Plan for Peace is honoured to have hosted Bassam Aramin and Rami Elhanan in a unique online conversation to explore how each of us can respond at this time of conflict and tragedy.
Bassam and Rami come from two sides of a bitter divide. Bassam is a Palestinian academic who spent seven years in an Israeli jail for his role in the Palestinian struggle. Rami is an Israeli graphic designer who served in the Israeli Army as a young man.
In 1997, Rami’s young daughter, Smadar, was killed by two Palestinian suicide bombers. In 2007, Bassam’s 10-year-old daughter, Abir, was killed by Israeli border police in front of her school.
Through this shared grief, the pair forged an unlikely friendship. They have devoted their lives to building peace between Palestinians and Israelis and are active in the Parents Circle-Family Forum - an organisation for bereaved Israelis and Palestinians.
We're deeply inspired by their mission to overcome hatred and reconcile, especially at this time of divisive polarisation. Join us for this much-needed discussion, moderated by Plan for Peace's CEO, Dr Madeleine Mosse and Head of Peacebuilding, Jo Berry.
