What house rules do I use for my D&D games?

Holy moly. This was meant to come out much sooner, but here it is nonetheless.
Are my house rules actually terrible? Let me know, I'd be genuinely interested if there's a flaw in my thinking with any of them. And let me know which house rules you use in the comments. Good artists steal good ideas.
Something I didn't include in the video, is that the inspiration pool rule limits the amount of inspiration it can hold, equal to the amount of players at the table. So if there are four players, they can get up to four points, etc.

Did not expect Risk of Rain gameplay! Great video. 10/10. I could probably be a dungeon master now.

Little 50/50 with the idea of the “Last Stand” and you heal on a bonus action. But that new “Fear” idea is bloody genius

I like the advanced fear. I love playing tanky fighters with a love of combat. Tho my luck is historically bad, I enjoy being put into odd situations, every one of those situations you mentioned sounds fun to me

Talks about DND, uses ROR2 gameplay in the background, AND DOS2 music? So glad the algorithm recommended your channel!

I too limit dark vision, I don't like how it mutes the horror and tension when you are in a deep dark dungeon.

I usually just make it so that its hard to make out details. Also, no one plays it like this, but in the book’s it supposed to play like night-vison goggles: dim light is bright, and darkness dim. Your also not supposed to see color, just shades of gray. I also personally add darkness that even darkvision can’t penetrate. It sounds cheap, but if you have seen actual night vision footage, if not a single shred of light makes it through the darkness, it’s the same inky void as it was before. So that means that there is darkness still in the deepest corners and cracks.

All these rules are pretty interesting and sound fun even if I may never use them in my games. Keep it up mate

Man, this was a surprisingly good watch! I’m interested to see where this channel goes. It’s pretty good work so far.

I'd love a part 2 and more D&D content when you get a new computer. Your channel is definitely going places. Love the Dark Souls music, too.

Thanks! I have many ideas for movie-talk, but D&D is tricky. Being more niche, these videos will probably never take off. (This was going to be a D&D channel originally, hence my name). But we'll see, maybe on the second channel, whenever I make it.

For fear, I like the idea of asking the players in session 0 what their character’s primary response to fear is: fight, flight, or shock (staying still). In every case they get disadvantage on rolls while in line of sight their source of fear (or earshot, if it works better for the situation). With shock, they lose their next action, and their movement becomes 0. (They can still take bonus actions and reactions: straight up paralyzation would be cruel.) With flight, they are forced to use there movement to get as far from the source of fear as possible (more intense than vanilla fear). Fight is the most interesting, as they are forced to get as close to the fear as possible and attack it (even if it’s inanimate). Yes, min-maxers will find a way to abuse this, and some responses are better than others. However, it gives another area for players to flesh out their characters, as their response to fear tells a lot about them. For many characters, I just feel the vanilla condition doesn’t really fit their personality.

That's a cool spin on it. Not sure if I'd have that in my group per se. I wanted the fear mechanic to cause characters to be irrational, since fear makes people who are usually calm and collected to be irrational. Plus rolling is fun, even when it's bad for the players.

Has the inspiration pool mechanic you described ever gone poorly with players sniping the usage from each other? It's a pretty good idea other than that, I feel.

No, not really. But then again, I only play with amicable people that I trust to play nice with each other. If this were to happen in one of my games, the problem would be with the group, not the house rule. That's my take.

For Health Potions I also allow the use as a bonus action. But also allow them to be used as an action for max HP heal of the potion.
