I just got a 2022 kawi 310 ultra. Man is it comfortable. I had a 300 rxtx. It is exactly as you said. It tracks bad in rough water and beats the rider up more then the kawi. The Kawi is just amazing for rough ocean and no glass water. It is very heavy and seems a tad bit slower on top. For this a plan a good tune and stage 1 job to make up the difference. Overall I love the kawi. It took a little to grow on me coming from a 300 but I am very pleased.

It's going to feel slower because it's got more draft.

Kawi: I’m the most comfortable but I’m the slowest Yamy: I’m the straightest and most maneuverable but you’re gonna feel everything SeaDoo: I’m the middle ground/child SeaDoo RXT/ST3 platform all the way with me💪🏼

Got a vx and an fx, both are smoother than my buddies Kawi in moderate and heavy river chop.

Yeah, but the Sea-Doo will catch a cross chop and eject the unsuspecting rider.

Don't know about "smoother" but they're definitely straighter.

😂😂😂 When you explain a what happened with st3 I was just reliving my bad experiences in rough water... But in saying that I found that slowing a little bit and trimming the nose down did help to keep. Constant speed and straight line without too many inputs... But definitely nearly went off the seat with mine 😂 we where crui9at 80kmh in smooth water and suddenly we got to rough but. Very rough water in half a second and the ski from straight nearly did a 90° turn 😂😂I shit my pants... Than trimmed nose down and set the cruiser @ 65kmh and it was a very pleasant ride
@watercraftjournal

The ST3 is great on flat water. Anything above 8" and it becomes an erratic, unpredictable mess.

No. The GTR shares the same hull as the GTI, and it's a very middle-of-the-road hull.

Hi Kevin! Quick question. As an all rounder all weather/water long distance pwc, is the new Yamaha FX ho with the stronger fiber hull better or is the new 2023 seadoo explorer pro? Also how important is the IDF system for a long distance trip?
@watercraftjournal
@watercraftjournal 2 года назад
IDF is only important if you regularly suck up grass, weeds and kelp into your pump (because you're an inattentive rider). I've only used it for demonstrative purposes because I don't suck stuff up into my pumps. CM-Tech has held up rather well over the years (after it's first year "teething" issues). Yamaha's return to SMC fiberglass is a good one, and paired with its FX hull shape makes it a FAR better hull for rough water riding.

@@watercraftjournal all things considered, if I’m wanting to pull small (100-140 pound) adults on skis, boards, and tubes, on saltwater; is the FX HO still what you recommend or is that too much weight to pull on non supercharged skis (I can’t find where weight limits for pulling are listed for any of the brands/models)….

Really helpful info- thanks! Currently researching for my first PWC purchase and the characteristic descriptions on each hull are very useful. For mostly bay riding with the possibility of a bit of open-water cruising, would it be fair to say that the Yamaha would be a better choice over the Sea Doo? I've also heard that Kawasaki isn't typically as reliable as Sea Doo/Yamaha- any truth to that in their current offerings?
@watercraftjournal
@watercraftjournal 3 года назад
Glad it was helpful! Thus far, Kawasaki's 310 is the supercharged runabout with the least amount of mechanical failures and factory recalls.
@Eleven10
@Eleven10 3 года назад
@@watercraftjournal Very interesting- so the Ultra would still be the way to go for a boosted ski? I'm still on the fence if I should go for a supercharged model or naturally aspirated. Do the Ultra 310's need a rebuild as often as the Sea-Doos typically? I would likely have one passenger and/or be towing a small raft most of the time so I'm thinking the extra power might be nice to have for the added weight.
@watercraftjournal
@watercraftjournal 3 года назад
Sea-Doo has the WORST service record of all supercharged PWC. Yamaha has the best service record for naturally-aspirated PWC. I strongly suggest leaning towards a naturally-aspirated Yamaha. -K

Do you have any comments on the early 2009-2012 fx sho hulls compared to the Kawasaki? I like the old hull for what I do a lot better than the newer hull but have never ridden a Kawasaki
@watercraftjournal
@watercraftjournal 2 года назад
The FX hulls rotate every 9 years. Prior to the 2019 redesign, the FX was far more of a drier, less sporty ride. The Kawasaki Ultra remains the superior rough water/open ocean hull.
