As someone who's spent all 18 years of their life living in Swansea, I've always complained that there's nothing to do here but seeing this reminds me that it's an amazing place for tourists
In the words of the immortal Dylan Thomas: "An ugly lovely town" - which I have called home for most of my life. This woman was dangerously close in making it sound like a cool place to be.
I live in Swansea and it's definitely got a charm about it. I lived in Sydney for a few years back in the early 90s and it's a fantastic place to live and work but I never found a beach that beats Rhossili. Good video.
Great video. I've lived in Swansea my whole life and didnt even know there was boat tours 🤦♂️ definitely something I'm going to check out in the summer.
My hometown, I live in Swansea & was born in Swansea. This video makes me proud of my city, we also have the largest indoor market in Wales which also had awards too & several visits from Prince Charles. Glad you enjoyed our city, makes us Swansea Jack's happy. 🏴❤️
Absolutely & utterly endearing! Your fabulous, sunny disposition makes you a perfect guide & your videos are always interesting & fun to watch. You are really appreciated & we look forward to having you back on our shores in the very near future. Stay safe 👍
Wow! The motorboat that you can see at 2minutes until 2mins 10secs in while watching the swing bridge open and close is mine. Thanks for my 10seconds of fame.
I was born in swansea and been here all my 24 years of life and having someone like yourself come in and appreciate the things of Swansea that most overlook was nice to see it appreciated :) even I didn't know about the boat! found your channel randomly and gave you a follow! if there's anything you wanna ask or want some tips with gimme a shout! :)
Hi Ash I’m a Christian living in South Wales and have recently discovered your videos and subscribed. I have also seen your previous channel and just wanted to say I think you are such an amazing lovely person. To have been through what you’ve been through and still be so trusting, positive and optimistic is beautiful. Well done you. I sincerely wish you all the best in the next few years. Take care😊💕😊
Great to see your enjoying your time here Ash. Hope you get a chance to get to Cefn Sidan beach and see the surrounding small harbour town of burry port. Not a great shopping experience but an amazing place with views to die for. If you would like history on the area be free to ask. Cefn sidan beach is located in Pembrey national park. And has a ⛷️ slope located in it. You can also hire bikes there it's a huge area you can even go horse riding there. Or just spend the day walking and enjoy the beach or walk through the forests there.
"... they filled the dock in then dug it all out again to make a Marina". There was another dock complex in Swansea they filled in and built on. They did the same in Cardiff, Newport, Briton Ferry and even little Porthcawl - it seems quite amazing how many of these assets they threw away.
They were no longer assets the size of metcantile shippping has grow & the old Victorian Docks could not Handle them also the old trades of Coal, Iron & Steel are no longer prominant theywere far too small for upgrades to Containerisation & to shallow!! The cost of upgrade far exceded the benifits the modern trade would have brought out of date & out of time better to find new & more rewarding uses aka leisure or refill & convert to realestate far more sensible !!
Wow! Ive been in Swansea for about 6 months and never been anywhere.. Your video really such an inspiration. I probably going tomorrow for river trip! Have a good day Ash!
Theres loads more things you can do , you got 2 bowling places with an arcade ,crazy golf on the windstreet, swimming ,trampoline park and an inflatable park, lazer tag theres loads more ,if theres anything you would like to know or see in swansea id love to help out :)
I BELIEVE Welsh is the oldest Language in Europe, Basque is not known to be connected to any Language in Europe. IT straddles the French & Spanish border .Should I say about Welsh the continous Language.
Many of the exhibits at Swansea Maritime and transport museum came from Cardif's Maritime and transport museum which was knocked down for the redevelopment of Cardiff Bay water front.
@@welshdude8025 If they had a smallish history of Cardiff museum I'd be interested in visiting but I quite like the Maritime Museum in Swansea and the coffee area is a comfortable place for a break. Perhaps Cardiff could house something in the old Docks Office - it would be about the right size and was mostly empty when I've wandered into it.
Having been to the old Swansea Maritime and Industrial Museum, the old Cardiff Maritime museum and thirdly the newish Swansea Maritime Museum - all three multiple times since the 90s - I can vouch there's not that much that came from the old Cardiff one to Swansea so there should still be some exhibits Cardiff can house...somewhere
As a Swansea Jack living on the other side of the world in Brunei, it was nice to see my home town again, but I was heartbroken to see the state of the 'Seamark' Pilot Cutter and the Lightship, stored at the Marina. I used to watch the Seamark in action, as a working vessel, very sad to see the way it is today. Thanks for the video and hope you enjoyed your stay.
The ship has been like that a number of years now brother. I too am born and bred Swansea. The council tends to do what typically support's their agenda via Westminster no doubt. Swansea residents need to be considered and consulted more on new development etc. It's our city after all. Best wishes
@@bunchofgrapesorafig It's the Welsh Government's responsibility, not Westminster's and not the Council's. They simply don't care, and as someone who lives on the Marina it is disgusting to see the state on those vessels, one of which went to Dunkirk to rescue our stranded troops.
@@ezioauditore3128 I beg to differ, because their all One in the same entity. Whatever name you call them, Council, Westminster or Welsh Government is irrelevant because the point is, is that on all and ever quarter, their irresponsible, do not represent the wishes and needs of the local residents, and go about like locusts, doing as though Wilt!!! Call them whatever name you like my friend, the funding doesn't come from the Magick money forest does it.
@@bunchofgrapesorafig *sigh* I never suggested anything about the nature of funding. You were making a point that was factually incorrect. It's the Welsh Government that is responsible. Your point about the ineptitude of all government is correct, though I actually think that had Westminster been in charge there is no way those ships would have been allowed to deteriorate. Why? Because the Welsh Government in Cardiff has little time for Swansea and our own local government thinks arenas and shopping centres are more important.
@@ezioauditore3128 my original point was not aimed at financial funding, hence the Magick money forest note, your putting words in my mouth according to your incorrect interpolation of things. Your unclear and inconcise logic has battled you to the point of using double speak, which leads us further away from my point originally. This has nothing to do with funding, or where it may come from in terms of monetary funds. Your comment contradicts itself. Maybe you'll lift the Vail of ovestanding, and see what I Really Meant before replying this time.
Did you have a Joe's ice-cream? If not, why not? The best ice-cream in history of man kind. Also, I'm a Swansea Jack!!!! (And my mother used to work for Joe's ice-cream in the 1960s so I may be a biased 😁)
@@rm5988r The only thing is that we do have a massive drug problem as in class A drugs in South Wales unfortunately I've have lost to friends many to count. R.I.P to all my jaks 💔🌹 try watching swansea love storey here on RU-vid xoxo
If you like museums. Cardiff story museum near st David’s arcade and the national Cardiff museum are an absolute must. Really interesting. Cardiff bay is absolutely beautiful too. Take a walk down the barrage especially on a nice day. Have a picnic on the grass. It’s a lovely day out. There’s also a some cute little shops down there which sell some unique things. Plus there’s the Wales millennium centre which is a beautiful theatre, techniquest a fun interactive experience museum for children and boat rides. Some go around areas and tell you about the history of the area, there’s one that goes from the city centre down the bay which leaves from Bute park (which I know you’re familiar with) plus there’s Senedd Cymru which is our Welsh assembly building.
5:10 that be a lie. the counselors did some backhand dealing to fill the doc through a family members business. they got caught out and Dug some of it back out the the entire area is sinking and no mater how much concrete they pour into it the sand and water table are still shifting.
Love taking my grandkids to the new museum but the exhibits are so in the dark I can’t enjoy them as I used to in there as it was before they renovated it sad
Enjoyed the ride with you but you need to update your background music ; it sounds like an old film where the record is slightly slow and out of sync; sorry !
