@@samu-chan if something acts as a trigger and upsets someone, it’s rarely the stimulus itself and rather the situation the person is in that the stimulus brings to the fore. In Halie’s case she’s gone through a recent breakup and has been having mental health struggles so reading something that recommends gaining strength from a partner is obviously going to be upsetting. It’s therefore not very helpful to say that it’s “a damn cookie” and “it’s not that deep”, in fact that just shows a total lack of empathy for her experiences and the emotions she’s experiencing as a result. In short her emotions come from a place that is much deeper than the damn cookie that triggered them. Often all people need is a positive alternative angle from which to view whatever has triggered negative feelings, a way to turn a negative into a positive, which is much more helpful than dismissing their feelings by minimising the trigger. Just because you view something as inconsequential doesn’t mean that it’s not upsetting to someone else who’s experiencing a mental health struggle that you’re not experiencing. Be kind.
