Put some sticks, mulch & cardboard in the boxes then the dirt and fertilizer. You need to fill them up with other stuff so u won't need about 100 bags of dirt - they are nice and big though. Happy late birthday
Tomato’s can be dangerous for your dogs. My parents dog ate there’s from the garden without them knowing and he was horribly sick. The vet said they can be deadly to dogs. Just be careful if you decide to plant them. I too am excited to start gardening. My husbands been putting in our new sprinkler system. We’re getting our sod this weekend and hope to plant a garden at the beginning of the season next year. We recently built our own home on an acre and had to wait to put in a yard because of the drought. I’m so excited to have a yard again! Happy Birthday and good luck with your gardening adventure!
ooo thank you for the info about that! I have already planted some tomatoes, so good to know! Fortunately they don't seem too interested in the plants! congrats on your new build! :)
Congratulations on starting your garden, how exciting!! If you do decide to add a third planting box, have you considered making it for cut flowers. I’m looking forward to seeing you grow as a gardener 😊
Hoka's have been worn by elite runners for a long time now. My family is full of marathoners and competitive runners and have sworn by Hoka's for over a decade. We're in the UK and the shoes are from France so I think we've had them over here for a lot longer. They've finally become "trendy", it's actually a strange feeling when I see someone casually wearing them. Definitely not known as an old person shoe :) Pippa Middleton put them on the map a few years ago as she's a runner too. Happy Belated!!🎉
Happy belated birthday , I think you do need some kind of liner for the boxes , the flowers I have around my house are geraniums they are very colorful and spread out so good I don't have a green thumb but those do great
Happy birthday 🎉 If you have space try putting that bird feeder over a patch of soil or a big planter. When the birds pick out seeds and some fall out you may have flowers grow. Just a thought 😊.
❤ HAPPY BIRTHDAY! Love the hats! 😅 I'm a hat gal too! Regarding weed barriers, I use broken down cardboard boxes then mulch on top! Cheaper than buying anything! And it's compostible
To fill the space in the bottom of your garden beds add cut tree branches and any other organic material that will break down over time like leaves. You could also use wood chips. It will save you money on buying soil.
If you have any yard debris like twigs etc put them at the bottom of your planter to help take up room. You won't really need the weed barrier for what you're doing (especially with a pebble base). I love this idea! It's the perfect little area for it -- good luck! We've been weeding/laying weed barrier down/and mulching our garden beds and I wish it was all grass so we could just mow. LOL It's been a lot of work but it pays off in the end! Good luck!
Thank you! The more tips the better! I ended up doing that in the boxes so we didnt have to get so much soil! I planted a few plants and thought they were all dying at first but I think I may be in the clear now! :)
You’re going to love growing your own veggies. Alyssa and Luke K put in some raised beds a couple years ago and added more this year. Alyssa loves gardening and little Calvin (who just turned 1️⃣) is loving it too! 😊
Abby my husband has always had a huge garden! I now since we got married have become a garden girl! Gloves, hand shovel, garden safe bug killer because they WILL eat your plants! We also dont do the weed barrier. Yes there are weeds.. BUT we have found its better without the barrier growing wise!
I think I can consider myself a garden girlie now, after a couple years of growing veggies in a couple garden beds.. we have a gopher problem, so I put a chicken wire type of liner, then I like to have filler at the bottom, like cardboard and tons of sticks so that its not too expensive to fill up with only soil. Then the soil/compost mixture. That's when I plant my veggies. 😊
Natalie Bennett on RU-vid has some advice and her mom on Instagram is super helpful too. Her mom responds to dms right away, when I have questions. Which is so sweet ans helpful!
Living through you right now. I also want a garden once we buy our house but have noooo idea what thats gonna be like lol. For the bird feeder what if you put it higher like in the dirt areas in the bed? Maybe would be more visible? Also for the pavers i like the ones w more shape would break it up more i think. Cant wait to see the progress
Happy Birthday 🎉 and skip the weed barrier most weeds are carried by air so the easiest to eliminate is to not have open space/soil. You can use cover crops, annuals, ground cover etc to prevent weeds would def head to a nursery not big box store and chat with their people as they will know what works best for you (bring pictures, know what kind of light you get etc) you'll do great and learn what works in your growing zone/backyard climate and what doesn't for you, for your lifestyle, for your sanity and what the critters don't steal! 🫶🏼😉 I'm down to herbs, pretty flowers, a Meyer lemon and a Chicago Hardy fig tree under netting, hot peppers because nothing eats those and ONLY tiny hybrid tomatoes as the giant heirlooms are just an opera of tragedy in my garden 😂
I don't mean to laugh at you, but I'm laughing at you! The amount of dirt you bought is a drop in the bucket!!!! Order a truck of dirt. If they can get in your yard, they will dump it. Otherwise, they dump it in your driveway and you will shovel till you think you are dying! You are so pretty, love watching you. Go get shovels for everyone of your relatives!yi
