This just scratches the surface. Many times they deny life saving treatments. I was in The hospital in Nov 2020 and I have paid 11 bills so far. I say so far, cuz im still receiving bills. 🙂

It's funny because I've been pondering about moving to the US (from Europe). I know I HAVE to do it at some point, I'd love to. But the more I hear about these things, the more I appreciate how lucky I am to be living in a Country that gives you free health care.

So cool to see how you have progressed from "perfect student" to today. With my own personal life I was also raised to go into a high-paying office job but have entered my "fuck-it" era, seeing this video reminded me of the idea that people (especially women) who didn't act out in their teens end up doing so in their 20's when the stakes are higher.

So excited to see where your unemployment journey leads you! I also work in tech in the Bay Area and the grind is so real. I quit a job that I hated in Feb 2020 and took about 5 weeks off. I hiked alone every day, journaled, read so many books, spent time with friends and family, etc. I slowed down for the first time and it was exactly what I needed. I was initially planning on taking 4-6 months off, but a great opportunity dropped in my lap. As a fellow overachiever who has experienced burnout one too many times, I love this for you. Also your hair is f*cking rad ❤️

I quit my job in Dec and it was the best thing I could’ve done. I’ve been living at home so my expenses are that much compared to most people. But I was able to save up for an emergency fund. Now I work part time and learning on the side (+ doing apprenticeships) to transition into another career. I’ve already decided that I don’t want to go back to a very strict company. The place I’m doing my apprenticeship at is very cool, the people are nice and it’s very laid back. And it’s all online and this is exactly what what I want for myself lol. So, I’m glad I took the time to figure out what I want.

I’ve been in my unemployment era since March/April, but I start a new job next week. Honestly I’m excited to have a job again. It’s been fun learning Spanish, having time to hike, read, and see friends and family more. But after a while, it gets boring, lonely, and gives me anxiety when everyone is busy working and there is the constant stress in my mind that the savings fund is running out.

Comrad here! I just love the hair and the message of this video. I've been in a transitional period of my life since right before the pandemic hit and the freedom to do what I want when I want has been so soothing. So much so that the thought of going back to a full time job induces panic in me. This break has put so much into perspective and has actually led me down a completely different path professionally. I'm going back to school soon and seeing where that takes me but I don't have any specific plans. Let life guide you where you need to be! Sending my love Kath 💓

You are such a big inspiration for me! I have also been a chronic overachiever my entire life and I am now trying to find a new balance where I can still do good in my studies but stop obsessing over it so much that I ruin the whole experience of the degree and also my life outside of my studies. It is sometimes hard to shed old habits but I have felt so much better since I recently decided to reduce my study load to make more time for reflection and introspection.

Comrade! You absolutely spoke to me when you discussed how career life makes you compartmentalize all those small chores (e.g., the dirty countertop you mentioned) that crop up over time. They then live on your mental whiteboard far longer than they should. Having them there weighs you down, and is not healthy. Not only does it live in your mind, but you also have to live with it (seeing it every time you walk by, noticing it during use, etc.) while waiting until it’s the scheduled time to address it. There is satisfaction in addressing those chores, and peace in having them addressed. I wish you the best!

Just want to pop in and say: don’t worry about your future employment prospects. I work freelance in the television industry, which means I am unemployed every 5 months or so. Initially, this was terrifying. But over the years, I’ve always found a way to stay above water, to find a new job. Just harass everyone you know and tell them you’re looking for work, and they’ll help you out. And more to the point: you’re an intelligent person, which can’t be underestimated; you’ll be competing against loads of people without your smarts, creativity and experience- which yes, is your privilege, but it’s the truth. you’ll be just fine- even if your first job back isn’t your ideal job, you won’t be out on the streets or eat into your savings. Trust me.

Comrade, here ;) Congrats on taking a decision that is most definitely not an easy one, in a society that does make us want to think Work is Everything. Admittedly, I don't intend on quitting my job but I do find extremely inspiring the idea of prioritising your time and thinking of it as your own luxury (because of course it is). I think I - or we collectively? - never really thought about it that deeply until the Pandemic happened and we were under lockdowns and curfews and whatnot and a shift happened... Two years+ after and I've changed a bit the way I work. I still do meet my deadlines and all but I've stopped taking on tasks that I don't *have* to do, whereas before if I knew the person actually in charge didn't do their part and a project risked falling through (nothing life-threatening or anything like that, at that!) I'd do the task for them. Now I've decided that if they're not that interested in their own project, it's their responsibility. I do my part, I do it well, but that's it. And it does make a difference... I also work from home twice a week and my schedule is so much more relaxed. All in all, I'm not planning on quitting anytime soon - not just due to financial reasons but also because - luckily - I enjoy my work and I work in a safe and sane environment - but all the same, I've decides to prioritise my 'personal time' and I'm feeling much better as a result :)

I quit my toxic job in January 2020 when job prospects looked promising, then in March 2020 the pandemic and lockdowns happened and that threw that all out the window 🫠 I was unemployed for nine months total, it was roughhhhhhh af but I don’t regret it because I had to quit my job for my sanity which is way more important. As you said, there is never really an ideal time to quit, but it will all work out eventually (but not without struggle tho). While it was tough, Im so proud of myself for quitting a job that was detrimental to my well being, and have zero regrets! ♥️

comrade here! i've been in my unemployment era since i quit my job back in june of 2021, and thankfully i haven't had to worry about things like health insurance and budgeting to pay rent since i still live at home under my parent's health insurance. in this time i've gotten some essential things done like study for and get my GED, get my learner's permit and am starting to learn to drive (despite almost being 21, thanks to driving anxiety, but driving is the only option in the car dependent hell that is the US), and being the most consistent i've ever been in my pursuit of self-studying a foreign language. but after that, and after the pandemic in general, i'm just so ready to kick start my life. i have dual citizenship with the US (where i live) and the EU due to my parents and i'm really itching to be in my ✨starting the next chapter of my life in europe✨ era so i need to get a job and start saving up to have a some sort of cushion for that move and i'm not scrambling to make ends meet as soon as i get there. thank you for sharing your experience, kath!! it's been very valuable to me 💗

So I just started part time work again in May delivery driving. I really don’t want to go back to the “hustle” life and would rather chill & have freedom over my time, even if that means not living luxuriously. I don't understand the need to set an alarm if you don't have anything to get to in the morning. Why set an alarm for 8-9 hours? Why not just wake up naturally? One of my ambitions in life is to never have to set an alarm. I don't have to for my work. I will achieve this goal when I manage to start homeschooling my child and don't have to get him to school by a certain time.

Comrade here! I am exiting my unemployment era in more ways than one and I can't even begin to describe all the ways it allowed me to rethink so many things I took for granted. My unemployment wasn't willing, but it's much easier for me to see now all of the ways that it was a fundamental part of the growth that was happening in my life during this time frame. And not growth in a capitalist sense of things I can measure but more in all of the subtle ways in which my life needed to shift. Love your videos and your perspective and will definitely be subscribing to the Patreon once my unemployment era fully comes to a close.

Dude, good for you and enjoy your unemployment. I too would be a little worried about trying to find a job in what sounds like the beginnings of a recession, but I currently HAVE a job and think about what it might be like to have to look for a job in 6 or 8 months should something happen so I don't know that being employed right now would create more peace of mind. Glad you figured out the obama care healthcare situation because I was going to suggest looking into it because I was able to get my mom on a Kaiser plan through Covered California after my dad was laid off and it wasn't nearly as expensive as COBRA.

Comrade here! Wowza this was info packed! You’ve fine tuned some areas I still struggle and I totally appreciate hearing your experience. Side note re: YNAB - it is Definitely worth it to get thru the learning curve. It reduces my stress SO Much. I’ve been consistent with it since 2017 🙌

i am like this exact same situation. I left my comfortable corperate job because it had burned me out and left me a husk of the person i used to be.. but like, now everything is inflated and its scary.. but i like not having a job.. but i still need one :/

This - I lost my job in late October. I had been applying for positions because I was getting bad vibes at my old job. In September/early October, I was getting requests for several interviews a week. I was feeling great about my job prospects if anything happened! Then, it happened and I haven't gotten a single interview. I think November and December are really bad times of the year for job hunting.

Unfortunately I lost a couple of friends bc they thought I was going nuts bc I didn't have a job, even though I was completely fine. I think they were jealous that I wasn't shackled to a company. At my job now I try to keep the shackles off by setting boundaries. I say no to overtime and volunteer work.

I feel the same way. 1.5 years ago was my last time in the traditional workforce and I feel like all of my high achiever friends left either because they judged me or they just didn't relate to me anymore and my journey to dismantle the constant need to be working and achieving something.

Comrade here. That OHIO thing called me out! I constantly have a pile of worn-but-not-dirty clothes in my bedroom. The migrate from the bed to the floor to the bed to the floor in a never-ending loop, slowly growing, until I deal with them all at once every few days. It is a very annoying habit of mine -- as it, it annoys me!!
