For me, the show resonate so well with myself cringe as that might be, especially Nagara and the whole thing about school. Escapism, regrets and probably hopelessness that I may have always been put aside but did affect me, looking at how Nagara graduated or even the simple sight of him turning around and walk forwards pierce my heart... And no it's not simping, it's just I'm envying people who can walk around with calm mind despite knowing their way ahead will be filled with struggle and difficulties.
I don't think that's cringe, I think the story successfully got across what it was trying to to you. And I think your take away of envying people with a calm mind is a pretty powerful one. When art can inspire someone to feel something that deeply I would never consider it cringe
@@MikeyGAnime not the anime, it's how some people will find me or those who over~relate or overreact on a mere anime as cringe, not that it's worth concerning and sorry bout my English
@@nyu1425 I understand, I wouldn't worry about what people think about you. I think the creator of the show would be happy if he heard how it effected you
Sonny boy is an anime that helped me to go through depression. And Monkey baseball is one of the ep that helped me the most. For me Sonny boy talk about how much it's "ok" to be insinificant, and that all life matter. So for me, the monkey baseball is about the equality of passions. Being good in something or not don't have to restrain you to enjoy this. Thanks, talk about this anime means a lot to me
I just finished this show today. When I first watched the monkey baseball episode, i think I replayed that episode 5 times over before going to the next episode. Could be one of the best episodes of anything I’ve ever watched. Amazing.
Ya, monkey baseball blew me away when it was released. I was surprised to see the mixed reactions to the episode. If I remember correctly, a lot of people dropped it after this episode or just didn't like it.
Sonny Boy is always in the corner of my mind even a year after I watched it. I'm glad this video came into my feed. I think what you say at 5:00 is a really great summary of not just episode 4 but the show itself. Very well said
SB is positively amazing, though unlike you I was hooked in the first episode easily. The initial hurdle instead was the synopsis. Isekai and superpower are awful genres imo, but this show ended up being one of my favourites of all time, an example of why you should sometimes go outside your comfort zone. Cool vid
Thanks! and yea, i like the first couple episodes aswell i just think the bigger picture is needed for a show like sonny boy. I'm Glad you liked the video, hope you stick around
I remember watching the first episode as it aired and I instantly fell in love. I don’t know what it was but I could just tell this show was gonna be different. And after finishing it, it became one of my favorite animes. Funnily enough, the monkey baseball episode was my least favorite out of the series. But I blame that on me because I wasn’t paying my full attention to it. The episode was mostly dialog and I felt some parts of it were slow and hard to keep up with if you miss a detail. Don’t get me wrong though, dialog is one of my favorite aspects of anime and all media alike. But this episode kinda fell past my radar. So I’m glad I got recommended a video about this episode. I always wanted to rewatch the show and try to fully understand this episode (and probably still will do that). But thank you for making me understand a little bit more about what the whole “monkey baseball” was about. Great video👍
I think shows can hook people at different points. I wasn't trying to insinuate that sonny boy wasn't worth watching until episode 4. My point is that where you get hooked is sometimes irrelevant if the story is meant to be viewed as a whole. I honestly believe Sonny Boy puts a lot of stock in its story's completion and it would be sad to not have people experience that just because of an arbitrary three episode rule. Talking about not being hooked right away was only my personal experience even though I appreciate the beginning of the show a lot more now
Maybe an unpopular opinion, but 7 Seeds is a good example of an exception to the 3 Episode Rule". I started watching it because I had finished everything that I wanted to watch, and it is so confusing and full of continuity errors for the first 5-6 episodes. After that, however, they're able to thin the focus to smoothly follow specific groups to show how they effect each other and the plot. Don't get me wrong, it's not the best show in any way, but I actually really liked the second season and how they used it to explain the situation and improve character development.
The show that taught me this was made in abyss…I watched the first 3 episodes and didn’t connect with the show at all…strangely enough…the lack of the “hook” I was looking for made me overlook all the things the show had done well to that point (music, the art, the lack of spoon feeding through too much exposition and the symbolism and foreshadowing packed into each episode )and made me think it wasn’t worth the watch….a month later …I accidentally clicked on a later episode and saw the characters in an interesting location and that peaked my curiosity enough for me to say …”let me thug it out and see what it’s all about”…to this day one of the best decisions I’ve ever made and I found an absolutely amazing show…one of the greatest anime I have ever seen and will probably ever see…I then started to realise all the little details I had overlooked in search for a quick fix…from that day, my rule has been….if I start a show…I have to finish it…regardless of my first impression…I am only allowed to formulate a full opinion of it once I’ve watched it fully and although this has made me slightly picky in terms of what I watch…I have finished every show/anime I’ve started in the past 3/4 years and I can honestly say I don’t regret it…there were some bad anime bundled in there that I had to sit through…but compared to the abundance of good/great anime I’ve now been exposed to thanks to this new approach…I’m fine with finding a few lumps of dirt among ingots of gold
If I followed the 3 episode rule, I would not have watched Re:Zero or Evangelion. Both are among my favorites, and I did not enjoy either until I finished them (For EVA tha og series, for Re:Zero S2P2)
@@MikeyGAnime yamabiko I did a school project on him and I would love to see other views of him particularly the episode with his background and war and the girl he loved
she never "died" as we know it, because as Raj explained before, physical death as we know it does not exist in This World. I interpret her death as she's just falling into nothingness, forever, practically rendering her "dead".
her death was meaningless and that was the whole point. just as she falls off that cliff god is saying something like "aren't sudden incidents like this beautiful?" if i remember correctly and that was just it. in the real world death has no meaning. people just die at any random point and the people left have to deal with it
Monkey Baseball is a fantastic episode, but I misunderstood it heavily when the show was airing weekly. When shows come out one episode a week, you're vying for the next part of the story, and when something that doesn't fit what that should be in your mind comes along, it pisses you off, and you kind of detach. I rewatched Sonny Boy a while ago, and when going through the whole series I definitely think Monkey Baseball is a strong contender for the best episode. Really shows how watching a show in different ways can elicit different feelings from the viewer, and you're more understanding of less plot-driven episodes when you don't have to wait for the episode after it.
callinf fate zero shit is like denying one of the best anime the characters are very well written in fate and the story had also depth . one of the best antagonist in anime after Griffith and johan is kotomine . u can say its not ur genre but u cant say its shit without watching the series
The name makes no sense to me, the animation make me laugh at times, and the ending is still vague to me. The only thing that confuses me more than those things is how this show is one of my top 10 favorite anime of all time along with Dr. Stone and Love is War S3.
the name Sonny Boy is a play on words that you could interpret as "old young" as "sonny" is something old people call young boys, and "boy", well, meaning boy. since time doesn't pass in the alternate world they are in, they are considered old young people. The ending is interesting. it displays a very nihilistic viewpoint from nagara that life is meaningless and nothing i do matters, but goes a step further into what could be considered optimistic nihilism or existential nihilism, that basically means life is meaningless, but thats okay, because it doesn't need to have meaning, as i am alive. this is shown at the end with nagara not changing in the grand scheme of things, as he didnt keep his promise to nozomi, yet he walks away with a smile, suggesting hes okay with it.
