Don't worry... even though Holland is NOT just the two north and south holland provinces combined...it was one of the old names for the entire country... then again not all fellow dutchies care to study our history careful enough to know the difference ;p

No, I don't live in "Holland" but I still call my country Holland and so do all of my friends and family and no one complains about it.

Well technically Alkmaar lies in the province (Noord-)Holland in the country The Netherlands, so he has a defensible case, hahaha. But as these videos go we usually talk about countries, not provinces so... But Holland has become the trademark name for The Netherlands and even the Dutch Bureau of Tourism uses Holland (and not The Netherlands) for it's promotional tours in other countries . And there is a bit of hypocrisy is play too, we blast our foreign friends for saying Holland but in the meantime we love to use the label to promote things like Heel Holland Bakt, Ik hou van Holland, Holland's Got Talent, The Voice of Holland and so on... :-)

Yep!

No problem. English is taught in school from a very young age nowadays. Most English spoken movies and tv series are subtitled and not dubbed in Dutch as well. So a lot of Dutchies are quite proficient in English. And they are willing to help you out as well.

Little addition: if you show you took some time and effort to learn some Dutch, they will love you forever ;)

+bergweg You can't have a country without its weather! Why do you think the Italians and Spanish are so laidback, but the Germans and English are so...well..."German?" And "English." Insert your own "more proper and ordered" euphemism for uptight here.

+bergweg Well obviously the Dutch are the excpetion to my aforementioned rule, but they have all been literally everywhere, so the weather doesn't affect their societal culture.
