Two Toes you have the best gold prospecting videos on the internet. You film good, You do not have wind noise overpowering the audio. We do not have to watch you dig and shovel a lot. We do not have to watch basic panning . You show what you get very clearly. And your explanations as to why you are digging where you are at are excellent. Although I have been messing around with prospecting for decades I have learned more about sniping, and reading river ground and metal detecting in the last couple of days than I ever had. Thanks John R.

Come upon your video on my home page of youtube. Great video! Your video peaked my interest. Don't suppose you ever worked for Gold in Nebraska? When I was 10 yrs old my Father was Stationed at Elmendorf Airforce Base just outside Anchorage Alaska in 1978. Can you believe we were in Gold Central and never done any Panning for gold. Many times all over Alaska the first thing I would do is stick my hand in the, "Mud Flat", hold it up to my face and just see it Glitter. the specks were so small I could not find a way for me to isolate the fine flake then about 20 years later I watched a program on the Education Channel that told the story of a teacher that would set up shop right on the Mud flats over summer break back in Alaska. She was dredging with a hose into a angle box that had 4 diff screens then one or two felt strips at the end. The only other thing she would was ride her 3 wheeler down the flats looking for large logs next to streams that would empty into the ocean. What she described looking for never made sense to me: she was looking for a grey color Sandy/mud material and fill her buckets with this material. Went back and at the end of the day after packing up and returning to Camp would pan that material. turned out she would get many times more gold from the grey material than she got from dredging all day with her other set up. She would make enough to buy a car & after a few seasons she paid off the last half of her Home loan.

Gary, do you have any thoughts on where a dredge might have lost gold? I wonder about tailings piles if coarse rocks might be kicked out early with clumps and if the bottom maybe 6-8 inches of riverbed near bedrock is almost un-recoverable by a large dredge...and maybe uneven depths and shoreline hard to maneuver area also caused recovery problems.
@TwoToes
@TwoToes 4 года назад
They did not lose much threw the dredge. They were set up to catch all the fine gold. When they got to bedrock, I'm sure they bounced over quite a bit of gold. The bedrock is 40 t0 50 feet down in that area. In the early 70's I did some dredging right next to the fish ladder in Oroville, where the bedrock is only 8-12 feet deep. I found some nice pieces, around 1/4 ounce.

i hadn't seen any mention of it, but did the spillway blowout have any effect on that area?...would a metal detector be any use there?...considering the number of dams on rivers in the gold country, if this is a drought year, and water levels are going to be low, would areas around the lake/river confluence be a good choice to prospect?...anyway, just curious...thanks...
@TwoToes
@TwoToes 4 года назад
The spillway just washed away the hillside. All it did way put a lot of dirt and rocks into the river - no gold. Lake Oroville is a state park, they allow no prospecting at all.
@haroldtakahashi8875
@haroldtakahashi8875 4 года назад
@@TwoToes ...i was thinking, perhaps, that the blowout acted like hydraulic mining, from aerial views, looking like a lot of new bedrock was exposed, and washed any material downstream, away from the state park boundaries...from map views, it appears that those boundaries extend quite a ways down, but eventually end...so, would gold travel that far?...again, just curious...
