What I'm Ordering from Hobonichi for 2022 and How I'm going to Use it!

I like the Cousin, the month grid is my future log, the week pages are for work, and the day pages i use for journalling, note taking, memory keeping. however I can see from how you are using it that the day free is much more practical for your needs. I ithink a day free that had 365/6 pages instead of 171 would be even more brilliant. maybe they will do that one day too

I like to keep it fairly simple. I’ve decided to order a day free. I really use the monthly section to show my appointments. I like to see the whole month. I like the weekly 2 page for more detail information, quotes, some stickers. I think the cousin is good for bullet journalling, lists, information on different subjects, and art journaling, etc. I like the a6 size. It’s a good portable journal. I didn’t use my past cousin and a6 books because I had another planner and never got around to them so I’ll eventually just use those books for bullet journaling, other subject information, etc. I have lots of stickers I haven’t used but I don’t want to make myself crazy. I’ll just use them as I please to add some color and fun. I like the blank journals. I think I’ll eventually use them for different subjects. The day free is kind of expensive. That’s probably why I never ordered it before because I can find a monthly weekly planner for about $20. But the day free does appeal to me. A monthly 2 page and weekly 2 page works well for me. I fell into and bought into a few pretty hobonichi covers and book sets. But I really don’t need new covers every year unless there is one that is absolutely irresistible. The weeks is a great planner for a purse. I just think we have to know what works for our own process.

The Cousin is actually so much smaller than so many popular planners--like the Erin Condren and others like that. And it has Monthly, Weekly, Daily in so much less space than any of those big spiral bound ones. I totally agree that everyone should do what works for them, but the Cousin has been my go-to for years now. I love it so much because of how little space it takes up.

I got the Cousin because it was included with a cover I wanted for my Stalogy so I gave it a try. It was the first time that I abandoned a planner. There was something about the structure of the large daily page that hindered my planning and daily creativity. I have decided to get a Weeks for health tracking just like you, Robyn.

Yes! This is the exact reason I have been drawn to the weeks. Accountability with my health. I debated on the cousin, but I've decided against it. I think all I need is a week's and a bullet journal. I really want to keep it simple! Thanks for the video!

I’m a rings girl all the way. I create my own inserts that work for me. But I love planner flips with cousins, stalogy…..etc.

I first used a weeks mega, it was a little too much for me with decorating and plus all the extra pages, so I tried a regular weeks and it’s “bae”. Lol. This year my friend influenced me to get an A6 avec. I loved the size and I actually did use it but some pages weren’t filled. Somedays were and others bare. I like it. I am now just going to use a regular weeks as my EDC, cousin dayfree for bible studies along with a notebook, and my a6 dayfree for memory keeping for my daughter. This year I did also add a full year cousin for her first year of life. I just don’t like how big it’s gotten so I won’t use a full year again.

Great video robin! I’ve made my Hobonichi order already! I got the cousin, the techo, two weeks, two plain notebooks, two day frees, pencil boards and two clear weeks covers and the memo books the Hobonichi papers not the skinny ones that go with the techos. I love using different books for different purposes and I love the freebies that Hobonichi gives out every year;)

I ordered my cousin I missed it. I skipped last year and I use it for work so I use the weekly and daily more. The monthly helps me with team days offs or certain offices days off since they are global. I got the day free this year and didn’t work for me. Hope you have better luck. I did get the weeks. The mega was helpful the last couple of years for work. My job has changed so I don’t need the mega notes for customer meetings anymore.

Robin have you tried using the daily pages in the cousin as daily tasks/ to do lists?

Do not hold your head in shame, we are all just trying to figure it out! I just began my planner (decorative at that!) journey in 2021, and let me tell you my name may as well be Alice because I have fell way down the rabbit hole! I’ve got planners and stickers for days as I search for planner peace! Here’s to a more efficient planner life in 2022!

Thank you! Love it as usual. In the one word a day spreads, what do you typically put in the weekly side bar column if you don’t mind me asking? This really intrigues me because it lets me participate in hobonichi fever which is just a special time yet it is a perfect easy creative outlet that I can really enjoy instead of stressing about the cousin. I love love love it. I already track the weather in my vertical sticker diary but I think I’d rather do a sticker day on that for next year to use up some of the massive amount of unused character stickers I own and track the weather in a day free like this. So brilliant.

That's funny I had the same planner journey. The cousin is amazing but I just don't use it. I'm getting the day free a5 too. I'm thinking I need those monthly sticker kits though

I'm very confused why you would buy that planner if you don't have a daily schedule that is full of meetings/appointments.

I didnt use my cousin at all. I tried and it just didn’t. I like the weeks because its so easy to find kits. I never use the habit tracker either lol. And im really liking the A6 i dont mind if i skip a day i just go back and add stickers. Im getting a weeks and an a6 for 2022. And an a6 notebook.

I’m so with you about when going to bed. I used to think, oh, I will journal before bed, nope! When I go to bed I’m done! 💤

Covering unused pages with vellum is a great idea. May I ask where you get the vellum and how you size it and attach it so neatly? I am new to decorating these books; I usually just write in them.

I'm still torn with what actual book I want to order with the group order I'm placing for my family and friends. Because, unlike you I struggle using the weekly spread now with unemployment. I've turned them into Weeks like spreads for now and I love using them like that. BUT at the same time I know that Weeks itself is... Weeks is too small for me. Weird. I tried it one year and just fell out of it, because... handwriting too big to even write down what I ate (as health planning). And I understand the daily page struggle, but I have the opposite. I want to use and collage sometimes and then journal into what ever I'm feeling or write quotes. And that can take up pages and pages. I've been debating with... Day-Free and Notebook for next year. Because it's just... so nice to at least have some semblance of calendar time with the monthlies that I use to track bills and subscriptions. The notebook would end up being the actual daily pages. Maybe doing the weeklies in horizontal setup to the Day-Free pages and the more uh... "Safe-for-Work" banter and journaling once a week. :D

Love the idea of placing vellum on pages you don’t use. Do you just put it down with a tape/glue runner? I started using a Day Free this year, as well, and find it much less intimidating than than the Cousin. Love the ability to use stickers for monthly page setups and freedom to do whatever I want with all the blank pages. ❣️
