I have a spinal cord injury and my husband's life change drastically for many years. The embarrassment and shame of having no control over my legs at times and having to be put onto the toilet was humiliating. The fear my legs would stay in that weaken state was overwhelmingly terrifying for me. But in time, slowly, it has gotten better in so many ways since then. Of course not in every way, but it take time. The journey is so long, forward and backwards, ups and downs. But in time you can get stronger or weaker, it all depends on what you choose to do. But you must move you body to get stronger, a week in bed can be devastating for people like us. There will be setbacks, heartbreaks, devastions, guilt, the guilt is so great for the individuals who's life has changed in such a way, we know this has effected the dynamics of the whole family, and it has now changed because of what happened to us. Everything is now different. But my husband always told me, through better or worse. Remembering your vows may help you get through this so much earlier. And I will tell you, as time goes on she'll get better a little more each year. She may never get her full "real self" (she call it) back, but you will settle into a new normal. Just give it time. Its a journey, not the one you planned, but to survive this you must find the times of joy and embrace those moments. I wish you all the blessings and know you are not alone out there. It just feels that way, finding others out there will help you. Take care.

Only someone who is a full-time caregiver can understand what you actually give up. You are literally giving your life to care for someone you love. That person isn't the person you fell in love with, they change and become someone else. You change and become colder just doing the day to day.

I truly believe that there is a reason for everything that happens in our lives. You might not see it now but you will someday. Past memories will always be cherished but they are the past. You and your family are making new cherished memories everyday! Just love you're family and it will come back to you two fold.

i find myself yearning for old times, looking at old pictures, smiling and realizing we can't experience that again.

What happen to this family, looks like they are not posting anymore. Well, just in case, left this message just in case they see this! Where is your "super thanks" button for the public to leave donations!
