If you're new to my channel and videos, hi! I'm Evan Edinger, and I make weekly "comedy" videos every Sunday evening. As an American living in London I love noticing the funny differences between the cultures and one of my most popular video series is my British VS American one. I'm also known for making terrible puns so sorry in advance. Hope to see you around, and I'll see you next Sunday! :)

And Eritrea's claim is a bit harder for them to uphold, but America? They can and will force companies that want to do business with them to cooperate with them on basically telling on their citizens. If a bank wants to do business with Americans, or in America, they have to disclose all income of their American account holders to the IRS, or face huge fines and possibly loose the right to operate. Having gone through the process of becoming a German citizen almost 7 years ago, I‘ve been enjoying your journey vicariously so very much. The major difference is that I did have to renounce my American citizenship because Germany accepts dual citizenship only in exceptional cases. But I had no qualms about that. I was making a commitment to this country and to Europe (take that, Brexiteers!). I am officially a pariah for most Americans. You at least still have the American citizenship, but should you decide to renounce it, your name will appear on the Treasury Department‘s Wall of Shame! I took it as a badge of honor.
@AL5520

@@AL5520 I didn‘t have any problems, either. I didn‘t have to take the language test because the official handling my file said I spoke better German than many Germans, and since I was able to present a number of certificates from my 3 1/2 years of law study in Germany, I didn‘t have to take the citizenship test. Easy-peasy..
@nowexit
@nowexit 3 года назад
You haven't made any 'commitment' to the continent of Europe at all, what are you talking about? If that had been a question in the German citizen test you would have failed! FFS if you're going to live in the EU then at least make some basic effort learning the terra firma you live on and the collective group of countries you belong to, there's a massif difference and you should not be confusing either of them at this point.
@michaelmedlinger6399
@michaelmedlinger6399 3 года назад
@@nowexit No, I would not have failed my test. I am well aware that the EU and the continent of Europe are not identical. I was speaking here of my personal and emotional commitment to a vision of Europe that includes, but is not limited to, the EU and the duties and responsibilities of that political organisation that I accepted by becoming its citizen. When I say „Europe“, I am referring to the continent and its broad diversity of cultures, attitudes, traditions, history, and values. If I am referring to the EU, I say EU, not Europe. Perhaps my little jab at Brexiteers misled you. I was thinking at the time of the attitude they (and many other Brits) seem to hold that Great Britain is somehow not a part of the European continent. Whether a part of the EU (or EFTA) or not, Great Britain is in Europe.
@nowexit
@nowexit 3 года назад
@@michaelmedlinger6399 : You talk clear and obvious nonsense, what commitment would you have towards the landmass of the European continent, that maybe you could convince Russia to be a run by Brussels?? and why do you not have a commitment to the South and North American continent??. " *_I was making a commitment to this country and to Europe (take that, Brexiteers!)_* " - Why would 'Brexiteers' care about your commitment to the European continent?????? Now you just sound even worse, you absolutely meant to say the EU but instead said Europe, its a thing many Americans get confused about but you should know better by now, like the rest of the population of the Europe. You're right, the UK is in Europe never has the UK said otherwise, why would any country deny their geographic location, what would be the point? What continent does the UK think it should be apart of? It is true that the UK was never really convinced about the EU, one foot in and one foot out but again that is/was an EU thing not a continent thing so I'm wondering if you are confusing the EU with Europe again? " *_EU and the continent of Europe are not identical_* " !!!!!!! Well obviously not, one is 1 of 7 large landmasses of the planet, the other is a collection of countries, so yes not identical by any means (did you mean to use the word "identical"?) I voted to remain FYI but as I believe in democracy, being from the country that wrote the book on its modern sequel, I respected the outcome and as time passed I, like so many others, feel the 'divorce' was ultimately for the best and since the vote it is clear the EU will feel the sting of divorce a few more times so you better stop with your commitment to the continent of Europe and focus on your commitment to the EU, know what I mean!
