KING OF SCARS AND RULE OF WOLVES SPOILER WARNING I have many things to say haha I personally felt that David's death was very unnecessary (or maybe I'm just salty lol). And the fact that he died in his wedding clothes? That was depressing! I think it would've been more interesting if he was gruesomely injured in the war rather than killed-it would've been interesting if Nikolai's top engineer, someone he's very reliant on for the war efforts, became immobilized/had his hands paralyzed or otherwise became less capable of doing his job. I would've liked to see Genya support him through it, like how he supported her through getting her scars and dealing with the king after the Little Palace was attacked by the Darkling. (I'm talking about when Nikolai basically kicked his parents out and threatened to charge the king with rape, and Genya had to admit that she was behind the poison). It would've been awesome to see him use his creative ingenuity to still work and help the cast at war. Especially if he entered a state of depression because of his injury! It would be interesting to see him and Genya work him out of that. Here are some other questions/thoughts I had about this duology and the grishaverse! Since Yuri and the Darkling were bound, did Yuri feel the Darkling's pain when his heart was pierced? Or were they separated? I think the idea of resurrection and a possible encounter with the saints should've been hinted at more in King of Scars. It felt weird and unplanned. I didn't hate it though! One thing I loved about the Shadow and Bone series was the foreshadowing of Mal's power. It was amazing writing!! I'm kind of disappointed that the foreshadowing in these books didn't exist to that degree. Why did the Darkling not really experience consequences for the constant use of merzost? It supposedly drains him, but Alina used merzost, was severely weakened (her hair turned white) and lost her power in the end. Is it because he has more experience with merzost? Is it because of his Morozova bloodline? Or is it because he's an old and powerful grisha that supposedly knows more about power than Alina could even guess at? I think Zoya swooping in as a dragon and stopping the war was very deus-ex-machina-esque. I still liked it though! I personally liked the cameos; how we got to see each beloved character one last time before finishing off the Grishaverse. Hanne accidentally Rasmus through Grisha power makes sense! I like that Leigh made Hanne a transgender male. It was properly hinted at. Yay good representation! I wish I knew his knew chosen name so I didn't have to call them "Hanne." I think it would've made more sense if Nina's power had been used to stop blight and possibly renew the Fold. The blight and the Fold have both been compared to death: which is what Nina's power deals in. I think it would've made her role in these books make more sense and it would've connected these two books back to the main plot of shadow and bone. The Obisbaya didn't make sense to me, and I don't think it was properly hinted at. So how exactly did the Darkling get his powers back? It wasn't explained, even when we got his point of view. Why does him getting the blood of Alina and Mal restore his power? It kind of felt like Nina got over Matthias too fast-but maybe I'm just being too nitpicky haha. I think Nina and Hanne moved very fast in their relationship, especially when "Mila Janderstat" was announced to be "Prince Rasmus" bride. Where did Joran end up? Did they ever tell him that the real Prince Rasmus was dead? I'm sure he suspected something. I thought it was brilliant how he ended up to be the one that killed Matthias, yet he was also the one questioning his faith. Wonderful writing! Nina Zenik revealing her identity to Brum would've been satisfying. What would he do, anyways? He lost his reputation and was imprisoned for attempting to kill "Prince Rasmus." Any attempt he made to expose her would likely be seen as a ploy to gain respect. It would still be risky; if they looked into her identify they would find out that she was not who she said she was. But as the prince's bride, what could they really do? And the risk is part of the allure of it, in my opinion. I think it would've been sufficient enough if Nina at least pondered the idea of revealing her identity after they announced Nina would marry "Prince Rasmus." Did they ever tell Yula that her child is alive? Zoya's perspective reminded me a lot of Alina's in the Shadow and Bone series for some reason. Is that just me?? Zoya's coronation was beautiful. I love how she (not-seriously) always wanted the crown and to be with Nikolai, and that's exactly what happened. Lovely! The resurrections of the Darkling took away from the finality of Alina losing her power in Ruin in Rising. It also no longer matters that she was the only one who knew his name and mourned the boy he once was. It just kind of makes me think, "What was the point? Did she even have to kill Mal, have him lose his tracking skills, and lose her power if he was just going to come back AND get his powers back? It was such a big deal that she knew his name in the series. I'm glad that it was cleared up that the Sun Soldiers kept their powers. I was a bit confused about that when I read Ruin and Rising. Mayu's perspective at the beginning of Rule of Wolves confused me at first, but in hindsight I like seeing the perspective of an outsider. I think it's more original than just having all of the perspectives be from the main characters. I liked that there was a guild of fabrikators! How do fabrikators show their power when they are initally tested? I would've liked a clearer distinction between Alkemi and Durasts. Does the classification even really matter? Can Alkemi do the same thing that Durasts can (manipulate solid materials) and vise versa? Or are Alkemis basically just smart scientists with no real power? I would've liked more fabrikator rep to clear this up. I would've LOVEDDD to see Zoya explore her newfound powers more! Those are all my thoughts/questions! I'd love to read your replies and to see if any of you agree/disagree with me. :)

IKR IN HIS WEDDING CLOTHES??? This entire series just did Genya dirty tbh I loved the cameos too lol, this duology really doesn't stand up on its own so it's fitting that we get to see the past characters bc ain't nobody gonna read this alone before s&b and understand anything Youre so right about the darkling coming back with his powers ruining the significance of Alina's ending in the trilogy like I was already mad that she had to sacrifice her powers in general so this comeback felt really redundant BUT like the darkling wasn't even a serious villain 😭? I was stuck between finding it hilarious af but also insulting, his plotline was just so comedic honestly, you could've cut out the whole thing and the blight easily. We had enough plot with ALL the countries trying to take over Ravka I actually did like Hanne and Nina in RoW (I didn't in KoS), the whole twist with Prince Rasmus was one of my fav things, I also loved Jurdan what's his name bc it really proved that Matthias's death meant something, he represents all these young brainwashed soldiers who could be better if they weren't forced to be so war hungry and prejudiced. I think he definitely knew or worked out what happened with the Prince. I find the idea of their trio (him + Hanne + Nina) in the heart of the ice court really interesting tbh, all of them playing imposters by the end lmaoo I don't understand the diff between the alkemi and dusrats either 😂 I think the darkling needed both mal and alinas blood bc they're like amplifiers and unlock his powers, again he was such an unnecessary addition that I feel like the least thought went into his parts in the book Idk if this is an unpopular opinion but I didn't like the whole Zoya internalised racism thing, it felt tacked on just to diversify the v v white cast of s&b trilogy, if zoya had even hinted to being another race in the first series I would've understood but this felt just so inorganic, she had enough issues with being underestimated/though unworthy bc of her beauty and being throughly betrayed by someone she was ready to march into any war but instead was used as a tool by a mass murderer, just my opinion as a brown woman tho, esp since Leigh made it necessary to add how white passing Zoya was

"The Witch's Heart" by Genevieve Gornichec. Oh my god, I didn't expect it to make me sob ugly tears by the end of it, I definitely recommend this for reading. Almond and The Shadows Between Us are on my TBR, I guess I need to move them up. Specifically Shadows because of your review I'm just intrigued how bad can it really be :D I also cried my heart out to "Before the Coffee Gets Cold", but interestingly enough for "These Violent Delights" I kind of liked the monster aspect? It kept me going for the mystery of it, because the romance was predictable to me...

SPOILERS FOR RULE OF WOLVES: yeah i can't figure out why she killed off david either becaUSE IT DOESNT MAKE SENSE and i have actually been an emotional wreck over it since it happened since he was my fave for years. i think MAYBE it was to show zoya that love is like worth it, but idk if i were zoya and my best friend's husband died, i would close myself off for the rest of my life. i personally think he should've been kidnapped, it would've been so much more interesting.

I know exactly what you mean! I understand that the event that precipitated the death needed to be given so major weight to readers, but someone else could have been killed off instead. The major death in KoS is a perfect example of how it could have been handled instead of killing off the character she did.

It also helps me add books to my tbr pile, or helps me prioritize if I need to read a book when I have a certain headspace. Have started KoS now, thank you for your review and the heads up to brace myself. I am not sure if you have read these already, but if you have time to help me with my tbr pile, and i hope you find at least one of these helpful. Maybe what’s on my list will turn out to be terrible, I am not sure. (If you know that something is bad, please tell me 😂) 1) Gild - raven kennedy 2) city of brass - s.a. Chakaraborty 3) Poppy wars - r.f kuang 4) night of the dragon - Julie kagawa 5) Scavenge the stars - Tara sim 6) the bone shard daughter - Andrea stewart 7) aurora rising - jay kristoff and amie kaufman 8) four dead queens - Astrid scholte 9) song of the marked - s.m. Gaither. (I don’t know anything about this book, it just has a pretty cover) 10) kingdom of the wicked - Kerri maniscalco What is crazy is that this is just the list I can remember, I am sure there is lots more. If you have already done reviews on any of these, please let me know, so I will go back and watch. First to read is KoS duology. Bring on Nikolai ❤️💕.

I hope you feel better soon 🥺 thanks for putting out content 🌻 I agree with your opinion on Haruki Murakami, I've heard people saying that women are portrayed as mere objects I his work and side characters without their own purposes in his stories and while I understand where that critisism might come from I also feel a lot of his work discusses much deeper and more human concepts that go beyond some of these gender distinctions, but like you said, I too might need to read up more on the debate hehe.

Oh, now I want to read "Almond". I also have a mild alexithymia, which in my case shows itself in my struggle to understand my own feelings (like am I sad or scared? Is it contempt or anger? etc.) Whenever in shitty mental health, I read Terry Pratchett, and so I highly recommend his books! Any one of them. But if you've never read one, start with "Good Omens". It's a delight and fun, and just absolutely beautiful through and through. Hang on there, dear, it's getting better, you know that 🌱

If you like the a historical fiction mystery, the Stalking Jack the Ripper series by Kerri Maniscalo is really good. There are four books set in the late 1800s that follow a female protagonist who is interested in forensics. Another good book is Invictus by Ryan Graudin. It’s not exactly fantasy, but it deals in time travel and criminal heists. I just spent last week reading the entirety of the Grishaverse books and Six of Crows is my new all time fav!

I do agree with you about the KOS duopoly. I feel as though it could possibly have something to do with little to no new ideas, creations and general events; I don't want to spoil anything major, however, this will contain spoilers! SPOILERS: - Zoya and Nikolai wasn't new! Don't get me wrong I love both of them, and them together too, although, it was briefly mentioned in RAR too! - Politics - they almost felt like something that wa always there in the books, but just developed more in this book. not really anything exclusively just for KOS - The demon is a continuation of the SAB trilogy I suppose Nina's POV was kind of new, and I got to experience more of her character. In essence, KOS just felt like a continuation of other books ideas, to tie some small details together!!! Again, I really enjoyed KOS, andLeigh's other books too, Leigh is also an excellent writer :) Happy viewing :)))))))
