I have the bk. Hester. It is #4 to be read next. I am from Massachusetts originally. Went to Salem a few times. The House Of 7 Gables really exists there. It is a very dark city. You just get that feeling and many of the stone bldgs. are gray and black. It truly is a city inhabited by real practicing witches. Every Halloween they have A Witches Ball in a very expensive hotel. Very uncomfortable, creepy feelings, NOT imagining. Many tourists say that. Nathaniel Hawthorne's home is in Concord, Massachusetts. I have been in several times as well as Louisa May Alcott's home. I took swimming lessons as a young child at Walden Pond. I grew up in Lexington Massachusetts where the American Revolutionary War started. I could walk to the Green from my home. (where first battle was). New England is so full of history. I still miss living there after being in crummy Mi. for 40+ yrs. It was a wonderful place to grow up. Full of history and great authors. Very close to Boston. I want to read Cider With Rosie,would love to find an old copy. Thanks! Belated Happy Birthday. Like it when you show other things also. I listen to the Slightly Foxed podcast too-it’s so entertaining. I’ve been intrigued by their publications so it was nice to see your review of them. I’ve always been nervous to purchase because I’m in the United States and I think postage might be high. I’ll check it out though. They’re beautiful. I loved Hester too. The writing is good and just keeps pulling you along in the story. I’m going to look into the crop circle book. Thank you for your thoughtful reviews of the books you’ve read. I’m reading a book of compiled short stories by different authors based on individual Edward Hopper paintings. In Sunlight Or In Shadow. Like any grouping of short stories there are some hit or miss but for the most part entertaining. Enjoy your week.
First time seeing your channel but as soon as you mentioned Karen Carpenter I was hooked! I remember my parents taking me to a Carpenter’s concert when I was about 4 or 5 and I loved it. She was an incredible singer and musician. Not too many people sound like her. ❤ Great books too. I loved When Breath Becomes Air also. So inspirational.
Cider With Rosie lulls you into thinking you're in a post war pastoral. (Author returns to county childhood memories post war) No mistake though, the dark side gets a clear eyed look too. Justifiably a classic.
