I drive my S550 very aggressively (w221) and it’s a blast. The grip this vehicle has is incredible for it’s size. It can take curves at over twice the speed limit with little to know body roll and intense grip. The RWD ones also do pretty great burnouts. They aren’t cheap to maintain, but I don’t know if any other vehicle I’d realistically want to daily more than the S.

Would you mind briefly elaborating on 'They aren't cheap to maintain'? I'm considering buying a 2014 - 2017 S550 and I'd love to have a general idea of what to expect regarding general maintenance expenses. Anything you can offer would be appreciated. Thanks!

@@meech7520 just literally every maintenance part is incredibly expensive compared to almost every other vehicle. I now drive a Porsche Cayenne S and it’s been significantly cheaper to own in the same time period that I had the S. The S went through brakes, tires, and suspension components really quickly. I went through 4 sets of tires in the 25k miles I owned it. The S550 was a 2007 Sport model and the Cayenne is a 2011. Both were bought at about 80k miles. The S was rear ended and totaled at 108k and it’s replacement was the Cayenne. The Cayenne now has 120k. Both fantastic cars and I see myself having another S in the future. Just be prepared to be spending a good chunk on maintenance.

@James Rm you do realize that mercedes doesnt exclusively produce luxury sedan cars. they may have a different philosophy than honda, but reliability doesnt care if you own a performance luxury sedan or a small hatchback. at the end of the day, all manufacturers have to produce cars that people need, and reliability is a key factor. buy a honda and drive it 300k miles with average maintenance, or buy a mercedes and pay 500 dollars to change a rear view mirror.

@@emiliospowerballer1441 you have no clue what you are talking about Mercedes engines and transmissions are bulletproof I've had a s 500 for 20 years (its a 2001) and the engine and tranny have never failed. Only had to fix air suspension and glue windows into their brackets a couple of times which is easy to do by yourself... Plus the Mercedes weighs 2x as much and is still faster Don't talk about things you've obviously never owned

I’m from Europe , and owned many MB different models , never had any major problems with any of them , from w116 to w222 … right now I have two , 2013 GLK350 and 2015 S550 , both fantastic cars … took new Camry for test drive few months ago , it felt like riding in wheelbarrow compared to MB … I’d rather drive 20 year old Mercedes than new Toyota .. only other car I’d buy would be either Rolls Royce or Bentley… if you’re broke , and can’t afford regular service and maintenance on MB , buy Toyota …

I'm also a 20something that opted for the S-Class for the comfort of a large luxury vehicle. I've never had someone call it an "old man" car but I did go for the performance with the S63 AMG. You're not the only person who drives the hell out of their S-Class.

Got a 2016 X222 RWD. Could not even go on a uphill in snow storm. Tried to back up that hill, still failed. Then I learned the lesson and stored it every winter.

I use the massage settings 24/7, at this stage not using the feature because it wears out the seats is like complaining on fuel when your driving a V8. My opinion

I enjoyed my 2010 S550. It was a very very comfortable ride. Problem free car with added perk of people cred. It was my calling card most times and I didn’t even ask for that perk. Great ride!

For the airbag light, I had the same issue when I direct wired the radar detector as you have and forgot to add another fuse into the "Fuse box a Circuit-Kit", it required 2 fuses, one the original I had and one I added. After that no airbag light anymore. All working great. And yes, I completely agree with on all you said about S550, I own it for 6 months, and I'm absolutely in love with it. Traded my F10 M5 for it, and never regretted :)

You need to drive both to really know the difference. 2WD is useless without snow tyres in ice/snow in every way. (unless you are extremely careful, but you can't drive normally). AWD is fine in snow/ice even on summer tyres, but winter tyres improve braking performance 10x over. The tread pattern on winter tyres is designed more about moving and stopping friction than acceleration just fyi.

Hallucinogenichusky I live in the snow belt in Ontario. And don't have AWD. I have a 2008 Toyota Corolla. With Michelin x ice winter tires. That combined with good driving skills does the trick just fine.

7:35 That's how they teach you and want you to parallel park in Germany. Parking spaces are really narrow so you basically have to get within an inch or two of the curb

I do recall a few weeks ago you had an issue where a fuse blew and you couldn't use the 9V outlet, very minor and user-servicable problem but that's the only issue I've seen out of the car!

Today I test drove a 2019 s450 and I loved it (and I'm a 2017 Corvette stickshift owner commuting 1k/month). QUESTION: Do you think that a used 2017 s450 (with a v6 biturbo) is as reliable as your s550 v8 engine?

When i was 21 i had a 300 dollar 1975 Dodge can not related to these Richey rich kids. Still at my age now i can not afford one lol . I have to get by with my 2020 Ram limited. Great review kid you are one lucky person.
