RIP my wallet, lost to taxes 🙏
I decided to track a week of my spending! I used to track my spending really well as a grad student since my money was much more...restricted...but since I started working fulltime again I've kind of abandoned it....do you track your spending? Maybe I should pick it up again hehe
This was a really normal week for me I think!! Let me know if you'd like to see a month or something! Do you find this expensive or cheap? Let me know down below in the comments 🤗

Excellent idea for a video! Think it would be interesting to see how much you pay for rent, utilities, etc. Keep up the great work 👏😎

Measuring the absolute cost, the city I live in is actually a tiny bit more expensive than Tokyo, even though it is actually still pretty cheap for a German town of largeish size. There is an online tool you can use to calculate your cost to live in different places, which we used to find that out. However, after seeing that the average income of an engineer is about half as much in Japan, Tokyo quickly seems quite expensive again.

Tokyo is one of the cities with the greatest income inequality in Japan. Probably on minimum wage they will spend most of their income on rent and food. But, well, it's also a city where you can make money if you have the skills to earn a high income. Because it's the capital and economic centre of Japan.

Visiting the konbini that often doesn't surprise me really, it's super convenient and you're certainly not the only one! Damn do miss the late familymart visits... I spend way more than that equivalent on food and fun out here really, this just seems super liveable!

I'm not French, but as an American, I pronounce Croquette as /ˌkrōˈket/. Saying "Crowket", in the manner we typically butcher the correct pronunciation of French words. Also, wishing you a bbelated happy Birthday, Allison!

It seems a little expensive however you did get new shoes. Me and my partner live off the equivalent of 45,000 yen per week in New Zealand. Happy birthday ^.^

Fellow internet corespondents: Be advised that Japanese currency, bills/notes were recently replaced with "new" money. So some vending machines, particularly those at filling station only accept the old notes. Seems it costs upwards of a million yen to convert them to accept both the old and new notes. So thanks a million Bank of Japan, if it ain't broke don't fix it. Jack, the Japan Alps Brit

Hi Allison, Awesome video, as usual. Please do the rent and utilities comparison. I think that would be interesting fo ra lot of people. For comparison a 3LDK in Okinawa (Nago) is around 75000 Yen.

Wow very interesting video, I didn't think about the city transportation adding up (I guess I don't know how subway cards work, for some reason i thought it was flat fee 😆) anyway very cool and monthly or quarterly expense video would be really interesting since it sounds like Japan has a lot fees that might be slightly different to what they do in other countries too

A Brit male with the grunge look wouldn't dream of paying those prices. A cheaper price is a phone call away or round the corner. 11,000 for a pair of shoes; gimme a break. If I paid 4,000 yen I'd think I'd been ripped off. As example, a 70cl bottle of Cutty Sark in C... z Home is 980 with tax. In the supermarket the self-same product is 1420 plus tax. OTC medication is a lot cheaper too. Jack, the Japan Alps Brit

Hello, I'm just watching your videos. I am thinking of doing a master's degree in Japan. How long does our work permit last after graduation? Also, was it difficult for you to find a job? I would be glad if you can answer
@AllisoninTokyo
@AllisoninTokyo 16 часов назад
You have 6 months to find a job, but it’s common to start looking for a job even over a year before graduation so it’s not too hard if you have qualifications:)

Is a residents tax for foreign workers or non-Japanese workers? Is this a type of unemployment benefit if a situation occurs?
@cecetoday5440
@cecetoday5440 9 часов назад
Resident tax ("juminzei" or 住民税) is for all those living in Japan and who are eligible to pay. I.e. employed people or people earning a certain amount. It's not just for foreign residents. Depending on whether or not you have to file your own taxes it's either taken out of your salary every month, or you get slips to pay at the convenience store. If you're an employee at a company, you'll pay something called "unemployment insurance" (雇用保険). I'm not too sure of the details for taking it out. But I'm pregnant in Japan at the moment, and this insurance will cover my maternity and child care leave once I have my baby.

So you said you will compare in dollars, but you ended up with 91000 odd yen. So compared to your salary, what percentage? Disappointing video.
