I heard Drew Seeley was originally offered the role of Troy but he turned it down to work on his album :P (He even co-wrote Getcha Head In The Game) They cast Zac to play Troy but all the songs were built for someone with a higher range aka Drew (Zac couldn't sing in Drew's range) so they just blended their voices together. Idk why they wouldn't just get someone who could sing as high as Drew tho.

I personally think he and Vanessa don’t even have the kind of chemistry singing meanwhile Vanessa and zac have chemistry singing and acting (just an opinion though)

i feel bad for drew bcs he didn't get enough credit. he sang all those high notes in hsm 1 and in him 2 & 3 but i heard that they 'blended' their voice together

people are saying that Drew sang in the other 2 HSM's but guys, Troy's voice is clearly different in the other two movies...the thing is: Zac sang in the other two. TBH i dont know exactly if Zac has done vocal classes or something, but he knows how to sing, and if you dont believe me then search "Zac Efron and Taylor Swift duet" and you will see!

Well... I heard that Zac tried to sing a little in all the movies.. But he wasn't confident in his voice since he was more of an actor so Drew was made the singer for Troy in the first movie but in the other two he took vocal lessons to perfect his voice and so he was able sing them and managed to sound pretty close to Drew.. Plus he sang parts in the first movie but the majority of Troy's singing in the first movie is Drew
Actually the first High School Musical, Zac and Drew's voices were blended because the writers had written songs that suited Drew's voice not Zac's. Zac sang the lower parts and Drew the higher. In High School Musical 2 & 3 they made songs that suited Zac. But they might've also used Drew but I don't think so.
I always feel like they did drew dirty by not giving him enough credit. I mean now we all now but we should’ve known from the beginning. He's got a nice voice but I'm relieved Zac Efron got the role. I mean, he was perfect and you could even "touch" the chemistry between him and Vanessa! They were so real. One of the best couple ever. One of the best trilogy ever! Miss HSM so much
Same here. I mean zac as Troy was coo but freaking Drew has the voice and the looks also and he can act! Why did they let zac lip sing drews voice I just figured out that that singing is drews singing I feel like I've bn lied to bcus I always thought wow zac has a very nice voice and sexy and the whole time it's drews. No wonder he did the hsm concerts instead of zac.
no they werent the songs from the first movie are the iconic ones that the new series recreated that when they get bands to sing medleys of disney songs its the ones from the first movie that get sung

Don't forget that Zac did Hairspray after the first hsm, so the vocal trainers had obviously worked with him. Zac and Vanessa had chemistry, Drew, not so much. At least the hsm songwriters wrote the next two movies with Zac's vocal range in mind. Anyway, I think that all 3 movies are fantastic, I just wish that Zac could've sung for the first one too.
I don't know why he's getting so much hate. Okay, I do love Zac too, but Drew's awesome. They have chemistry imo. He did a good job and he's pretty. If the situation was reversed, you would "hate" Zac. ;)
Let's be clear. Drew is singing for Zac during High school musical 1 only because he hadn't the voice that the producers wanted. But then in HSM2&3 Zac is really singing. For the 1st tour, he won't go because he's not singing so he didn't want to do playback and ask Drew to go on tour because he is actually singing in the first movie.

Drew Seeley's voice had been blended with Zac Efron's voice for the character of Troy Bolton in High School Musical. In addition, Drew filled in for Zac (who was shooting Hairspray) in the High School Musical: The Concert tour (as you can see).
Now I know what should happen in HSM 4. They have to do it and the story would be about this that Troy and rest of these best people get a musical job, but for some reasons Troy has benn replaced by another singer and Gabriella have to sing on concerts with this another man, not Troy. This video gave me feelings that Vanessa wasn't really happy to sing with Drew but Drew was really proud of himself and happy. Of course at the end of HSM 4 Troy would have to get his place again and sing last concert with Gabriella and their friends :) That would be really great, but yeah... I dont thinks to, that they will release HSM 4 :/

Because on some songs they have to dance while singing so they have ear mic but when they're singing a slow song like this one I guess it sounds better with a hold mic ! ;)
@millstown680 Yep that is what I thought too, because when I heard him in the 2nd HSM his voice was way different than in the 1st one, it fit him LOL, most people don't know that, that Zac never sang in HSM!! well the first one I mean LOL.
No, in the first movie he didn't sing :/ if Im not wrong he sings the first two verses from the first song, but the whole soundtrack was sang by Drew...That's wht he went on tour
the singing part of troy was originally made for a Tenor male voice, but zac efron is bariton. the soundtrack was already written when they decided to give zac the lead role, so drew got the chance to sing some songs for zac. in the other parts of HSM the male part of troy is made for a bariton, so zac did actually sing every other song, except breaking free, start of something new and what i've been looking for... he was good enough, it just wasn't his key
