@@mrbilter83 not necessarily. They could brush over that it the prologue and still have the climax only be one chapter. In new mystery there’s a bunch of exposition in the prologue chapters. Maybe have a scout report recent bits and have random dialogue here and there that explains what happened

They didn't add an avatar in SoV. They added some new characters but they kept the main story intact (i.e. Alm cannot end up with Faye, Celica can't end up with Saber, etc). This really stands out to me. Reason why I believe when they do remake Genealogy they won't butcher it or add an avatar.

Awakening doubled down on the avatar system and made Robin even more integral to the story (i.e. the story would make even less sense if the avatar wasn't there, unlike New Mystery where you could remove Kris entirely and lose almost nothing of value), and it ended up almost singlehandedly reviving a franchise that would've been iced permanently had the game not succeeded. If Kris was responsible for FE12's failure, then why was Robin's game such a smash hit? Also, New Mystery didn't sell poorly because of Kris; it sold poorly because it released after the Tellius games and Shadow Dragon, which were hardcore strategy games for a niche audience released on consoles whose audiences were primarily made up of people who don't play video games. Not only that, but Path of Radiance was released when the GameCube was basically dead, Radiant Dawn received no marketing whatsoever, was a sequel to a game that wasn't that popular to begin with, and was released a week before Super Mario Galaxy, and Shadow Dragon was a remake of a game that no one outside of Japan had even heard of. Look, I'm not the biggest fan of Kris either, but laying the blame for the franchise's near-demise solely at their feet is just shortsighted and wrong.

@@ryangallagher9723 I consider adding an avatar to a remake and rescripting the game rather different from making a new game (or story, more accurately) centered around an avatar. Even with Awakening and Fates selling as incredibly well as they did, they still left Gaiden intact by not introducing an avatar in Echoes: Shadows. So either a) that was a strange fluke, or b) IS got the point that storywise, a lack of an overhaul is better. Could be either. As long as the game is fun and the story isn't made significantly worse, I'm not going to bother caring.

@@ryangallagher9723 Well its because in the first place, the game is dont have an avatar. So when they released an avatar, it ends up taking a spotlight from an already established character like Marth for example. But Awakening is brand new story and even though an avatar exist there, Robin role not really take Chrom or Lucina role too much. They do it again and try to make avatar as a main Lord, but thats not working either. At least with Byleth, they succeed and the game is better than Awakening for many of Fire Emblem fans. If Kris role is like Robin and not take spotlight of other character too much, I think the game will sell well especially for veteran who enjoy Fire Emblem 1 and 3.

The kids dying has to happen for two reasons. Lore-wise, and another reason I'll point out after. Lore-wise... Children, and mostly children, are filled with potential Quintessence that a being like Loptous would love to gather for himself. Hence the sacrifices. Claud himself does mention that Quintessence exists in Jugdral. However, the darkest reason is not only because of how totally messed up it is (Duh), but because of how simply efficient it is. I shall state via a quote I found. "You take children and say 'Hey? Kill each other. Whoever survives this will be ascended into nobility. You will have wealth, and privilege, and a welcome position of governance over our new order." Just have to look up "Hitler-Jugend, Bund deutscher Arbeiterjugend ("Hitler Youth, League of German Worker Youth") to know how the end result of such a practice is just so evil it really is.

I’ve noticed this a lot with his content actually. Maybe it’s because English isn’t his first language, but if you watch his unit reviews with Mekkah you could do the same drinking game when he says “walking blank”, or “perfectly serviceable unit”. Love his content, just noticed this overtime

I’ve never been as bothered by the no trading mechanic. The only tweak to it I’d make is that lovers should be allowed to trade with each other the same way they’re allowed to pass gold between them. Also, I love the giant maps. They feel epic.

big maps have pros and cons, what I really hate about it is that I need to pick whether I use the return staff here or not but at the same time it's challenging that makes it fun as hell, it really inspires me to do Maddening, Hector hardmode and Lunatic long story short: I hate and love that you need brain cells to complete the chapters

My first time playing FE4 was about half a year ago and I hated it. I know die hard fans may be used to it, but as first time player without a real guide (I had some recommended pairings but that was it) it’s so punishing when I realized the only way to trade items around was through gold management on each person and guess who died early on. Yeah the thief kid(forgot his name). I don’t see why they can’t have a personal tracker for weapons used by a person and said weapon bonus stats only apply to them (Max brave sword is only applicable to A and said kid A has, if A trades to B or A’s kid trades to another kid the stats are lost). It would go a long way in improving first time players experience because it’s honestly just annoying.

@@oof5992 Echoes cinematics looked good. The low framerate- at least in my opinion- accented the artstyle very well. I personally think they even look better than Fates/Awakening cinematics. You should totally check out a compilation of the echoes cinematic cutscenes, the frame rate really DOES add to it. Not defending 3h though, they look unfinished in that game for the most part.

Fix some units like Sophia will be one of the things. How a half dragon dark mage user is a level 1 unpromote with those stats and growths, at least she should have Est growths or more level.

- Make some units more viable. I know some people like the Power Fantasy of FE6 were not everyone is equal and that is a fine approach but as someone said above, units like Sophia or Gwendi and Roy himself are just complete suffering to train and use. - Remove ambush spawns. - Make it so that you can get the true ending without obtaining all of the Legendary Weapons (hmmm MAYBE) - Rework Sacae entirely - Give Fae an actual dragon transformation and not the giant chicken one she has.

after completing metroid zero mission (which is a remake of the original metroid) you get an option on the title screen to play the original. It's something I wish more remakes would do. I feel like it also lets the developers make more changes to the game, because even if it sucks, you now have access to the better version.

The support system could help anyone who hasn’t that much dialogue like Noish (who only have a dialogue with Erynis or Lachesis in chapter 5 if he is married to one of them), also, supports like talk conversations can give some items or stats, like Ethlyn giving some sword to Sigurd or Beowulf being a mercenary can teach some skills to Alec or Noish for example.

What i want from a FE4 remake is a more deep look into Arvis's character, people blame him way too much for stuff he didn't planned or had nothing to do with it such as Deidre's kidnapping or the child hunts. I would like to show more scenes, maybe flashbacks even, where it's shown taking care of it's half-brother Azel or show how much he actually loved Deidre, julia and even Julius. After all, the game itself says that Arvis was a great emperor and that he was sorry for not being able to stop neither Julius or the lopto party

Genealogy is my absolute favorite in the series and it could definitely benefit from a Remake but it needs to be done with love and care. I pretty much agree with everything you mentioned, the Path of the Crusader idea is really cool, never would’ve thought of that for difficulty options. That clip of Ced fighting Arion was tense, how did he keep missing? Lmao!

I would very much like scenes after battle of belhalla for the mothers, like tailtyu escaping with erinys while erynis showing early signs of her illness, or lachesis going through yied desert while showing in the distance the lopto cult waiting for her and edain catching up to shannan and the other children, maybe even a scene showing briggid distracting bandit while plummeting to the ocean

I must say that Genealogy is one of the few games I've played that conveyed a genuine sense of itself being truly epic. I'd say it's because it cements that into your mind with the intro and title screen, which has the best rendition of the Fire Emblem theme, followed by the very first map which is huge and has Sigurd's theme playing.

Regarding kill counts and trading weapons you could just make it an expertise mechanic, if Finn kills 50 units with a brave lance, he reaches an expertise threshold and the weapon becomes more powerful FOR HIM ONLY. When you trade it around it defaults to the number of kills that unit has with that particular type of weapon and they can become better at it as well but only after accruing 50 kills with it by themselves, make it so the character becomes more capable with said weapon instead of the weapon becoming magically better.

Out of curiosity, how would you guys feel about this as sort of an in-between of the old and new trading/gold mechanics? Tie them to the support system. Obviously weapon ranks would need to be adjusted somewhat, but maybe units would only be able to trade C-Rank weapons at C-Support, B-Rank at B-Support and so on. That way, two characters would need an established bond to feel comfortable potentially giving away something valuable like a Brave Sword. This puts a limit on being able to pass around your best weapons without proper setup and encourages the player to pay attention to the bonds their units make. Alternatively, maybe have trading open up in stages? Like C-Support grants the ability to trade gold, B-Support trades rings, and A-Support trades weapons. In the case of a unit getting hold of an item they can't use (ex. Sigurd getting Elwind from an enemy drop), they could either sell it to the pawn shop like normal, or be able to just give it to someone.

That's actually a pretty cool idea! The way I would solve trading in FE4 is simply to enable it at the home castle and disable it everywhere else. The thing about there being no trades is that it encourages you to think of each unit as having a personal set of items tied to only that unit. Trading only in the castle means that no unit can separate itself from their items until the end of the (ridiculously long) map, which I think fulfills the purpose.

How I would handle an avatar in fire emblem. Make them a villager with aptitude. No holy blood, no bullshit. In character creation, make the player choice 1 of 5 personalities which effects not only your growths but what supports are available. That's right, your OC can not be friends with everyone. Personalities can include things like bland, clown, asshole, timid, etc. This would also alter battle quotes and your pointless dialogue options in story moments (if they want to some what fix that, pull a three houses and have some options make you gain and lose support with units, but implemented better.) Thier involvement in the main story is minimal. You are the recruitable villager character. You might have a few chapters or paraloges where you are the focus but they should be few and not overstay thier welcome. Though if they do the whole "my village was destroyed by brigands" I would not be against an early game paraloge that puts the player up against a small army of bandits and thier captain. Perhaps give them a set of boots as a reward. To make your oc truly your own, they would be the only unit that can promote to any base class FROM VILLAGER. I would image you would get a seal after chapter 1 that would promote only you. Is this perfect, no. But it was a thought.

I kinda hope theres extra chapters that elaborate more on the plot and give more chances to learn about the character's and world building of fe4. I hope the story draws inspiration from the manga and uses it to help better understand character motives as appose to the game where you don't really learn much unless you seek to. The manga handled some of the character's really well but was also filled with some fluff that the game did better in. Maybe have a chapter where you get to meet up with leaf and his party or something like that.

I don't like at all the FE4 manga, is just very edgy for my taste with things that never happened in the game or changing it. Like Eithlyn's suicide and Sigurd harassing Deidre.

If they made a PoR remake, they might be able to make the third installment to tellius if it does well, and considering how a lot of people love those games these days, it would probably sell well.

The only way I'd be fine with Ishtar being recruitable is if it were a part of an unlockable ending where you exorcise Loptous from Julius instead of killing the poor boy. But at the same time, I feel something like that would be best left in the hands of a skilled fanfic writer since the story is honestly near perfect as is.

Against dumbing down or dancing around the dark parts of the story. it's simply what makes the FE4 story what it is and sets it apart. English localisation already has a nasty habit of changing too much as well. While i like another 2d game loyal to the FE4 engine. i have a hard time seeing it happen. Hope i'm wrong in that. Agree on the no avatar thing. The big maps will be difficult to balance. they need to be big for reasons mentioned but it's no secret that non cav units in fe4 suffer because of it too. Would like to see the substitute characters at least make a cameo even if you don't go the substitute route

FE4 didn't age good mechanically, but FE5 still is mechanically pretty modern. Just need to fix a couple of small things (like 1 RNG, split mag/res and limit staff range)

Dang this video is long. I hope in the remake that some parts of the game's story is altered like in the manga. The manga honestly humanized a lot of the villians in the game and stuff. Also an idea of mine is that some substitutes appear in the game appears in the game as green units that help on certain chapters if certain requirements are met since some of the substitutes have some importance to the story. I would love if the substitutes got to appear in the game even if you did pairings.

I would add extra playable characters for both gens, like young Oifey who can't promote in gen 1, for gen 2; 2 extra children units and 2 Thracia characters like you mentioned, Saias and maybe Eyvel, or manage to recruit Ishtar or Arion on the final battle

I imagined Selim, Saias, and Sara as well - including some of the substitutes. (Especially Linda) Saias would try to reason with Alvis, and they refuse to attack each other. If Saias is recruited, Alvis doesn't hold it against him but tells Seliph "...Saias is among you... do me one favour... Give... him... Valflame." Selim would be all "Hello... Manfroy..." who would tell him "The Loptous does not tolerate traitors. That's the rule.It seems I will be taking you down myself, where Veld failed!" Sara would of course be all "Time to DIE, 'GRANDFATHER'!"

In regards to holy blood and holy weapons: I'd like the addition of "lesser holy weapons" linked to the crusaders useable even with minor bloodlines. FE5 already add to the lore things like Blagi Sword and Dire Thunder (plus a tons of other personal weapons) that are still linked on a narrative level to a specific family/holy blood ownership. The concept could be used and expanded upon giving minor bloodline characters a mechanical crutch to make them more relevant in battle and could be used to develop Jugdral's lore.

That would make me hate the 'only one child can inherit major holy blood' thing a lot less and it would be nice to not have to leave the demi-gods siblings in the dust. Bonus points if these things have minor differences that the main holy weapons don't even have to prevent them from just being inferior incarnations, although I would take a diet version of something awesome on top of the awesome one over just the awesome one anyday.

So... basically the heros relics and holy weapons in 3houses. If you have a crest you can SAFELY use any of em, you dont get the cool bonuses if your crest dont match... but in this case alterations to fit the game, more so were just talking the hoky (silver) weapons

Here's an idea if/when they remake Genealogy and Thracia, separately though: Have the ability to influence growths and bases of characters in Thracia based on save data from Genealogy, just like how it works with Path of Radiance and Radiant Dawn. If Quan and Ethlyn have maxed stats, Leif would get a few extra points in Thracia. if Rachesis married Finn, Nanna and Finn would have some dialogue about them being family, or if you have Janne, she'd replace Nanna in Thracia. If Ced's father isn't Lewyn, or was replaced with Hawke, it'd be reflected in Chapter 4x and Chapter 23. Since some portraits of the substitute kids are in Thracia, maybe have them show up, too, whether as cameos or as new playable units.

I would say yes to an avatar with the conditions being that he has a less avatarish child and that he/she dies with the first generation. And as a crazy idea have Julias use his Loptus powers to bring the first gen back like how the fates dlc did it for its side story and use your posessed avatar as a uming threat.

Well, canonically I believe some of the deadlords are Gen 1 units, at least, Brigid/Eyvel can end up as one in thracia, so it wouldn’t be out of the question for them to double down on that

Not even done with the video yet but a lot of the things you mentioned are actually addressed in FE4 Binary. Weapon kill count effect being toned down to +1 crit per 10 kills, and +1 crit for the character per 10 kills. Pursuit being balanced around different speed thresholds for doubling and weight reduction based on str/2 or 3. Many of these changes would work great for a potential fe4 remake.

Maybe if they made Thracia an DLC, and if you manage to capture Reinhardt it would unlock a cutscene in actual remake that shows Reinhardt meeting Ishtar after her defeat against Seliph/Leif... I know, i know a little fanfiction, but hey, its a remake after all, they COULD do that, at least recruitable(by capturing him) Reinhardt on Tharacia part.

As someone who thought I'd hate Genealogy, I disagree with the idea that the game plays poorly at all! It's soooo much fun! I also disagree with the incest and child hunts being taken out or neutered. Genealogy is a mature story that deserves to be shown in total without masking anything.

What I want: > Buff the muggle characters. (Arden, Alec, the substitutes, etc.) The Holy Blood characters have decent/good growths, but then you get the muggle characters and their growths are like _maybe_ health and defence. Just something to encourage a more diverse gameplay > I also want the crusader weapons to be as broken as they were because they're so rare and exclusive. Three Houses is the other end of the spectrum where some Crests trigger so rarely that you forget they exist and using Relics without a crest isn't a real issue because healing. > Beating the game once should unlock 'Substitute Mode' where pairs do not count (ie you can still pair units for items and bonuses, but the narration just says everyone died childless) and you start with all the substitutes unlocked. That way you don't have to bend over backward to use substitutes if you want the challenge. > Enable reclassing OR have it like Three Houses where any class can wield any weapon so that it opens up the pairing system a little more and you aren't limited to the exact same pairings every playthrough. OR have it so that Holy Weapons/unique weapons are passed down to the child that can potentially use them (ie: Tailtyu x Claude, Tinny inherits the Valkyrie because she can use staves after promotion, Lewyn x Adeen, Lana inherits Forseti because she gains Anima after promotion)

I realised that lore wise genetic inheritance doesn't know what 'class' the children are going to be but it still irks me how sometimes the child who gets the major stuff can't even use it when the other one would. Maybe they could make the holy blood enable someone to use that weapon type regardless of what class they are; though that could still screw over the other siblings in comparison... I think it would be cool if major holy blood could be inherited indefinitely instead of only one child because I personally feel the thought that only one of my children can be a strong as me and the others just get scraps is kinda demoralizing; I'd feel kinda guilty about that. (The child thing is hypothetical, I don't actually have kids in case anyone asks).

Good watch, agree with pretty much every one of your points. Only thing I'd add is in regards to the game's soundtrack; TLDR I don't want them touching it. The music of FE4 is amazing not only because of the standout tracks, but because of how it enhances the game's storytelling. Stuff like the armies and countries each having their own themes, and some having both good and corrupted versions (Friege, Velthomer etc.) speaks and gives character in ways that traditional dialogue can't. On top of that, there's leitmotif that's actually used effectively and not crammed into every single song like in Fates. Probably the best example of this I can thing of is (spoilers obviously) how the Doors of Destiny track is a remix of Conversation 1, the latter of which plays at the pivotal story moment when Eldigan rides to Chagall in Chapter 3, knowing full well that he's gonna die. By doing this, the game flat out foreshadows the outcome of Chapter 5 as nothing more than a brutal death march, but it's done so in such a subtle way that the majority of player's aren't gonna pick up on it during their first playthrough. Moments like these, when you're immersed entirely through gameplay and feeling, is where FE4's storytelling excels.

I saw a lot of people talking about expanding Gen 1 Oifey into a avatar-like character with customization options (for example, being able to give him different minor Holy bloods or changing his class). Given that he’s already a pretty relevant character, it sounds like having the gameplay benefits of an avatar without them bogging down the story

Completely agree with you on not wanting to nerf the holy weapons and holy blood. It's a great story to gameplay integration. I really hate it when some characters or in universe mechanics are hyped up so much but end up being mediocre in actual gameplay. Holy blood characters have the blood of the dragons in them, and their major holy blood awakens the true power of the holy weapons. It makes sense that you would be able to solo entire armies with them - both the narrative and the mechanics tell you so.

Mega spoilers, but I think it'd be sick if Julia could be snapped out of her mind control thing that Manfroy puts on her by her lover (if she has one.), since genealogy has a big emphasis on romance between units. I think it should still be only after Manfroy's killed and you still have the option to have Seliph talk to her.

What I would want (ignoring the censorship issues for a moment); Story- Improve Gen 2's story in general. Gen 1 has a great story, but gen 2's story is more so mediocre. Like for example, they need to do something about the moment where Manroy just simply lets Julia leave the castle (sure, he has her brainwashed, but it's still a bad move). Give moments of screen time for some side characters. When it comes to Travant himself, tie a few things about his portrayal in Trachia 776 with this remake; like how he caress for his country but is still brutal to his enemies. You know that optional moment where Seliph talks to the spirits of his parents? I feel that should more so be a story important moment after the chapter is finished. In Thracia 776, it's possible for all of Leif's army in chapter 20. However, in Geneology, he claims that nearly his entire army was wiped out. At least mention that his army is just simply fatigued and thus they have been left vulnerable or something that ties that moment better into Thracia 776. Show some of the gen 1 characters surviving the Battle of Belhalla and provide small foreshadowing of what will happen to some of the survivors, like Erin's illness. The Maps- Either provide warp points that unlock over time or make it so that the maps get segmented for specific moments of that chapter. The Castle- Add in a forging option Access DLC in the castle at any time Downtime story moments inside the castle if possible Allow to play available support conversations Allow for individual units to add to a universal gold pile Nerf the arena option. Whether it be to restrict what weapons are allowed, penalties for bringing in stronger weapons, scale enemy units with your units, or even bother to penalize the losing unit harder. Pairings- Support conversations, obviously. Similar to how it works in Path of Radiance or the 3DS era games (minus how the children units were handled in Fates). Make sure that the bug that makes it even possible to pair Seliph up with Julia is not even possible (even with incest being so prevalent in this title) Holy Blood (which would probably get renamed to Blood Alignment or Blood Inheritance in the US version)- Give some sort of bonus those with minor blood to stand a better chance Trading- At least make it so that once they have b-rank or even a-rank, it's possible to trade without the need to marry. Also provide some sort of explanation as to how inheritance with items and weapons work. The pursuit skill- I would prefer there is a 5 speed difference in order to be able to double. If they had to keep in pursuit, just rework how the skill works. Make it so that it's still possible to double without it, but provide some sort of bonus. The substitutes- It seems like they really did not take into account it's possible to have a second generation run with just the substitutes. They could use a slight buff. Maybe have their own unique skills to make up for the lower stats. Thracia 776- Aside from the stuff I already mentioned, it would neat to provide a bonus content system if Trachia 776 remake detects a save file involving Genealogy or just simple cameos. Other stuff- Axes should be similar to how they have been since Path of Radiance, rework the anima tomes and their secondary triangle, training weapons added, re-balance skills, nerf weapon triangle percentage bonus and weapon ranking factor into triangle bonuses, indoor gaiden maps, side story maps to focuses on other characters (if no indoor gaiden map during the main story, then at least have these sometimes take place indoors), and the inclusion of a proper hard mode (the only thing Clever mode does is make enemy formations more aggressive).

With the substitutes I do want to point out that they are sorta supposed to be weaker than the Holy Blood kids because they are effectively only there just to ensure you have units. I think they should probably have some of the members of Tharacia 776 in the remake because it's possible that FE5 wasn't even close to being fully built when FE4 came out and thus, couldn't know which ones could be put in (I don't know). I would personally have some of them be playable and imply that the rest of them are defending the smaller areas since some of them do technically relocate when Leif meets Seliph at the end of FE5, I'm not the biggest fan of the FE5 army basically saying "So yeah, we did some dying off camera". I saw a comment by someone else who pointed out an idea of making the Minor Holy Bloods viable. The rest of the stuff mentioned sounds spot on, cool ideas.

I would honestly keep the same trading system. You dont really need to trade if you can repair the weapon anyway. Trading should be use when you are stuck with a weapon that you cant use, which is your fault to begin with.

Thanks Mangs for this deep analysis. FE Gaiden and FE4 are the only two I played through childhood time. Now I'm training my kids to play it. I think it's best only to add the HD and CG, not a remake, without changing the map and mechanism. They create the big maps and unique mech to fit the characters' traits and stats growth, hence to balance the game and make the games what they are. The games almost force you to pick your finalists early and settle down to uplvl them into monsters in the late game, as the difficulties between one level to next is pretty steep. So my only ask from the developers is to make it HD and add CG among transitions, without changing anything else. Just like some of popular HD versions, HD AOE2, HD SC, HD HOMM3, HD DIABLO2, nothing else should change. Because anything else changes will easily make it a different and strange game, e.g. look at the WC3 remake - a shame under its own banner.

Some chapters like 1, 2,3, 6,7 could easily be chopped into smaller parts, and I think it would help out a lot because you'd have more time for between chapter cutscenes. Then some maps like 5 9, finale really need to stay massive to retain the epic scale.

what would be interesting in a genealogy remake is.. specifically based on the original where it IS possible for quan and ethlyn to survive and defeat travant.. IF quan and ethlyn survived the yeld massacre(by defeating travant via overleveling the two and being lucky with rng), they join sigurd's army, but would still die at the end of ch 5, instead of where in the original they just take the castle sigurd was supposed to go to, softlocking the game. and can never be recruited. there should be a few extra scenes for if the pair defeated travant in such a remake but it only changes the story slightly(ie travant still obtains altena, its just after the finale of ch 5.)

Another way to handle the large map issues is just to allow the player to command a unit to move a long distance over multiple turns, ALA Civilization. It's not a perfect solution, but it is an improvement.

For the large maps of this game i really think they should use the battalion feature from 3h however instead of making one battalion just stay in a single tile with the unit they can just be following you around. Kinda like how in the endgame the wyvern riders and arion follow altena around. You could control a unit's battalion on your own but not move them one by one instead just give them a target or command them to defend a castle. You can replenish your battalion in any castle but they might get very expensive Other than that i really agree with many things you said and i definitely would like to see saias as a playable character. He can be with the kids fleeing from munster castle so it would make protecting them a bit easy

Great video Mangs. I agree with most of your takes in the video. Here are the things I would like for an FE4 remake in addition to many of the things you mentioned: - Keep the enormous maps but make them be formed in a more interesting fashion. Turn every section between castle somewhat of a classic Fire Emblem Map. Something that makes FE4 such a slog to play is how "flat" and overly simple the maps feel. - For that I would like them to give all non mounted units more movement while keeping mounted units be as overpowered with ultra canto. - Include Trading for Weapons and other support items such as Staffs BUT keep the Pawn Shop booster items such as Rings. Make it also so that Rings can be broken down into small pieces called "Ring Shards" and they can be bought/sold individually. The more ring shards a character has, the stronger the item gets ofc. - That being said, make it so that pairings and thieves can transfer individual amounts of gold. - Your Path of the Crusader idea sounds great. Would give the game more diversity and varying challenges without necessarily over inflating it.

Day 34 of reminding Mangs to play Pokémon Conquest. Also, do this for a “definitive edition” of Shadow Dragon. For the Holy Weapons, if you really don't want them to nerf the buffs, make it so that, after you use it once in a turn, you can't use it again at all until the next turn. On enemy phase, you get defaulted to either the next weapon in your inventory, or your second strongest weapon, but you still get the passive bonuses from the holy weapon. If the Holy Weapon is somehow your only weapon in your inventory, you can use it to counter attack but the bonuses are cut in half until player phase.

Although, if we got an avatar character, they really wouldn't be able to do much unless they add like a secret hidden forgotten crusader the avatar is descended from. However, I wouldn't be opposed because we all know the avatar will just die with Sigurd and his army, and probably the only characters you might not be able to get with are Sigurd, Deirdre and such, those who canonically fall in love with someone else. The child of the avatar could potentially be interesting with their relationship with other characters and maybe we learn more about the forgotten crusader. This doesn't need to happen, they don't need an avatar character, I just wouldn't mind. but if we get any avatar in the future, bring back the ability to customize your upbringing like they had with Kris

@@leafbrownhairedmaiden4710 yes jealously system works in this way (im not good in english im gonna try to be clear): you know that if you want to 2 characters falls in love with each other you need to keep one besides other at the end of each turn right? well, you can do it faster with jealously system example you have lewyn besides erynis, but if silvia is besides silvia , the love points of that turn goes to silvia, no to erinys (so, in general, you can make two characters fall in love faster if you place another character with can fall in love between them) this works with seliph and julia because when they first met they almost fall in love with love, but the love growths of julia are negative (so instead of falling in love, start forgetting him), so you can use the jealousy system placing any female that can fall in love with seliph between julia and seliph

I could not be more against preserving the map size as it is in the original game, as that is the main issue I have with the game, specially for the sake of a story that I'm most likely to skip in other playthroughs. Not only are those maps really boring to traverse, but they hurt otherwise great units. If they want to preserve the feeling of conquering an entire nation, they could perhaps do something in the molds of Chapter 18 of Path of Radiance and have it divided into multiple sections into the same chapter. As for the difference between Holy Bloods and Non-Holy Bloods, I think it could be done in a similar fashion to the Two and Three-tiered units: Holy Bloods would have higher caps and growths to match, while normal units would work very much with the limitations of a two-tier unit, so it would take multiple of them to take down a single Holy Blood enemy.

It would probably be a bit annoying, but they could keep each character having their own money, and have trading items for money between characters without the pawn shop. Also maybe make the arena only able to be completed a certain number of times per castle.

for the large maps, what if, when you seize a castle, the area around that castle becomes an area where you can move as much as you like in one turn, that way you cann get into the area of the next castle in one turn and once you get there your movement returns to normal

Some maps you have to backtrack and stop enemies to invade your own fort.. So that'd remove those things, since you either had to put someone to defend there, or use staves and such to send people to defend... Tho that'd make the maps faster... That's for sure

For the larger maps, how about some type of re-deploy or reposition mechanic after capturing castles, so I don’t waste several turns manually moving my army before capturing each castle? Agree with most everything else you said. Path of the crusader could be interesting, but I’d prefer a hard/lunatic mode.

If there was any reason I wouldn't want a remake of Genealogy or Thracia 776; it would be due to Nintendo of America's censorship policies. They would potentially censor both games heavily; especially with the child hunts in both of them and incest being even more prevalent in Genealogy than anywhere else in the series.

I want an avatar but instead of focusing on the avatar, they should focus more on other characters like Eldigan. it's kinda exiting your avatar being in the game, experiencing lots of things til chapter 5 with Sigurd and his army. but then the story shouldn't change and it should stay like that with a little more upgrades to the remake. I don't know what will happen but I hope they make a Sacred Stones remake...

I thought so the other day, to add I believe they would make him a Loptrian Mage calss - kinda like that dude from FE5 - since there was ZERO playable dark mage in the original. Also to pay homage to Robin.

We really don't need an avatar Like for real, it brings absolutely nothing to the game, except some generic annoying added dialogues If they remake Fe4, i really hope it's just enhanced gameplay, and visuals, for the most part It might be tedious to play for some people, but fuck'em, there are a tons of fire emblem games, we don't need to remake one of the most original to make it closer to the recent ones to not shock other people

A snippit of my large comment I made for the video (very recent): I do think if they would add an Avatar character, they would probably Axe Oifey though, as Oifey's role is minor and I can just see it fit. I just hope it's not forced in and implement it like it was in Fe7 though. I just wish that if they were to add a Playable avatar, You can only marry Gen 2 characters (although I can see a problem with marrying child units. Then again, Oifey/Shannan can marry them as well and no one has any real problems with that). This way, the Avatar experiences both Gens just Like Oifey and be more in part with the world. I just wish there would be an option to not play with an avatar though if they do this.

I think the way you have to use the pawn shop is an amazing feature of the game. I don't want this to go away. I really love all the extra strategizing and thinking it adds to the game. Restriction breeds creativity. And it really adds to the feel of every unit in the army being a person with their own items and needs and money to spend. I love it.

What I imagine : Normal sized maps for Gaiden chapters Villages and castles that are connected maps to the Big chapter map ( with walls and balistae) so you really have the feeling of besieging a Fortress. A Time wheel mechanic or at least a Phoenix mode Siege weapons and maybe dedicated units Some New characters. An actual support mechanic that lets you chose who you want to pair ( and will add some lore) Full voice acting ( and not only in english or japanese if possible) A reworked trade system.

Shanam should definitely be a secret character added to gen 2, and with identical everything to Shanan but with no Balmung. Mareeta and Eyvel are also up there for additional Thracia characters that would fit

Nah. Eyvel and mareeta should just have a cameo where if you enter manster with faval or patty they talk to eyvel and that event changes the siblings ending a bit

@@swagalisgoodra2121 Mareeta is fair enough, but I feel like there’s definitely potential for some good character moments with Eyvel just because her fate in FE5 probably wasn’t intended when FE4 was being developed. You could get away with just a cameo but I feel like that’s almost wasting all the additional material Thracia gave to work with

It’d be neat if they did the difficulty mechanic you mentioned but instead of buffing certain enemies they would buff all enemy units according to holy blood. It could work like the scrolls from Thracia, the Hezul scroll in that game gives 30% and 10% boosts to hp and attack growths respectively so when you select the “Hezul difficulty” it would buff all enemy units hp and attack.

I was told this is the place I'm supposed to inform you that I hard disagree with you on some points. Let's go over them! 1. Pursuit. Not only do I feel that the Pursuit skill is perfectly well designed and integral to the identity of FE4, I also feel that the arguments for taking it out don't make any sense. You say that "if a character doesn't have Pursuit, they are almost always universally bad," but that isn't at all true in Gen 1. All the units that don't have Pursuit in Gen 1: Cuan, Ethlyn, Lex, Noish, Arden, Aideen, Dew, Deirdre, Lachesis, Lewyn, Sylvia, Claude, Tailtiu. Most of those are good units. Some of them don't have good combat, but they're not supposed to, because they aren't combat oriented units. The only one I'd agree with your description is Arden, whose appeal is honestly that he IS bad, which can be fun in it's own way. And possibly Tailtiu, but her problem mostly isn't a lack of Pursuit, because she can still one-shot things with Wrath. And a lot of those characters in Gen 1 that don't have Pursuit are some of the most fun characters to use in all of FE, IMO, because the fact that they can't double means they can be totally busted in other ways. Lewyn with Pursuit is much more boring, because he doesn't even need to proc a crit or Adept to kill things. And Cuan is one of my favorite units to use, because he has great move, high DEF/HP, and hits like a truck, but still feels fair because he can't double without fairly low-chance Adept proc. In Gen 2, your argument starts to look a little more valid. But even so, I think it's a lot less true than people think. Yes, many of the substitute characters without Pursuit are very underwhelming. But that's by design, and I agree with your later argument that the substitutes should be buffed. And you do that by....just giving the ones that feel that way (like Tristan) the Pursuit skill. You don't need to ruin Gen 1 because there are some bad characters in Gen 2. I can see an argument that Pursuit limits pairings, because some most pairings where the child doesn't get Pursuit aren't very good. I don't personally think this is a very big problem (especially since I think there are a fair number of pursuitless pairings that are actually pretty good -- like I used LachesisxLex in my arenaless/ringless playthrough, and I think it was the best pairing I could have done in that context), but if you wanted to fix it, removing Pursuit entirely isn't a good solution. I would propose instead that you get a few items in Gen 2 that are specifically designed to be good for characters without Pursuit. Maybe have a sword that has 25MT and and grants +10DEF when held, but has 25 weight for instance. Or a weapon that straight up grants Pursuit when equipped, or just giving an extra Pursuit Band in Gen 2. And probably the biggest point against removing Pursuit -- it would require a total rebalance of the entire game. Because it isn't just player units that can have Pursuit, but also the enemies. For example, the way the game is balanced right now, removing Pursuit means Johan and Johalvier get doubled by most everything that doesn't have an axe. By removing Pursuit, you are actually making those already bad units worse, rather than helping them. The game is balanced around different weapons having drastically different weights, and it really doesn't work when enemies all have Pursuit. And it promotes strategy -- the axemen in the Prologue are designed to be exactly one-rounded by Alec + Noish, which means hitting them with Alec first, then Noish to avoid a counter, ideally. If Alec and Noish both double, that goes out the window. 2. Your "Path of the Crusader" idea. This is one of those ideas that sounds really cool in theory. Because it is a cool idea...if it's implemented well. And the problem is that it's an idea that is incredibly, incredibly difficult to implement in a way that would actually be fun. First of all, you'd be restricting yourself to only additive changes when trying to make the game more difficult. Normally, a well designed Hard mode will move or change existing enemies in order to make previously simple simple solutions no longer workable. It's possible to do this just by adding things, but it's harder. Second, a normal FE game has maybe 1-4 difficulty modes, but you are essentially trying to create (if my math is right) 4095 different possible difficulty settings. Trying to make every single combination of difficulty feel meaningfully different while still playing well sounds nearly impossible to me. You could argue that the player will be able to experiment with the various buttons and figure out for themselves a way that plays in a way they enjoy. But...How's the player supposed to know how to do that? You are essentially saying that the player has to blindly trial and error until they find a configuration that's fun, and that trial and error process itself probably isn't going to be fun. Third, the maps in FE4 are themed around fighting specific factions. If you power up Tordo in the Prologue, where you are fighting axemen and hunters from Verdane...What would that even do? Are random Thunder mages going to show up? That would feel really out of place, considering how closely FE4 ties classes to specific regions. Would it do nothing until the later chapters where you are fighting Thunder Mages? In that case I don't really see the point of the system in the first place, since few buttons are going to be relevant to most chapters. Might as well just make an ordinary Hard mode then. I was gonna write about some other stuff, but I've already ended up writing a wall of text, and Pursuit is the big thing that I wanted to write about. So some quick things: -I think your units teleporting to seized castles would help a lot to eliminate tedium on the maps. (Though personally, I've never been bothered by FE4's big maps). -You don't talk about this in your video, but one common criticism of FE4 is how horse-centric it is, with mounted units being way better than non-mounted ones. I feel that a mechanic where non-mounted units can hitch rides with the mounted ones could play very well in FE4 (like rescue, though I'm imagining it being initiated by the non-mounted unit, which I think would work better). -Agreed that FE4's arena needs work, but personally I'd vote to just remove it entirely. I've done arenaless runs of FE4, and I like it way better. -One thing I feel should definitely be changed with regard to trading/inventory, is that married units should be able to just freely trade with each other. At least in the castle, though I wouldn't mind on the field either.

This was a great video :) Some of my thoughts: Map size - I think I agree with you here. Though I do think there could be things they do to tone down some of the tedium of travel and such. I'm not sure exactly what, but it definitely seems like they could do something to make it feel better. Trading - Personally I think they need to add trading and probably universal gold. The existing system is just going to be way too confusing and complicated for a lot of people. You wouldn't have to dump the weapon improvements though, probably just balance them. Or maybe even tie it to individual characters rather than the weapons (almost like weapon ranks for specific weapons) Thracia - I'm in agreement here too. They can't really fit that story inside this one. But like you said, I definitely want to see the game adjusted to acknowledge that Thracia exists. As it stands, Thracia kind of retcons some aspects of FE4 and the transition from Thracia to 2nd Gen is a little clunky as a result. It would be cool if they took the events of FE5 into account and reflected them in the 2nd Gen story. Like you said, adding Silas as a playable character, or even just little story bits referencing things that happened in that game. Something to make the two games fit together more cohesively. Arena - I agree with you that they need to change this. That said, I almost think they could just do something along the lines of Three House's arena system? That already worked somewhat similarly to FE4's, just with an item prize at the end (along with some gold) and limited by your action points. I feel like that is kind of the way you do it - don't make it this thing you do with every character, but something you maybe want to bring certain fighters to depending on the lineup. And then the reward is for the player as a whole, not the specific person you brought. Probably even limit how many times per castle you can run it (maybe even only once?). Romance - 100% with you on this. Just take the current rank system they're using and whomever you S rank is who gets married. Ironically Awakening sort of invented the modern version of this to solve this very issue as the game that brought back the mechanic from Genealogy in the first place :D. No need to fix what they already fixed :) A lot of the other stuff I agree with too, other than maybe the 2D sprites thing. I just don't think they're going to do that. Pretending this game was the "next" Fire Emblem (though I'm with you in thinking it's Path of Radiance), they are almost certainly reusing the Three Houses engine. That's just too much of a development time save to not do it. Hopefully they can iron out some of its flaws at least though. And honestly, those bigger maps could look freaking gorgeous in full 3D. I am curious, no matter which game they decide to remake, what happens after? They remade FE1 and immediately followed it with FE3. Echoes didn't really have a connected story so it didn't make sense to follow it with anything. But Path of Radiance, Genealogy of the Holy War, Binding Blade - those all have follow up games. Would they do the next game right after? Or would they wait? I'm actually curious which route they would go.

So often in games you are told by the story that this and that are super powerful fearsome *things*, but those things are then not at all reflected in the actual gameplay. You'll find the legendary super sword of the ancient god king what's-his-name, blessed by the dragons and forged in the fires of hell itself...and it's, at best, a sidegrade to your forged silver sword due to its higher weight, which any dipshit blacksmith can make for 5000 gold + tax. Yes, Holy blood characters are hugely more powerful than non-holy blood charactes. That's the POINT. That is how it should be. Holy weapons have a stupid 30(!) might and +20(!!) to certain stats! Great! You SHOULD be in awe of them and throwing your brave weapons in the trash for them. It's unbalanced, it's unfair, it's totally broken. Good, keep it this way: it's FUN!

Your Path of the Crusader is a fantastic idea. I agree with most points except the dark tones. I don't mind them ^^ What I would like (Christmas list) - expanding backstory for some characters (both allies and enemies) - strategic layer on macro level added to the mechanics (especially for Gen 2): for example, make it worth to save the village located in the corner of the map opposed to your starting castle. If you manage to liberate a map with villages mostly untouched, you get better rewards at the end of chapter (gold / battalions / new characters (pool from FE 5 included)/ XP to be distributed etc), but your liberated regions bring something to the war effort after each chapter. Also, the strenght of a liberated region impacts the number of enemy waves you get in the next chapter (because why should the Empire just wait for the Final battle when they can crush the rebellion at lower stages?). This strenght would depend on your performance on the previous map but also other mechanics (sending off a member of your party to a liberated region to coordinate the rebels force or sending people on submissions for various rewards - those would receive XP and you could call them back if you wish, minus the empire pushing back against each Rebellion bastion). Basically, you need to balance your fighting power with the power of the whole rebellion. What I don't want - integrated class swapping (easy and lazy way to rebalance your party but doesn't make sense on scenaristic level) - you said it but yeah no Avatar, Time travelling, useless subactivities - the development team rushing production and the game not being EPIC Sorry for the long comment. I really liked this video and I agree with pretty much everything you said and made great points. I would like something like octopath's 3d-2d but I doubt FE will do this. Much more likely we'll get an improved version of SOV's engine which I'll be happy with. It'd be kinda hard to explain Manfroy's goal in the game without making it obvious what is going on so I don't they can hide the incest that much. I honestly don't think they'll shy away from the child hunts either since Ishtar and Julius directly refer to it in Heroes. Yeah I basically second this completely. This is the one thing of the gameplay that really should be kept intact. It truly is just a vital part of FE4 that you can't throw away. Personally I don't want castles to be like mini monasteries but instead like SOV villages. It's perfect for the talking to your army thing as well as completely suitable for the castle feature. For arena I'm not sure how to fix the generosity of it while keeping uniqueness to make feel as special of an arena as it did. Yeah. The love system was never really that good anyway lets be honest. We all know that the FE4 remake would benefit from the characterization that comes with supports even though the storytelling could very well also do that but just for some characters and speaking of that,I hope characters like Quan Ethlyn Lachesis Lewyn and Claud to all be more prominent characters as the story at certain points can call for that. There's a lot they can do with the story for the characters and I look forward to that particularly. More on topic,S Supports really are a simple way to do this and all the love points convos can be implemented in the supports. This amen. This is also perfectly said and correct. The only change I want is just to lower Yewfelle's weight and buff the hit. Maybe the weapon skills can be changed too. I really think the game would just break if trading wasn't a thing. It works fine since the game is made around trading not being a thing and youd have to take that stuff out for it to be balanced with unnecessarily putting in trading. Let people complain about it but it doesn't have to be taken out. You know,I've always just thought of FE4 remake having Pursuit like it was a part of the game that had to be kept for FE4 but it really isn't like that and taking it out and normal doubling or having it work towards that is best for unit design. This might sound crazy but I honestly think they should straight up remove Substitutes and if you don't pair first gen units it's automatic like Chrom in Awakening. Just have generic npc dads. Having bad fathers kinda eumalates how your units will feel weaker after not pairing them up. It's because I think the substitutes really take up too much space for simple failsafes. Hell,they're the reason why they ran out of space to male unique sprites and they focus on other things. Yeah no one should have to tell you that putting FE5 in the FE4 remake is a bad idea. Just forget about doing that,IS. I really just want playable Saias. Him and using Valflame would be a great new thing in the remake. Sounds cool but might just end up being in the pile of unbalanced Fire Emblem difficulty modes. Also forget about avatars. And I don't think they will put one in. Even with the pairings since they didn't in SOV and there really wasn't much of reason to not put some kind of S Supports if they wanted to. Also I feel like FE4 of all titles just doesn't the room for some important avatar. Anyway that's all I needed to say so fare well and a very happy 25th anniversary to Genealogy of the Holy War.

I'm not saying I want an avatar, but I think it could work, just don't let them overshadow the other characters. Imagine, you pick a class, maybe a minor holy blood, and maybe a background (mercenary, Chalphy knight, volunteer, etc.) and boom. I'd even say go nuts with NG+ if you want, with multiple playthroughs unlocking enemy only classes and maybe major holy blood. I know that last sentence sounds awful, but that's just NG+, I think it's ok to go off the rails for that. Like Kris but he shuts up

I know next to nothing about FE4 plot (partially because I want to enjoy the game at its fullest if it ever gets remade) but a dumb little idea I have is that they could implement a day/night cycle, in which every, I don’t know, 12 turns a day has passed. Would it affect the gameplay? Absolutely not, but I believe it would make maps feel even more epic: imagine a huge battle that goes on and on for several days, even turns where you basically do nothing but move units around would be more bearable when you think that it’s they moving towards the next group of enemies for 1 hour.

Things I imagined with plot element(s).... -The Deadlords would have semi-familiar faces. At least, to the player. Just like in FE7, when they die, they would smile. -Ethnia and Tailtiu would exist even if Tailtiu doesn't have a child. But if Tailtiu had a child, Ethnia would have become a Deadlord, and it would be implied that Ethnia gave herself up and asked Tailtiu to take care of her (Linda). If Tailtiu remained childless, SHE becomes the Deadlord (So that Ethnia could survive for Linda's sake) and Linda just begs for Tailtiu to forgive her -One thing I would chane is that the Church of Loptous would have been headed by a "Triumvirate" prior to the whole Loptous taking over Julius. Manfroy, Veld, and a third person who would have survived the war and fled to Archanea: this would be Forneus's ancestor. -I imagined the final battle to be its own map - but it would be in three phases. The first phase would be against Julius who is accompanied by a shadow that gives him Bold Stance from FE: Fates. When you defeat him, you hear Julius's voice saying "Thank.... you!". Loptous then consumes the shadow and says "Finally that little brat is gone!". Phase two is just a more empowered Julius. After that, you fight Loptous himself.
