with the joke at the end at first i started laughing which turned to smiling awkwardly, and then genuine discomfort and then panic when he wouldn't stop looking at me
I would love to see a video about movies that “play it too safe.” I like the sentiment of the phrase but would love a more in depth exploration on why and how those movies are like that
Its exactly what it says it is. The movies couldve done more, had they gone into the very clear direction that couldve said something, but due to the nature of what could be said, they just try to play it safe.

As an Algerian fan of you Karsten, from Algiers, it's a pleasure that you enjoyed Battle of Algiers. It is certainly a revolutionary movie that all of us Algerians are very proud of it.
I have been watching Karsten videos pretty consistently for the past year or so and every monthly update video he always says “you guys know me, I’m a huge fan of (insert director or actor I haven’t heard of)”.
I got to watch End of Evangelion in theaters this month and it was the best thing that's ever happened to me. The visuals and the animation on the big screen were obviously amazing but the thing I wasn't expecting was the SOUND! It was so loud that it shook the seats. And hearing Komm Susser Tod on theater speakers was surreal. Incredible. I still can't believe they finally brought it over. They should show it in IMAX next time
@@Frijolero18 both the screenings I went to were PACKED! and they ended up extending the release a few extra days, so hopefully the overwhelming success will encourage them to make it a semi-annual thing like ghibli-fest
Love lies bleeding was amazing. For me the awkwardness of Kristen made so much sense in relation to her character. Also the soundtrack and sound design was phenomenal.
I remember loving Dunston Checks In as a kid. I would rewatch it every day as a child along with other movies like Napoleon Dynamite or Twister for example. (Speaking of Twister hopefully Twisters is good but nothing will top the original)
i saw a lot this month tbh, but my highlights were definitely dune 2 and surprisingly late night with the devil! i hope you get to catch the latter in theatres bc i really want to see what you think!!
I watched this video on my tv, which not only made it difficult to switch off when you stared into my soul but it also made it impossible for me to leave this comment so I had to open my fuckign phone app to say The fact mubi signed off on the ad roll coming after the awkward stare down makes me wanna check them out way more than the pre roll ad
Love 'The Conversation'. My favourite Coppola film. Love your channel. Just one quality of life suggestion. It would be good if you added the year the film was released. It helps for the films we haven't see to have that context. Loves x
I watched Dunston Checks In 4 times in a row on the DVD player in my parents car as we always did driving holidays when I was a kid. They got it out of the bargain bin at Blockbusters. I cherished it, whilst I'm sure it drove them insane.
Probably the best things I saw in March were when I saw all five Indiana Jones movies in a theatre week to week and I also watched The Remains of the Day (1993) and really loved it.
Didn't watch a lot this past month. Started with American Fiction. I thought it was kinda messy but very enjoyable and funny. I don't think it exactly deserved the oscar but I don't think it didn't either. Good movie. Next I watched Dune Part 1, which I had completely avoided until now because I didn't want to have to wait for Part 2. I enjoyed it, though I did feel kinda lost at points. I wasn't exactly in the right mindset when I watched it, should probably rewatch it at some point. Lastly, I rewatched Oppenheimer, which still holds up on repeat viewings. Still impressive that a 3 hour biopic surrounding WWII is one of my favorite movies from last year, nothing about that is the kinda stuff I generally like

bummed you didnt talk about lord shen in kung fu panda 2. honestly stands tall next to tai lung and i think makes the second one really on par with the first
Your ability to write down a concise review of a Kurosawa movie in one minute is seriously amazing. I tried writing down a criticism of any Kurosawa movie I watched and I myself feel like my review gets bloated and comes off pretentious. Inspiring man, thanks.
I fell asleep watching this and immediately woke up when you started staring at the camera so I was just watching you stare at me with no context. That's all I have to say.
If you haven’t already, you should check out some of Jean-Pierre Melville’s filmography. Le Cercle Rouge is my personal favorite and has one of the best heists ever put to screen.
Watched a lot: Tokyo Godfathers Perfect Days Dune 2 (rewatch) Cat Soup Kung Fu Panda 4 Justin Timberlake: FutureSex/LoveShow The After Good Morning (Satoshi Kon short) Love Lies Bleeding Fallen Leaves The Boy and the Heron (rewatch) Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire Immaculate Late Night with the Devil Spider-Within: A Spider-Verse Story Godzilla x Kong Quiet on Set TV: Curb Your Enthusiasm final season🥲 New Abbott Elementary Invincible S2

Loved what you had to say about Punch Drunk Love. It’s my favorite movie ever made, and you somehow find ways to express and verbalize things I struggle to understand or say myself. Great video!
"King Kong's Bra" isn't something I ever thought I'd see in a Karsten video. Out of context it's probably funnier than anything in the actual movie tho
The Battle Of Algiers is a classic. So good that the US Military used this movie as a reference during the Iraq War. I hope I can watch this movie in theaters.
What I watched in March: Dune (2021) 4.5/5 (Rewatch) American Fiction 3.5/5 Ferrari 4/5 Dune Part Two 5/5 Nobody Knows 4.5/5 Ben & Arthur (MASTERPIECE) Rodan (1954) 3/5 Perfect Days 5/5 The Rabbi's Cat 4/5 Empire of Dust 3.5/5 The Turin Horse 3.5/5 Once Upon a Time in Anatolia 4.5/5 The Guard 3.5/5 Submarine 4/5 Together 4/5 Ballad of a Soldier 5/5 Haru (1996) 5/5 Next Goal Wins 2/5 Nothing Last Forever 4/5 Sorry to Bother You 4/5 Wonka 3.5/5 Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom 2/5
I'm a bit late but here's what I watched, Kung Fu Panda (9/10) - _A childhood favorite of mine that still holds up incredibly well. Stellar art direction, good characters, amazing fights and a great soundtrack, it's way better than most people realise._ Kung Fu Panda 2 (8.5/10) - _Although not quite a well paced as the first one, it's still a great sequel that expands the world and gives a much needed emotional background to Po. Also, Lord Shen is the best villian in the franchise/series._ Kung Fu Panda 3 (7.5/10) - _The movie relies a bit too much on plot convenience and lacks the sense of urgency until like the last 30 minutes. The fights aren't all that memorable either which is a bummer. Nevertheless, I enjoyed it quite a bit and it has some really good individual moments sprinkled in._ Frieren: Beyond Journey's End, Season 1 (9.5/10) - _It takes an unique concept and turns it into a profound and thought-provoking experience that I haven't felt in a while. If you're looking for a great traditional fantasy then this is a must watch._ Shōgun episodes 1-7 (8.5/10) - _I got around watching it solely based on the positive reception it got and so far it's really good. The production values and set pieces are off the charts, the cinematography is beautiful and the performances are great especially Hiroyuki Sanada and Anna Sawai. Only three more episodes left to go and if all goes well it has the potential to be an all timer, only time will tell._ Alright! That's it. See you next month.
This may be a weird suggestion, but if you liked Cailín Ciúin Karsten, I seriously recommend the short film Cáca Milis ("Cake"), its free on youtube with our dear lord Brendan Gleeson praise be. Any exposure to Irish film is much needed exposure, and after my country's education system forcing this upon my poor traumatised eyes, I would like to find some way of coping by spreading that trauma to the rest of the world. Its great, and so is this video, great work as always 😌👍
