I’m glad I found your channel. I’m still a little ways out from applying to a CRNA program. I’ve been an ICU nurse for six years. I’m married with two kids. My husband and I have been discussing how we’re going to swing this adventure. We’re confident in the financials, more concerned about the logistics. The closest program to me is an hour away.

Average student loan interest rate is 5-7.5% (per google/Bankrate, depending upon the type of loan.). The S&P averages about 10% return annually. If you have the cash to pay for school, use it. Don't take out loans. At BEST, you're making 5%, and that's BEFORE taxes. Considering the state of the economy, you're realistically not getting 5%. Factor in the risk of the market over a 3'ish year CRNA program (i.e. a small sample size of market time horizon), and your idea of investing your cash/taking out loans vs paying cash for your program is more likely than not to at best break you even, but more likely to cost you money. Pay cash, be done with it.
Ok Im doomed 😅 Im an introverted loner . I have always relied on myself my whole life as a product if foster care. Been on my own since I turned 18. The get-to know-your-cohort thing will be extremely challenging. as far as the faculty portion I mean there’s nothing really you can do. What can you do ???I am not a kiss ass never have never will, I think most faculty are just looking for someone, respectful, and someone who put in the work . But thank you for the information I look forward to watching your videos. I have learned so much . Two more months until I start!!!! 💪🏾
Hey! Thanks for watching. I will say this- this has been my experience, and probably not everyone's (what I said in the video about working as a team etc). I think if you are independent as a person and can take on new things (obviously you can if you got in to CRNA school), I think you should be fine regardless. I know how much having other members of my cohort has helped me, though. And yes you are right about the faculty- there is not much you can do. However, just be respectful is what it comes down to. Don't get off on a bad foot immediately, or be seen as the problem child- bc you will be spending 3 years together lolol. Thanks again for watching! Where are you going to school?
I am self reliant to a fault, very much a lone wolf, but being with a small group of people with the same highly difficult goal seems like a dream. Id definitely find my people at CRNA school. See you there in like 7 years 😁🤣
Hi David, One of the things that worry me about CRNA school is the actual structure of the program. How would you say that classes are arranged and sequenced. Do you feel like you're building appropriate skills, and they are building upon each other?
Hi! First, thanks for watching the video! Good question you bring up- I feel that, in my program, classes are arranged in a logical manner. We started with anatomy, and basic principles stuff, and each quarter we really added on to what we learned in the prior quarter. Nothing ever went away- we just built on what we had already learned.
Hello David, I am too a NP currently at Urgent Care for almost 3 years. I am contemplating about going back to school into CRNA. I am looking at National University in Fresno, CA. Is that your school? I live in Northern Cal. I don't have any ICU experience but I have been a RN for 7 years with last 2 years working fulltime and in NP school fulltime. The only thing is I don't have is ICU experience. I'm not sure if going back to being an RN is something I really want to do. However, if that is the only way getting into CRNA, than I am willing to. How big are your class size? What are some of the reasons you decided to go back into school for CRNA? Your inputs is greatly appreciated.
Hey Chor. Thanks for watching! I am at NU in Fresno now. It is an excellent program. But yes- you will need ICU/critical care experience before applying. You can get this either by RN in the ICU, or NP in the ICU. I'm not sure what flavor of NP you are, but you could consider working as a NP in the ICU (if you are ACNP).
