In today's Europa Universalis IV (EU4) video we will be revoking the privilegia for the Emperor of the Holy Roman Empire, the HRE, Austria. The von Habsburgs will rule over Germany, Bavaria, Northern Italy, and the Lowlands from 1444 onward, and we will see what they do with this incredible power given to them.

HRE, Papal state and china are all very hard coded. You can change their text and all, but you can't have two of them in the game.

To be honest, the split between Austria and Germany only really came up over the last 80 years. Up until 1900 I think most Austrians would have loved the idea of a united Germany with its capital in Vienna.

You speak German, you’ve been politically a part of a German state for as long as one has existed, literally back to the treaty of Verdun in 843 AD. The Anschluss was in 1938 and until then, the anti-German sentiment was very predominant in Austria, although that sentiment might have had something to do with the fear of Naziism and fashism. However, after the Anschluss had happenend, most Austrians very quickly changed attitude and became nazi collaborators, so there is some truth to your comment.

The problem with this Austria/Germany thing is that German is used for the ethnicity and the nationality, and people have been conflating them ever since Austria's demise as a European power. Austrians are Germans but they're not Germans. It's weird, see? They're Germanic people, not German citizens. That distinction is important.
