WHAT IF CODY STAYED IN AEW? Reacting to Wrestling What Ifs

Cody came back to WWE at THE most absolute perfect time. Think about what wouldn’t have happened had he stayed in AEW: - The incredible WM38 return - Awesome feud with Rollins - Immediately epic Hell in the Cell match - 2023 Rumble return & win - Great, first Roman / Bloodline storyline - That major heartbreak (and surprising) loss at WM39 - Epic program with Lesnar - WarGames - 2024 Rumble build up with Punk - 2024 Rumble win - The drama around facing Roman or Seth - And now, The Rock Cody is living every professional wrestler’s dream type of path to culminate at WM40 and then be the reason for one of those moments that will go down in WM history. Even if he’d stayed just 1 more year, the timing may had never fallen into place for ANY of that above. I think it also proves that when he came back to WWE, it’s been the plan from the moment he returned at WM38, he was going to be the one that Roman passed the torch to,

What if Hulk Hogan never came into wrestling? Steven Larsen would be working at Del taco.

If Cody Rhodes stayed in AEW then it probably would be Sami Zayn last year. As far as AEW maybe win the tag titles with his brother, definitely would have feuded with CM Punk and possibly prevented the All Out Brawl, get ROH on TV and appear on that show, and possibly find a way to become AEW Champion or at the very least challenge for that title once it becomes vacant.

There would have been one level headed EVP there at the time of All Out 2022, which would have either prevented Punk from losing his patience entirely, or at least prolonged it more.

If Cody doesn’t leave AEW, honestly they would’ve just had Roman beat Bruno’s record since they had no babyface to challenge.

Sean O'Haire would have basically been early Bray Wyatt if his Devil's Advocate character took off. No magic powers but the same kind of verbose cult leader with a gang of Droogs.

Cody had the ultimate heel character he couldve played in AEW and been a world champion. Imagine the current EVP gimmick with the Bucks Okada Cody and maybe MJF. They couldve dominated. But Cody genuinely is made for that spot he is in right now. And he seems to be living his childhood dreams which is pretty cool. Looking forward to seeing Cody get his moment.

He would have eventually have had to finally go heel. But the Codyverse would also continue to be a thing. He would have somehow managed to challenge for and win the AEW title im sure. Him leaving though was up there with leaving WWE in 2016, that being one of the smartest decisions he has ever made.

a positive spin to Still Elite Cody Rhodes: he'd (again) become ROH World Champion and he'd be part of this story with EVP Bucks and Okada... after a couple years of struggling to keep Cody Island interesting.

I still remember that random tag match on Dynamite where some fan threw Cody’s weight belt back into the ring as he didn’t want it. The fans just wanted him to be heel, and unless Cody embraced that they would’ve rejected the Codyverse to this day

Of Cody stays. I believe AEW would be in a way better place. I think he would have been world champ a couple of times. Him and CM Punk would've had a moster feud for the belt

I feel Cody leaving was the beginning of the end for AEW. I said it then and its even more prevalent now. If Cody never left there would still be leader ship in AEW. The booking and stories took a total shit after Cody left. So did locker room morale.

Gotta assume someone else would be the guy, i dont like cody as a babyface in any company, he was the 1st big aew guy to go back at a time they company needed a top babyface he was lucky enough to get injured at the right time. Im.sure time will tell but I think once he has the title and the bloodline pivot away from him people will feel the same fatigue he had in aew.

It'd be more NWA territory and less GCW with a budget.... I like both though. WWE has kinda gone that way and AEW wouldn't be as criticized if people looked at it just as gcw with money. I don't want it to go anywhere i like having wrestling Mon -sat every day after work load up my"water pipe" pour a little whiskey maybe crack a beer feed my Pitt bull mutt ginger reheat pizza (best part of working at a small town ma and pa pizza shop) and watch wraslin as grandpa would say and without AEW we'd get no Wednesday or weekly well mostly weekly Saturday wrestling. I can appreciate and be entertained by a good match that has little to no story (it's a sport after all) and like the Broadway esuqe story based stuff. It's all good to me and if you can make me cry and burst a lung laughing in the same show something WWE and AEW can have and will do then I'll watch every week.

Cody would still main event if Vince was in charge. He sees value in Cody. Heck, he was the one who brought him back
