It’s basically the reverse of the phantom manor storyline where now the wife to be was tragically killed by a member of his family who didn’t approve of their relationship
It still hurts my soul that we'll never get the Guillermo Del Toro version💔 rewatching the movie many times I know it isn't a great film, but I absolutely loved the movie when I was little. My parents also enjoyed watching it with me, i just wish they would've dealt more with the ghosts.
This was fun! I really like this What If series. It is hard to imagine the ride getting changed, but when you stop to think about how this is the same time period as the Pirates movie and they threw Johnny Depp all through that thing… just imagine animatronic Eddie Murphys (Murphies?) all over the place! 😂
Luckily, I doubt they would ever remove Madame Leota, she was one of the original imagineers that worked on the rides, and her daughter is also one of the head (pun intended ;) ) imagineers at Disney, she reprises the role her mother did for the holiday version of ride.
Speaking of nightmare scenarios, can you do "What If...'Home on the Range' was a hit and took over Big Thunder Mountain Railroad?" (It did take over Big Thunder Ranch temporarily in reality.)
One detail from the 03 movie did make it into the ride. Panther lady portrait in the movie was changed into a portrait of a woman turning tigress woman (not a white tigress but tigress nonetheless) soon after that the ride changed panther lady to tiger lady and it’s remained since
I actually enjoy the movie,..saw the premiere in Hollywood. After the movie, walked thru the sets backstage at El Capitan,it was impressive. Thank ‘Walt’that they didn’t do a layover with Eddie Murphy in the Mansion,.that would have sucked.X
Have you seen Channel Awesome’s version based on the Disney Paris version “Phantom Manor,” that connects it to Big Thunder Mountain? I thought that one was kind of fun
And why not? We want a good haunted Mansion and this maybe the one we wanted. I just hope they make enough resources and money for a possible sequel lol.
I didn’t mind working in Jack sparrow into the ride but I guess I’m not as attached to the original concept of the pirates of the Caribbean ride as I am the haunted mansion ride. The pirates movies have a sense of identity and a sense of control in terms of tone (for the most part) The haunted mansion movie with its out of control sense of tone and where and when to apply humor for the sake of stakes. The shoe horned moral really didn’t help either
This is why I was so excited over ten years ago when the Del Toro project was announced, and why I'm so heartbroken that Disney decided to give up on it and go the family comedy route AGAIN for the new movie instead. I'm just praying that even if the movie in March is good that they don't make changes to the mansions. This stupid ghost house has been my comfort blanket since I was a literal toddler, and I'd hate to see Owen Wilson and Danny DeVito shoved in there like Geoffrey Rush and Johnny Depp.
I think the Haunted Mansion’s schizophrenic genesis as an attraction itself makes finding a solid, dependable, logical, and compelling storyline difficult. It’s easy for me when I’m not the one being tasked to come up with the narrative and plot to sit in judgment of those who have tried. It’s easy to criticize; it’s much more difficult to propose an alternative solution(s). Despite the original movie’s weak storyline and questionable casting, it DID bear some very bankable fruit in its set design, costuming, and visual effects IMHO. If I could afford to have that mausoleum moved into my backyard, I would. OMG, that thing was incredible! I’m looking forward to this year’s July release of Disney’s 2nd attempt, though I must admit that I had the same reaction as I did to the 1st when I heard Owen Wilson and Danny DeVito were two of the headliners. I like the thought of Jamie Lee Curtis as Madame Leota and Jared Leto as the Hatbox Ghost, but again we should not forget the main character whose name appears in the title: the Mansion itself. I’m hoping that Disney was able to maintain the original’s visual impact while lifting the quality of the story and plot to the same level. If they can do THAT, then they'll have a hit on their hands but that’s a VERY high bar to hit...
Like hopefully this new haunted mansion movie will be better received and more successful then the Eddie Murphy movie and that it be another mario movie scenario where the second adaptation does better than the first cause you have a similar scenario with the Mario movie where they’re making a second movie adaptation of a popular ip made years later after the first attempt to do so was both a critical and financial failure
Having an AA of Eddie Murphy, and his annoying laugh, would have made me lose interest in the attraction. I would love to see the loading area redone, as you described.
I don't exactly hate this movie, not like how some fans have. I love The Haunted Mansion attraction and its different iterations. I still wish we could get that Guillermo del Toro led vision. But this movie didn't ruin the ride or possible future adaptations for me. Partly because the 2003 movie came out at a fomrative period for me, so nostalgia plays a role in this. There are some good sequences and changes that came from the movie. The addition of the evil manipulative head butler in Ramsley was intersting for me. The theory that Master Gracey was the Ghost Host and Hatchet Man didn't really makes much sense to me. Why would the master of the house give a tour of the house to a bunch of plebeians and commoners? Wouldn't the master have outsourced that to their butler or another servant? That's why I liked the idea of Ramsley. Other additions like the maid and coachman characters were needed to fit a film structure, so I don't mind that too much. Madame Leota played by Jennifer Tilly was great in my opinion. My only regret was she wasn't allowed to do anything beyond the script. Jennifer Tilly has great sardonic timing. She was Bride of Chucky for a reason. That's why giving her the role of Leota made sense. She was a psychic/medium/witch trapped in a mansion she worked in. What's a gal to do (literally)? So writing her that way was a good change.
Oh don’t worry, I love me some Owen too. Just not sure he brings the right vibe for a “scary” movie. They also cast Danny Devito and Tiffany Haddish so it’s definitely going the more comedy route.
Your ideas on what from the movie would be added to the ride are better than the ones from this videos: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-aJllm5y2p7s.html
It was pretty widely panned when it came out. I view it more as a guilty pleasure. The sets, costumes and Terrance Stamp’s performance make it worth watching.
