He was serious during the Classic era. Then Hyper Sonic came around and he was like “Well, if Sonic can become Hyper at anytime, why go too serious again?”

The Answer: He would be just like SATAM Egg man

If eggman was serious he'd be all like. "Behold, my floating masterpiece: 12 egg carriers."

Eggman knocks them out outside of the casino, takes the emeralds, then pulls out his glock.

It's funny how in Unleashed, Eggman literally had the perfect set-up/plan to finish Sonic in the very intro, and probably his most genius plan ever potentially. Bait Sonic into the main chamber of his flagship and trick them with begging/pleading ala Dr. Wily....and then seal them in a device that drained them of all chaos energy, transform them into what he assumed was a monstrous beast that had no chance of being fast again to take away Sonic's one defining strength, and then open the window to fling Sonic out of the ship and HURTLING TOWARDS THE EARTH at terminal velocity assuming Sonic wouldn't survive re-entering the atmosphere or the landing either, or couldn't survive the vacuum of space with no oxygen. And even if Sonic landed in the ocean, even better because Eggman knew by then Sonic was hilariously bad at handling water. In other words, Sonic should have in all rights/ways died and Eggman would have left the entire planet in pieces while he got his Eggmanland dream realized forever. And 100% either plot armor or Chip unaware somehow saving Sonic last second is the ONLY reason Sonic didn't die then and there.

If Eggman was serious in every sonic game then Sonic would logically get serious as well which means he wouldn’t show as much mercy to Eggman as he normally does which could/would eventually lead to Sonic killing him. Sonics not as nice in the classic games as he is in the modern games, he tried to blow up his eggmoblie in Sonic 1, in the bad ending of Sonic CD he throws a rock at him to stop him from getting away with a time stone which could’ve killed him, he leaves him to die in the death egg in Sonic 2 and leaves him to die in space in Sonic 3&k, in Sonic pocket adventure he attacks Eggman while he is pleading for mercy, if we use sonic unleashed one of the later games as a example, Eggman is shown to be visually afraid of Sonic when he’s attacking his Eggmoblies glass window so imagine that but with a more aggressive and pissed off Sonic. So in this scenario Eggman would be dealing with a much more serious Sonic who wouldn’t fall for his tricks and would hold back a lot less against him. If the mad scientist went too far in the later games like killing Knuckles in sa1 or maybe Tails & Amy in sa2 then Sonic would just kill him as he would be see as irredeemable in his eyes and would try to stop him for good. It’s a misconception that Sonic doesn’t kill, in s&tbk Sonic is ok with killing King Arthur before he even knew he was a demon of the underworld, he doesn’t kill people that he believes can be redeemed but if he doesn’t believe you can then he’ll stop at nothing to defeat you, he did with knuckles & shadow until he learned they were good he was fighting to defeat them at all costs, same with chaos he only tried to save him once he found out his heart was tainted by anger & hate. He didn’t do that for the biolizard or Neo Metal Sonic or Dark Gaia or The End because he saw them as irredeemable and didn’t hold back on them so if Eggman went full evil then Sonic would do the exact same thing to him. Also way to overhype the egg hawk, one of the easiest bosses in the game and not the egg alrbaross which was in rail canyon and is a upgrade of the egg hawk which couldn’t kill Sonic either and Neo Metal Sonic was piloting it while pretending to be Eggman so Sonic would probably find a way to beat him as well if Metal is behaving like Eggman, he would also have his weaknesses like his overconfidence and his arrogance when things don’t go his way which could lead him to get frustrated and thus easier to defeat. Also also if Sonic was written to be more serious throughout the whole series then he wouldn’t fall for Eggmans trick in Sonic unleashed which means he wouldn’t die at the beginning. so we’re not gonna make sonic stupid but we’re gonna make sonic not change up his tactics to match his increasing dangerous enemy and just have him get one shot, yeah that’s makes sense…if you don’t think about it. Not to mention that if everyone else acts like Eggman is the same one from the canon and looming threat that he has become it makes them look kinda stupid and naive. It makes the story feel forced for everything to go the same way (besides a few changes) only for everyone to lose instantly with no resistance which just feels unrealistic and underwhelming in my opinion.

In the Japanese manual it's actually stated that Sonic and Eggman have already fought several times even before that game's events.

In the archie comics, he was ALWAYS serious (at least, he was after Flynn took over.) He burned Knothole village to the ground in issue 175, and very nearly won. In issue 200 sonic beat him so badly that he completely lost his mind, and he was a mindless, rambling mess for the next 9 issues. He only came back to his senses once he started viewing sonic as “the constant inconsistency,” hence the phrase “chaos is the constant” that he started uttering to himself

If Eggman was willing to just kill sonic and be done with it, this should be his strategy: 1. Catch Sonic by surprise 2. Release sleeping gas 3. Once Sonic is unconscious shoot him to death

I grew up on Adventure 2 Eggman. Bro was PISSED after the Chaos debacle. He was literally about to wipe the whole ass US off the map with the Eclipse Cannon. But then Heroes came along and started planting the seeds for goofy, bumbling Eggman

To be fair I think Eggman *was* serious in Sonic 3&K but after going toe to toe with Hyper Sonic(Super if you're Sega) while wielding the power of the Master Emerald both realised how destructive that approach could be and seeing Sonic beating multiversal gods certainly must have reinforced that to him even though he *has* contingencies if he is forced to go serious against Sonic(like the machine he used to drain the power of Super Sonic)

But due to his grandfather plan, Mephiles scheming and Infinite not destroying every fake ruby and even losing one, he lost... then again, by technicality he did helped during Adventure 2 and 06 finales so that means he wins in them? Either way, yeah. Edit: Forgot about Unleashed. Guy went bonkers there and only lost due having to deal with Werehog.

One thing you didn't address was the fact that Omega probably wouldn't exist if his E series were actually successful since he wouldn't likely feel the need to improve them any further without them having been all destroyed. Or if he did, he may not end up as a hero character because eggman may have actually used him this time.

Archie Sonic Issue #175. Carpet bombs Knothole, takes everyone prisoner and beats the living shit out of Sonic in a battlesuit specifically designed to counter his speed. Sonic runs across a continent and back in seconds, hits Eggman's shield and only dents it. Sonic definitively loses this fight. Eggman actually could have just killed him if he had wanted to. The only reason the group wins is because he just so happened to miss Amy, Tails, Knuckles and Nicole during the fight.

There's even a what if eggman died after the events of sonic heroes, then Doctor Starline would take over the Eggman Empire and use many of his old canceled projects and other resources to take advantage of and focus less on the mythical entities. This would definitely push all the hero teams to the limit ,Always being one step ahead of them. Well having an elite unit of badnix and androids by his side.

A couple things I don’t understand. 1. Where did Neo Metal Sonic magically pull the resources out of his ass to build all these Egg Hawks and pilot them with Egg Robos? By this logic, there’s no reason that Eggman couldn’t have ambushed Sonic during the classic era with all of his boss mechs (with some Egg Robos) at the same time. Even if we go with your version of events with Sonic being overwhelmed, he’d likely just, you know, retreat and fight Neo another day-likely with the rest of the Emeralds in tact. 2. Eggman already intended to seriously kill Sonic in Unleashed by throwing him to the Earth and it may have worked if Chip didn’t save him. I’m pretty sure the draining laser was already out of energy by that point and Eggman didn’t seem to have any other weapons or mechs in the immediate vicinity. Good luck beating the Werehog in a fistfight. Lastly, I think CD would’ve been a better jumping off point. If Eggman had focused all his efforts on collecting all the Time Stones (instead of planting Generators and building Metal Sonic), he’d have the ability to control time itself. Even if that power is limited to just Little Planet, he could still turn the place into a deadly permanent fortress that Sonic could not easily destroy.

Good thought process, although I don't think it does take Sonic and friends into the eggquation. Since a more serious eggman would require a more serious sonic, and a serious sonic would be a bigger threat to eggman than a serious eggman would be for the entire series.

My least favorite part about modern sonic robots, is they are weak, they don’t even move, they stand still and wait for sonic to dash into them, I wish they could dodge and actually use their weapons

I know this isn't necessarily related to the "Serious Eggman" stuff, but due to Metal Overlord killing everyone and conquering the world in this AU, it got me wondering about how the Black Arms invasion would play out. The most likely possibility is that after Black Doom and his army descend upon Earth, they are all swiftly defeated by Metal Overlord since he's crazy powerful. It could be possible that Black Doom escapes and returns to the Black Comet, though I'm not sure if the comet could return to deep space before Metal Overlord finds and destroys it.

You glossed over Casinopolis Sonic and Tails die there if the cutscene is anything to go by Eggman gets the drop on them and knocks them out with sleeping gas. He just leaves them there in-game, but if he was intent on actually ridding himself of Sonic, it'd be very easy to kill him Though if you want to say that in a universe where Eggman was that ruthless Sonic would've been more alert and wouldn't have let him get the drop on him like that, I suppose that's fair enough

We’ve seen serious Eggman and that’s in pre-genesis Archie. The Eggman we’re used to isn’t even the main Eggman in those comics. He comes from another dimesion where he literally nukes the face of the planet and kills EVERYONE. He goes to the main universe because he has nothing to do after killing Sonic and the freedom fighters of his world. The only reason he doesn’t just immediately kill the main universe Sonic and co. instantly is because he wanted to savor his victory against them this time. Thus leading to his many defeats that he could easily avoid lol

I know the reason from the serious Sonic video, but what about all of the games between 3&K and Adventure?

I remember joking with a friend when I was young about the various ways he could have killed Sonic if he REALLY wanted to. That said, without the last Chaos Emerald, the Eclipse Canon could have still been used for a target attack, although it might take longer to recharge. A targeted attack makes more sense than just blowing up the planet, even just having badniks destroy any remaining suitable launch sites and forcing continents to just sit there and wait for the next strike one by one. Even just obliterating the US expy could cause a global catastrophe, both political and ecological. Also note that GUN never seems to deal with Robotnik, even when he's literally building a Death Star knock off.

Not to bash on your video or anything, but there are three main writing flaws I want to critique, just as a bit of helpful criticism. First up, if you’re keen on saying that Sonic is getting the treatment of being no fool and being able to dodge traps and tricks like any sane person, wouldn’t the same be applied to Knuckles? I know you’re treating this as though it were a story-story and not something for a video game, but Knuckles is a trained warrior and guardian of the most powerful relic in Sonic’s world, I’m decently sure he’d at least try to dodge out of the way of enemy fire if he heard the sounds of the Emerald breaking. You could even have him pull a daring escape, one only visible from his perspective of the story and reveal his not-death later one as a semi-deus ex machnia plot twist. Idk whether in Sonic Adventure 1 or 2, maybe he pops out with a last second plot device/saving grace like another chaos emerald he kept hidden away or the local of Eggman’s shuttle, but still. Second, how can Neo Metal even happen without Knuckles? I’m not too familiar with Heroes so forgive my misknowledge, but you said he needed the data of Team Sonic, which in this game is Sonic, Tails, & Knuckles. I suppose Amy might be able to take Knuckles’ place, but she’s already got her own team. And either way wouldn’t Sonic & Tails not as easily fall for Neo Metal’s trap? This one is admittedly a weaker point of contention, but still, there’s definitely a way for the heroes to win here. Which brings me to… Eggman in Heroes; he would be absolutely furious. Like especially when we take the Egghead from this vid, he should be able to reluctantly help the heroes no problem. We know he’s got an established connection to the outside from the canon Chaotix story and we KNOW that he’s now willing to do whatever it takes to defeat Neo, especially if it means Eggman himself is the one to rule instead of a robot. You cannot tell me the genius who’s lost every single time to the blue hedgehog when faced with something that could threaten to destroy both Eggman and Sonic & friends that Eggman wouldn’t be willing to put aside his differences with the rodents even if it’s for a Bowser esc reason of “no one conquers this place but me”. Idk, just some thoughts I figured i might share, do as you will with them I just wanted to provide a few thoughts I had while watching.

I haven't watched this video but I have a few reasons as to why Sonic is mostly victorious against Eggman 1. All of his machinery follow a "least to greatest" in how deadly they are. he always saves the strongest, most formidable ones for last which is what bites him in the ass every time when sonic collects a chaos emerald, ALWAYS managing to destroy them one by one. eggman could have put a stop to sonic quite easily if he had used his most deadly machinery first, sonic would be dead. 2. Most of eggman's machines have a vulnerable spot which allows sonic home on. Like with the adventure games, you ALWAYS have to aim at weak spots, you can't physically destroy the armor or do anything against them. if eggman used the machines which don't have this weakness, he would have won quite easily 3. like with the first point, sonic always beats eggman because of the chaos emeralds he collects. and for some reason, eggman ALWAYS plays it fair because if sonic doesn't collect the seven chaos emeralds, he never decides to use any machines that can mop the floor out of a chaos emerald powered sonic. eggman is so weird

Would he have been able to make all the MK.2's? We know Eggman has alot of resources, but the reason his machines suck is likely due to some budgetary reasons. Same with Metal Sonic in your thought experiments, alot more resources are eventually used. Other then that, if we're saying Sonic is also Serious, why dosent he kill Eggman? Yes it's not something he'd want to do. However if we are being realistic, I think Sonic would stop and realize "I had to become a omnipotent God (Hyper Sonic) to beat this guy once, the longer he lives the more if a risk he is."

The IDW comics explored Eggman's shortcomings. Even in a realistic setting, Eggman would still have those problems.

Archie/IDW comics Eggman is a fusion of serious and whimsical. Especially in Archie, where he's basically already won the war, and he just keeps having little games with Sonic and the freedom fighters for fun, but he could realistically obliterate them whenever he wants. (Archie Eggman is my fave Eggman)

I’m not sure if it would be realistically possible for all of the E-series to be upgraded. I mean think about it, it took multiple days just to upgrade one of them. Imagine how long it would take to modify all of them to have a new form. Not to mention Eggman would have to run trials to see if there’s new MK2 form is even successful, since it comes across as beta MK2 didn’t even have his trial runs completed in sonic adventure. On top of that you have to think about resource management. Eggman is building an army, so they can’t all get the special advanced armament. I mean that’s why Eggman still uses Egg-Pawns instead of building an army of Omega’s; why have a handful of super tough soldiers when you can have a practically endless supply of decent soldiers. It’s actually been stated that for every one robot sonic destroys multiple more are being built (this was stated in team sonic racing) which means that although a lot of the machines may be crap sonic will never be able to whittle down the numbers due to the cut corners Eggman uses With that being said it would be cool to see what they would all look like in their MK2 forms, even if they’re just color swaps of beta
