Great job guys. As a 30 year veteran photographer I can tell you that shooting film teaches you so much more than shooting digital. I shoot digital for clients but much of my persona work is film. Keep up the good work!

If you develop your own film and buy bulk film in eBay it's not that bad at all. You just gotta be careful with how you use your shots.
@jayzn1931

@@Bpat456 You could also just use Presets or JPGs :P no difference to choosing a film (style). But I personally like creating my own look.

The shot on the left tho, amazing capture. I think of all the top tier film photo RU-vidrs i.e. Verbeeck, Negative Feedback, GrainyDays, Vuhlandes, Analog Resurgence/Things, Matt Day etc, Radical Eye has some of the best captured poses and shots of people on film. Fantastic work as always, ready to see this update.

3:24 And when you get the photos (scans) back from (from the lab) it's like Christmas every single time ...Agree! Until you open the folder and see that either you missed focus on half of the roll... or the lab did a poor quality scan
@GibsonLucille
@GibsonLucille 3 года назад
It's so easy and so much cheaper to do it at home that it doesn''t make sense to use labs unless it's a very important project!
@badbenjy

You won't find many people using film who don't process themselves. Its not hard and gives you a lot of creative control.
@someonewithsomename
@someonewithsomename 3 года назад
nah, guys. Most people shooting film are using labs. But I actually bought myself a scanner to make colours the way I want them to be.
@badbenjy
@badbenjy 3 года назад
@@someonewithsomename ok so maybe I should have said. Of all the people I know who shoot film... And that's a lot... 95% process our own film, including me. Of those people, about half then use a hybrid process and finish digitally and the rest print their own stuff too. Personally I scan so I can do kind of like a digital contact sheet, select what I want to work on then print in the darkroom.

Beautiful video. The feeling described by Alex, I certainly have experienced the same path. Going with digital and being all techy in the younger days to preferring film now and in general less gear. These days, I see myself gravitating towards portraits due to the interaction with the subjects too. Yeah I completely agree. It is more satisfying, it is slow and the results are always surprising but hell, c'est la vie...

To those saying shooting film is expensive. It is NOT if you consider: a) With film you can work with the same camera and gear for many many years. Whereas, if you shoot digital, you end up buying a new camera every year or two (maybe just for peer pressure o because you are always looking for the perfect digital camera that can simulate film's color structure). How many rolls of films can you buy with the price of a high-end full-frame camera? B) Good film-camera prices go up each year or at least they keep the value -since none are being made. Digital cameras devaluate faster than cars.

What if you just shoot film? You limit yourself to customers with that time frame and that budget. For someone getting five figures a day with a staff that can be processing and scanning, the customers may not care if material costs increase ten fold. Same goes for very small one offs where you fold expenses into your fee and and deliver the finished work a week later. There is content which is less viable with film (and was problematic before DSLRs existed including fast action sports, indoors in very low light) but the job done- expertise , money and control over the content evens that out. Lastly, film production requires a level of precision that modern digital medium survives easily without - just bump that exposure slider 1.5 stops during conversion.
