I just realized this hypothetical Sonic game had practically no Sonic in it and I think that's a good choice. I don't dislike Sonic or anything, but the idea of other characters getting to save the world- even if it is an audience/player-insert, which I still don't particularly like as a storytelling choice but it's not a deal breaker -makes the universe feel more lively and developed than it just being a shiny rock for the main hero to protect. At least, that's how I look at it.

That scene where Nil is attacked by Shadow... actually made me sad. Nil went to invade Eggman's base with the promise of returning to Hero and was confronted by the black hedgehog, but as soon as Nil discovered Shadow wasn't with Eggman, he was immediately beat down, only to be fpind by Eggman and be turned into Infinite. That's an excellent way to make a sad backstory, where everything changed just because of a misundertanding

Quick idea:After you beat the game, a species called “Jackal” should be added. It’s special perk is to have a built in sensor to Prototype Shards and a special “Sword” Wispon that uses Red Gem capsules to work.

I really like the Majora’s Mask twist with Infinite, using his ruby shards to construct a new being. Not only does that allow Infinite to remain the antagonist, but it gives a twist with the final boss so it’s not just “Infinite but again”, it’s a new and unique enemy, yet still the main antagonist. Plus, it lets Nil be reintroduced into the story, and gives him time to express his character after being Infinite (specifically when he talks about his feelings of failure). It also makes sense from a story perspective as to how Nil’s is still alive, with Infinite being a possessive entity that took his body. Overall, this whole rewrite was incredibly well written, and I think it could really go places. If you could assemble a team, I’m sure you could spearhead a fantastic game, whether it was a Sonic game or not, the levels of creativity here are off the charts

Thanks dude! I'm glad you really liked it! Also Infinite was less of his own entity, qnd more of a multiple personality that developed after the brainwashing. Infinite was Nil and Nil was Infinite sort of, but without all his memories the anger and power warped the new persona. I was really happy with that twist tbh, it made it a lot more fun that just having Nil come back to his senses.

Garrulous64 Whoa, that’s even cooler! I think that gives Overclocked Infinite more meaning too, using it’s hatred power up. It’s a really well-made final boss, kinda like the classic Sonic games; they’re still Robotnik, but he’s different each time. Props to you man, you’ve made a masterpiece

Ok, this is officially the canon story for me now. This was amazing, as someone who liked Forces but wanted more out of it's story this was perfect, just what I needed after finishing the game nearly 1,5 year ago. The way the story is told/ progresses is very akin to other Sonic games, I could see the scene's play out in my head (kinda like how scenes play out in the early 3D games like Shadow, Riders and Heroes to a degree , I don't know if it was intentional though). Your way of telling the story is so visual I love it. Man I can't express into words how much I love this: the story which is perfect for a Sonic game, the gameplay sounds really neat and the locations sound like interesting new locations instead of rehashed levels. Needless to say I'm subscribed to your channel now. =) -The ending quite literally almost made me cry, this story man it's too good to be just a concept- Edit: Also that final boss idea is sooo cool, also something that wouldn't feel out of place in a Sonic game.

I feel like he'd be a hard mode, only having access to his sword, but that sword could get upgrades throughout the game. No story elements, just stage to stage action, with hubs in between.

Awww, loved this ending. Love this concept, Infinite and Nil are complety different individuals, remind me about Bucky's brainswashing torture to become the Winter Soldier. Infinite was a product created by Dr. Eggman's machinations, weakening Nil's mind through the process and forming a new persona so he could manipulate at his whims. Also loved the distorted voice effect. Just glad the rewrite have a conclusive ending. Love it!

This was beautiful... :,) I love the idea of Nil having to basically face his past self as he fights along Hero in Infinite's final battle! The mix between present and past scenes really ties in well. I also LOVE the way Nil's personality is! He's the type who acts all cool just to please his friends lol. One more thing I have to say... I like that Hero had a voice line at the end of your game's story. I think it shows that while a character might act "mute" most of the time, it doesn't mean they can't talk. In a way it kind of reminds me of myself. Shy and not talkative, but still has a voice to speak when needed. Fantastic work with this series! I can't wait to see what your future work is, but for now... get some rest. Best wishes for an easy recovery! :)

If anything, I think the distortion would reach a lot less far then they think it does. Sonic and the others probably wouldn't realize that anything was wrong at all. Unless Hero and Nil failed that is, then Overclocked Infinite would have had free reign to take over the world. And if anyone is going to be apologizing, it'd be Shadow to Nil for the whole "punch first ask questions never" deal from when they first met. Nil would probably try to apologize anyway but Hero and Sonic wouldn't let him because he didn't know what he was doing.

I love your version of the Forces storyline! I think there is really one thing that could make it perfect! Can Infinite/Nil still be voiced by Liam O'Brien? He is an amazing voice actor! Not only is his villain voice really good, but he is really good at voicing the "cool friend" character. Like Akihiko from Persona or Orlando for Catherine. He is my favorite voice actor so I might be bias though...

This story is singlehandedly making me a Sonic Fan. I don't even know half of the past Sonic games yet here I am (thanks RU-vid algorithm??) That really shows you've got wicked writing skills to make someone who hardly knows the series feel for these characters. Also the voice acting is the cherry on top. Keep up the cool work!

I love it. I mean, I always thought that Infinite could have a lot of potential to be a good character if they had taken the right choices with him when they made sonic forces (instead of making him be a joke with that origin story), and also, I really liked Nil's character, being like, a goofy character that always made me laugh and gave him that fresh feeling that those type of characters tend to have. But the fact that in the distorted world he talks like he is regretful from his past actions are really a good thing, setting some good evolution in his character. I would be really glad if you ever made it a fan-game, because this story really looks nice and I would love to play it.

This was by far the best rewrite, let alone, SEQUEL to a rewrite I have ever heard ;w; And I have to mention the Avatar / Hero design you have been showing off in these videos. I feel that it's the canon design for the Sonic Forces rewrite because their design contrasts very well to Infinite's overall design! :3 ... I really wish this was a real story / game because Infinite deserves better Also good lord that final boss was epic lol

I kinda thought of Nil being an optional character to play in a post game, basically his story being him helping through all of the different hubs to try to atone for what he did as Infinite, even some of the Resistance members seeing Nil and trying to attack him(possibly resulting in a mini-boss) or if it's one of the core cast members of the Sonic franchise they ask if Nil is back to how he was before he became Infinite.

i really enjoyed this whole series myself! nil and infinite's dichotomy, as well as hero's determination entertained me and kept me pushing through, as well as your actually very fitting voice for nil and infinite(even if it wasnt too different from your natural voice, it still fit, especially for nil!) and i adored your thought process, dedication, and attention to detail with every little thing, from the cutscenes to the mask symbolism to even making a form of upgrade currency with the shards! all of this shows the potential forces has with a legitimately sympathetic and deep villain, as well as a more involved protagonist than just "you exist and youre a buddy and you beat infinite a lot." your take on not only a rewritten forces, but also a possible sequel inspire me so much creatively, and help cultivate a deeper love for a game many really overlook due to its more gritty aesthetic and a couple bad choices regarding villain backstory and tone flopping about between dark and comedic a little too much. i love your interpretation, and i can tell you really put your heart into it. thank you so much for making this series, gar, it was really something id been hoping to hear more in-depth concepts of from fans of forces.

I CAME AS SOON AS I HEARD- Anyways, these rewrites were absolutely beautiful. You put so much thought into the gameplay mechanics, the whole story, and the levels, it feels like a real Sonic game. And this ending was just so wonderful. A beautiful conclusion to the Let's Save Infinite videos. You did an amazing job, and I would love to play a game like this. Just watched through this whole series and I have got to say: This is indeed a great minor rewrite of the Forces story and a truly impressive concept for a sequel game and its story. I would, however change both the properties of the wispons, to make them all pretty much equally viable and not just make Red Burst the go to one, and the grappling hook, as it very much seems like it requires a lot more of a dynamic feel, perhaps bringing physics into the mix, allowing you to build up speed slightly past the normal sprint speed and get around enemies or behind them, which could in turn allow for much more interesting enemy design, like ones with shields. In any case, well done on this one.

Thank you thank you thank you~ this is the best sonic story ever! I loved every second of it! This last video is the top favourite though. The twists in the story are awesome and the way the flashblacks and the appearance of Nil were intertwined into the storytelling were perfect--and confusing for a bit but what's cool is that there's a reason for that confusion cuz of the distortion of the phantom ruby or infinite or whatever IDK. Everything was perfect! This is just one hell of a sonic story!!! 10,000/10.

i imagine something like when you reach further into the final levels, the previous ones become a corrupted version of themselves, lots of changes gameplay wise and aesthetic wise themeing off something like null space, but id imagine that kinda like mixture between them all *as* the final level could work in itself too, just really depends on your vision really

This was incredible! I keep coming back and binging the entire series because you being such good ideas- i really wish this was a game. I don’t know if you’re doing any other sonic story rewrites (it’d be super cool if you did) but if you did, a suggestion would maybe be Sonic 06? I feel like you could actually improve that mess of a story (plus silver deserved a better starting game 100%)

I just watched this, and I gotta say, I'd like to see maybe something like an apology scene from Shadow. I'm guessing he would be feeling pretty guilty about being the cause of Infinite's existence, so seeing him apologize to Nil would be a nice touch.

I thought about it, but didn't include it because it would have been the only reference to the core Sonic cast out of the entire story. I felt like it would have been a little out of place, ya know. The other thing I thought about was an extra cutscene for 100% that had Shadow and Sonic in it, but I also decided against that because someday I'll make another story with these characters involved and we can do it then.

I LOVE this series, the way you write the relationship between infinite and hero us amazing! So, I wrote my own version for infinite and hero- Hero and infinite were best friends from childhood, and they'd shared a sonic-tails dynamic- hero is shy and timid, while infinite is the bold and rash. In their youth, Infinite often got himself into fights trying to protect hero from bullies that picked up him, although he usually lost in all of them. That lead him to wish to one day become the strongest being in the world, so he can properly protect hero. Unfortunately, on the way to achieve this childhood dream, Infinite and hero ultimately part ways, and as the time passes they got less and less in touch. On his journey, Infinite soon find himself becoming a leader of a mercenary group called the jackal squad, which he leads proudly. One day, to show off his squad's strength out of cockiness and arrogance, he leads an assault on eggman's base, but they got taken down easily as eggman uncovers the phantom ruby's abilities. Eggman, realizing infinite's potential, offers him that he'll let the rest of his squad live in exchange that Infinite will work for him, and a promise to greatness. Infinite, with not really another choice, agrees. A few months pass, and infinite was ordered by eggman to stop shadow, who was invading the base. Shadow defeat infinite quite easily, calling him weak and pathetic before leaving. With the humiliating defeat (which may reminds him of the fights with the bullies), and that his strength was what he grew to value most, infinite was offended and hurt quite heavily- he did not came all this way only to be called weak again! He was ready to use any means necessary to get back at shadow no matter what. Fortunately, eggman was looking at the same time for someone to help test the phantom ruby's capabilities with. With the phantom ruby in hand, infinite grew more and more mad in power (the ruby's itself might be partly responsible), seeing himself as the most powerful entity in the world just as he so dreamed. I also had the same idea that Infinite might not be the character's true name, but a name he gave to himself once obtaining the phantom ruby, but what his true name will be I have not idea :/

And regarding the hero- he was trying to get back in touch with infinite for quite a while, but infinite was answering his letters less and less, letting hero to get quite worried about him. Not to mention that he encounters few of the jackal squad members, them being slightly injured, but they did not really give him any information about infinite expect that "the doctor has him". When he finally sees him again with his newfound powers and mask, he couldn't believe at first that the creature standing in front of him destroying the city was his old friend, as he acted nothing like the friend he once knew. He soon joins the resistance in hope that maybe on the battlefield he could get a chance to talk to his old friend and return him back to his senses. The rest of the resistance, however, do not know about all of this at all, as hero didn't had the right time to tell them that. He was also wearing on his wrist a friendship bracelet- one of a pair that he made for him and infinite back when they were young, signifying how important their friendship was for him, and how badly he wants that friendship back.

Throughout sonic forces, infinite outright denys any relationship he had with hero, pretending he doesn't know him or even care about him, much to the hero's dismay. After the final fight with infinite, eggman surprise everyone by shooting a laser beam toward the weakened infinite, knocking him down, and taking the phantom ruby to himself. He say that infinite is a complete disappointment, and he rather finish the heroes himself. He soon take off, and sonic and classic sonic follow suit. Meanwhile, hero is heading toward infinite, who rejects him. "why are you still here? To laugh at a failure such as myself? Hmph don't waste your time." Hero than shows him the friendship bracelet he's has been holding on all this time. Infinite is surprised. "did you really kept this old piece of garbage?" Rookie tell him something. "Because we're friends?" Replied infinite. "huh! Don't be foolish, our little friendship is over for years now! You can't possibly say that you went through all of this trouble just.... for..... me......" Infinite stay silent for a few seconds, and gently smiles. "You have grown a lot since we last met do you know that? You are much stronger than the timid child I always used to protect." "It makes me proud". Infinite looks at the hero. "Now, go, and kick the doctor's butt for me will ya?" he say smiling before finally passing out. Hero smiles, and heads out for the final battle. After the final battle and ending, an extra scene plays showing infinite from behind slowly waddling away with a hand on his shoulder, his mask is laying on the ground behind. Beneath his glove he is shown wearing an old hand-made bracelet.

When rookie fights infinite in metropolis, Infinite remarks how rookie looks familiar, but adds nothing else. After the fight, infinite decide to get rid of rookie once and for all by summoning large canons. He is about to fire, when instead of rookie he suddenly see a small frightened child in his place, his eyes are covered by black scribbles. In front of him is another child- a young jackal (his eyes are also covered), protecting the other child and shouting "leave him alone you big meanies!" Infinite is startled. He tries to withdraw the canons, but it was too late- like they had a mind of their own, the canons already started to fire. Rookie manage to dodge the cannonballs using the phantom ruby duplicate he found earlier. Confused, infinite leaves without saying another word. The scene ends with rookie looking towards infinite with a worried expression. The next scene is a flashback, with monochrome filter and black scribbles covering the characters' eyes- On the rooftops of the not-destroyed city, a young child is putting bandages on a frustrated young jackal. "Stupid bullies, how dare they pick up on you." He murmured. "I'll show them! One day, when I get older, I'll become the strongest being in all the world, and then we'll see if they would dare to pick on us then!" The young child smile awkwardly, when a pair of hand-made bracelets drops out his pocket. "What is it?" The jackal asked, examining one of the bracelets. "A friendship bracelet? Hahahah look at it no wonder they had picked up on you." "It's perfect." The jackal puts the bracelet onto his hand. "I announce that from this day onward, as long we wear those bracelets, we will always be best friends until the end of time." The jackal then reach out for a fist bump. But before the fist bump is done, the scene is abruptly shifted to present-day rookie, looking frightened at present-day infinite, who floating above flames of a destroyed city. "And that's a promise" "Rookie? ROOKIE!" Rookie snaps back to reality, holding his wrist in surprise. Behind him is charmy. "Helloooo? Earth to rookie? The commander is about to lay out an important mission so come quick!" Rookie gives an embarrassed look, and follows charmy to the meeting room.

I just realized, Hero's choice to not go with Nil was probably the most world changing moment in this whole hypothetical game. The slight chance of both Hero and Nil being able to not get beat up near an inch of their life is very slim, and if both Hero and Nil were taken by Eggman, the world would have been taken over WAY sooner, the resistance would have been wiped out by Infinite or Hero, since one could keep tabs on the resistance and beat them down while the other made sure every phantom ruby was destroyed. And even if the resistance was able to reach up until the final battel, since Hero wasnt there to pick up the one Phantom Ruby Prototype, the sun would have crashed. It's really strange how doing one slight thing could change the entire outcome of the world

The Pokémon mystery dungeons vibes from Nil and Hero’s friendship are strong with this. Outstanding job! Tho I think it should have ended with a Undertale Flowey sort of ending where they show compassion and spared infinite who would have ran away like a weak cowered not understanding why hero would spare them. After all They have their friend back. (Plus this allows their to be more sequels where he could grow to be his own character) like the Shards truly gave rise to a new life when leaving Nil. I thought that’s what the title “saving Infinite” meant. Regardless, I really really liked it. It was adorable and I really wish the people being payed to write sonic stuff cared as much as someone doing it for fun. Outstanding.

Wow, that was INCREDIBLE!!! The concept for the game is astounding and the story is captivating and highly enjoyable!!!!!! The only tiny nitpick I have is that I wish once Nil returns, Hero has a more strong reaction to that, since they've fought tooth and nail to save him. but other then that is REALLY FREAKING AWESOME!!! Absolutely hooked from beginning to end!!! Now go rest man! Hope you feel better soon after the surgery! Thanks for an really bitching story!

For some reason I always think of the most knife-twisting alternatives in a story. For example after the final hit to take down Overclocked Infinite there'd be a cutscene where Shard Infinite repossesses Nil, who really doesn't want to become a demon again, so the final phaze begins where Shard Infinite tries to kill you and Nil tries do resist, begging you to stop him. And just to be extra mean to the player, the name above the health bar woud read "Nil"

This shit sounds fucking fantastic. If this was turned into an actual official spinoff by SEGA, I fear that they're still stuck in "it's a kids game, therefore we can cut corners on literally everything" and twist the story into a very in-your-face "friendship trumps everything" like in Forces... and put Sonic in there because he's gotta be there for reasons. This 4 parter is taking something that's fundamentally bad and turning it into something that people would actually pay to play.

If I were to add one more suggestion to this amazing story arc, which I suppose seems to already been implied throughout part 2 and 3 and even the original game, is that Nil seems to desire to stand up for himself but for a bit, he seems lacking until Hero came around and gave him that strength. I like to think this may assist in his guilt of being corrupted by the prototype gem, thinking a part of him may have actually enjoyed that power. It’d make the villain’s backstory a tad more than X turns Y into Z even though that is still the case. Anyway, this is way better than most “mature” gaming stories I come across anyway. I love an ever developing dynamic between hero and villain with an epic end to it all. Most gaming stories have a tendency to create a villain in to fill out a checklist, but Infinite, the cheesy edgy simple OC actually develops to be an engaging (if still simple with a bit of subtext) character.

If I may make a recommendation, perhaps you could do a Sonic spin off rewrite, like maybe Secret Rings, Black Knight or maybe Chronicles Dark Brotherhood(or write a sequel story, much like you did here). The level presented at the footage 9:57-12:57 looks pretty cool especially with the Null Space theme playing in the background. It would make for a fitting penultimate level in a Sonic Forces sequel. Also, great ending! It was cool having Infinite separate from Nil's body and turn into a monster made of crystal shards for both the Hero and Nil to fight. Maybe if Sega does a sequel to Sonic Forces, this could be the final boss for Sonic and the rest of the Resistance to fight.

This 3 year old series is eaxctly what I wanted Infinite to be. Someone who had more of a motive or a person forced to take the role would have been perfect. I also love that you kept his old motive as a hint of how he acts similar. Nel saying if only he was stronger. I find that really cool and interesting as well as a better way to include it then being his motive entirely for being Infinite. I hope you are doing well and can't wait to check out more of your work.
