I always thought Jiraiya was a hard counter for Kisame b/c how Sage mode/sage chakra works. Remember how Naruto beat the Preta path when fighting Pain by letting it absorb too much sage chakra which has the negative effect of turning them into a frog then stone? Since a large part of Kisame’s fighting style is pretty dependent on him absorbing his opponents chakra normally, in character I think Kisame would lose b/c he’d be absorbing sage chakra not regular chakra from Jiraiya and that would turn him into a frog then stone. What do you guys think?

I wouldn't be surprised if samehada can digest sage chakra. It doesn't absorb chakra, it feeds on it. Worst case scenario the sword turns to stone first and not kisame himself

Jiraiah was entrusted to protect Naruto from the akutaki before time skipped. I think Jiraiah, like you mentioned In the beginning, was supposed to be a top teir ninja before power creep set in.

Kisame is one of the most powerful in-base characters without a dojutsu. Except really powerful people like Itachi, Minato, and maybe a few other people, base to base, Kisame can fight many people of his generation (base to base) and he would handily stomp them.

1- Orochimaru was sick (like very sick) 2- Taka Sasuke (Akatsuki cloak) is, by far, the weakest version of Sasuke in all of part 2 3- Bee intentionally restrained himself for various reasons, he didn’t even use a single bijuu-dama

While I agree kisame would beat jiraya I don’t doubt jiraya can beat kisame. Jiraya could probably fill up the giant water bubble with oil making it harder for kisame to swim or breath, he could also set that oil on fire, you could argue that the oil would go to the surface but just like kisames bubble it could be controlled by jiraya. The wind bullets from chief toad might be able to blast away the water bubble too, might even help stop the shark bomb, or maybe lessening it’s effects by slicing it with his sword. If jiraya can get with in range he could damage samehada and even kisame with a giant rasengan, giving chief toad a chance to wrap him with his tongue, giving the toads a chance to do their genjutsu. Even then kisame might wake himself up like he did before he died, but would be too late because jiraya would stab him with the stone swords.

late comment but Kisame can also move underground as seen by the Earth style: subteranian voyage jutsu so Jiraiya's mud swamp would do probably nothing even with a direct hit.

Kisame would not win. Why you ask? Kisame himself stated during his fight with Bee that he is only as strong as his opponent, referring to his chakra absorption ability. During your analysis, you gave Kisame a lot of advantages based on chakra absorption as well. But you conveniently forgot that senjutsu chakra cannot be controlled easily without serious training. The only person that has been able to easily absorb senjutsu chakra without turning into a frog was Madara Uchiha. Hence both Kisame and his shark sword Samede would petrify if they absorbed senjutsu chakra. Since stealing chakra is Kisame's favorite move, I don't see the fight lasting longer the moment Jiraiya enters sage mood. Secondly, If Jiraiya entered sage mood with Ma and Pa, Kisame would be very had pressed. Both those frog sages have far more battle experience than Kisame and have many technics that would either corner of kill him.

I disagree that kisame would feast on the toad summons. They are repeatedly shown to be capable enough on their own to at least block kisames attacks with their weapons.

Kisame’s best speed feat is probably how well he was dealing with Killer Bee who was capable of defending Ay and going for a mutual kill with Minato.

In their first meeting jiryaya blocked shark skin without even blinking. He was prepared to take on both. He forced itachi to use black fire which caught itachi off guard. Guy's tai jitzu was more than enough to contend with kisami. Kisami is a fierce water style user, but jiryaya is a Sage. He has tons of summoning, Gen jitzu, fire water, earth and air styles. He is well versed in sealing jitzu as well as barrier jitzu. Nagato himself said he would have lost had jiryaya known the secret to pain. As for endurance, it took 5 pains sharing vision to kill jiryaya. It took Might Guy to kill kisame.

It’s likely Kisame in part 2 is waaaay stronger than part one. He was swapping hands with Guy and he was losing. Then the next time they fought a 30% clone of Kisame forced Guy to the 7th gate. So it’s likely part 1 Kisame would get smoked by Jiraiya while part 2 Kisame at his peak would destroy Jiraiya

Ok, I didn't expect you to say that but like. I think Guy was holding back on Kisame but I do think his Durability is higher just off the Bee feat alone. So maybe it's weird it's hard to tell how much Guy might be able to hold back or how much the Attack might have been weakened or like just anything really about that tech.

I like how u described the battle between them and the rewriting series. Honestly, if I were Kishimoto and I were to use the same powerskaling as they are, I couldn’t make this fight better than you. But what I would do is to buff Jiraya and sannins in general at least to the level of healthy edo Nagato. Yes, I would have had to increase powers of other shinobi like Madara and Hashirama but it would make much more sense why did Itachi refused to fight Jiraya even tho having Kisame as a backup (well, assuminly that Itachi was a true villain not the hero-exile)

I have a feeling kisame has a counter to genjutsu as he had a kind of rivalry with itachi though he knew he couldn't win.

It was realy deep anlysis and well edited video you only missed Samehada's chakra transfer probably counter for Jiraiya's genjutsu. Another thing is Kisame beated 4 tailed magma Jinchuriki by himself. Keeping him alive. My theory is Akatsuki couples are generally has equal power level. As i mentioned if samehada counter GEnjutsu Kisame even has a change beat Itachi. Jiraiya can barely beat Kisame %30 but %100 form no way.

There’s some flawed logic here. 1- You can’t simply say Orochimaru was weakened when Sasuke killed him. He was on his literal deathbed decomposing as he was fighting Sasuke. Sasuke himself said that he wouldn’t have stood a chance if Orochimaru wasn’t in the situation he was in. 2- Kisame was buffed by Samehada absorbing 8 tales chakra against Bee. If Samehada absorbs some of Jiraiya’s chakra and transfers it to Kisame, he wouldn’t be as strong as when he absorbed Bee’s eight tales chakra(duh) 3- Bee was severely holding back against Kisame. He never went full transformation and never used a single bijuudama. 4- Taka Sasuke is Sasuke’s weakest point in shippuden because he doesn’t have Orochimaru’s amps and his MS is still developing. 5- The fact that SM Jiraiya even managed to keep up to all the six paths of Pain and would’ve won if he had some intel on their biology(?) is enough of a feat to prove that he would at least high diff Kisame seeing as he simply would get bodied by Pain. So you can’t really use the Kisame who fought Bee as a consistent feat because no amount of chakra he absorbs from Jiraiya can compare to eight tails chakra. You are also pitting Kisame against the character who canonically did the best solo feats against Pain, who is insanely stronger than Kisame. I just simply don’t see how Kisame could beat Jiraiya

The frog song wouldn't work against Kisame as the Samehada could break him out of genjutsu by giving him chakra, like how Chiyo and Sakura to Naruto did when they fought the 30% clone of Itachi. The only way I see Jiraiya winning is if Kisame made the mistake of absorbing too much sage chakra from Jiraiya which would turn him into a frog like Naruto did against the Preta path. That is pretty unlikely however, as Jiraiya could only enter Sage mode with the help of the frogs.

Thank you, Dygo, it was awesome to listen to even the second time. 🙏 One thing about Kisame: I think you underestimated his physical strength. You said he's not that impressive, but ironically you showed a feat where his 30% clone pushes Gai to the ground with one hand and punches him with the other to the bottom of the ocean. And remember, Gai's entire kit is about being physically powerful, strong, fast, durable, etc. He trains EVERY DAY to strengthen his body. And then a 30% Kisame clone just pins him down and punches him to the bottom of the ocean, haha. I think Gai would break Jiraiya's hand with a block if Jiraiya tries to punch him, lmao. Jiraiya hits Gai's body and his hand broke. 😂 Okay, maybe not, but you get the point, that Kisame is indeed a beast in physical strength, like you don't wanna get a slap from him. This would be a close fight. The circumstances would determine this fight. If it happens on water, Kisame should take this high difficulty. On land Jiraiya's summons would play a huge factor. Does Kisame have a counter for Ma and Pa's genjutsu.

I don't know if Nagato or Tobi count in how much Chakra of Akatsuki members. If they do it's crazy. If they don't then maybe. Also maybe context might just be he has his base Chakra + any Chakra he absorbs making him more commonly have more Chakra but even then.

I think that Jiraiya had tons of info on Kisame. He was not worried at all when he went up against Kisame and Itachi. Even tho Kisame has more chakra than Jiraiya and can absorb chakra, Jiraiya simply has way more tricks up his sleeve and probably more experience as well. Jiraiya fought well against Pain on his home turf, where he is way stronger, with no prior knowledge about the paths. Kisame is just one guy, not several like the paths of Pain with hax dojutsu, and i am sure that Jiraiya is smart enough to counter him and use his skills in a way to not make Kisame stronger. He can most likely render Samehada more or less useless with some sealing jutsu. The frog song is based on sound, and sound travels faster in water, so i see no reason why it would not work against Kisame. Genjutsu is also Kisame's weakness if i am not mistaken. Orochimaru was so sick when Sasuke fought him and he could not use his arms for jutsus, so that is not a valid argument in my book. The only reason why Orochimaru could even fight Sasuke at that point was because of all the experiments he had done to himself to make himself more powerful. And even tho Kisame did tank jutsus more powerful than Jiraiya's, it does not mean that Kisame would not get hurt from them. Plus the scaling in Naruto is inconsistent at best. And also, i think that Kisame is a hard counter against jinchurikis because of his chakra absorbtion and he knew what he was up against and was prepared. Jiraiya did not that Naruto had the nine tails inside him, but he was probably not ready for the sudden increase in power and was caught slightly off-guard. Kisame can just have the jinchuriki more or less slam into Samehada and weaken them and get stronger from it, while Jiraiya must physically touch Naruto in order to suppress the nine tails, which put him at greater risk. That is why he almost got killed by Naruto. Bee had way less knowledge on Kisame than Jiraiya, so he got caught by surprise in their fight. If Jiraiya is more prepared for what or who he is about to fight, i think that he can do much better than people think. So i think that the fight would lean much more towards Jiraiya than you give him credit for. It could probably be closer to a 50/50.

Lets take a look, Jiraiya can summon a army of toads. He can summon giant toads. Each of them know how to swim. Also, each of the giant toads are size of the tailed beast. Even the smaller toads gamakichi and the toad that is shown in this link. Both of those toads paired up and used a water style jutsu that knocked out a tailed beast. That tailed beast was in fact a water style tailed beast. So, that water styled tailed beast is as strong at water style as Kisame. Yet, those two toads was able to knock it out. Look at the sizes of the jutsu used by the smaller toads. Those were huge bijuu level jutsu. Thats just the smaller toads to. The giant toads can use even more powerful water style jutsu and other bijuu level jutsu. Also, those giant toads can fight under water and swim. They can also use water style jutsu and other jutsu as well. Those two smaller toads alone with the jutsu they used to knock out the tailed beast with the tailed beast being a total water style tailed beast would be able to take on Kisame. Let alone the giant toads. The giant toads have even more powerful jutsu then the small ones yet the small ones was still able to knock out a tailed beast that lives in the water and is a super powerful water style user. So, Kisame brings up the water bubble and Jiraiya brings out the army of giant toads ans smaller toads like the toads that took on and knocked out the water style tailed beast and then Kisame would be bringing the toada to their territory. It would be like them bringing them to their natural habitat. Look at the video and you will see that the toads live on mount myaboku. Which as shown has tons of water for the toads to swim. They have tons of water so the toads are not against water. They also know how to swim in toad oil. That is literally what the toads swim in is water or toad oil. The toads can swim and even use water style jutsu under the water if needed. Thats a big part of their jutsu is the water style. Mount Myaboku is covered in tons of water spots. As well as toad oil spots. So, the toads can use the water that Kisame gives them as a weapon and they can use the water to swim. Each one of the giant toads that Jiraiya summons are the size of Bijuu so that small water bubble would not be able to hold all of them and even if it can. They all would encompass the entirety of the water bubble giving Kisame tons of Enemies who both can use water style against him and can swim. They each of the giant toads can use bijuu level attacks. So, Kisame would be giving himself a bubble filled with enemies thats natural habitat is filled with toad oil and water which they can swim in. So, he would be giving them tons of advantages to all attack him with bijuu level attacks. Jiraiya would summon a army of giant toads so Kisame would be swarmed with bijuu sized opponents that are all swarmed around him and all have bijuu level attacks. So, kisame would be done for if he did that. Also, even if Jiraiya summoned just his giant chief toad after the water bubble that toad can swim him out of the bubble. While fighting Kisame if he had to fight him while in the bubble. If not the summoning of a army of giant toads and even the small ones will work. Kisame would be swarmed with giant enemies. Also, lets not forget if Kisame does not summon the water bubble. Kisame has sage mode which can help take him down. He can use the sound genjutsu, he can tons of moves that can take him down. The massive rasengan can carve in mountains. You know the hirudora feet. Mountains are super durable to. Yet, jiraiya can carve into mountains. Also, that mud swamp that enveloped the snake. Those were giant snakes. Which Kisame is not a giant snake larger then average bijuu. Those snakes are larger then average bijuu yet it got stuck in that. Kisame would be totally stuck especially when that giant snake bigger size then the average bijuu got stuck. Also, Jiraiya can use that toad oil wind and fire combo which was able to turn the surrounding water into steam. His jutsu is as powerful as the jutsu that the small toads shot at the water style bijuu and knocked it out. Jiraiya also can turn into his environment like he did when he was trying not to be found by pain he turned himself into this super thin as thin as paper looking thing that blended in with the environment. He also, has the ability to summon Kisame into a swamp that swamp that he killed a pain in. He can either leave Kisame in that swamp defeating him by BFR his opponent. Kind of like if Obito Kamui a opponent and left the opponent their. It would still be considered a defeat of the opponent. This would be the same as Jiraiya can summon Kisame to the swamp then summon himself away and leave Kisame stuck in a swamp with him not knowing where he is or how to get out. Or Jiraiya can summon Kisame to the swamp and defeat him either using elemental jutsu which he knows that swamp and what he can do with it. Or he can summon the toads to the swamp and they can use bijuu level jutsu against them with the toads having the advantage as they live in swamp. Or he can summon Kisame in the belly of the mountain sized toad. That toad is the size of the mountain. Look at in your video the size of the mountain and the size of the bubble that Kisame summoned. The mountain is way way huger. That bubble would not do anything to the mountain sized toad. The worst thing the bubble could do is make the toad throw up or make Kisame being digested even easier. Its a mountain sized toad. That bubble would not kill it. The worst it can do it make it throw up. Also, Jiraiya can reverse summon himself and escape Kisame with his life. Or he can teleport Kisame to mount Myaboku. Which the toads have full control of the entire environment. Also, all of the toads are their. Even toads we do not know about. Mount myaboku is where the toads live. So, Kisame would be sent to where all of the toads are. Which all of the toads have advantage of the land. All 20 or more toads would all be their able to attack him. If Kisame summons a water bubble their. All the toads know how to swim and have been swimming in toad oil since they were tadpools. They would all have the natural advantage and all use bijuu level attacks all at once all of them on Kisame. Kisame would get his by like 20 or more huge toads bijuu level jutsu all at once and Kisame would give them the ammo to use their giant water style jutsu's all bijuu level. Even if Kisame did not summon the water bubble all twenty or more bijuu level toads can all hit him with toad oil jutsu each of them know frog kung fu and are bijuu level. They can all use whatever elemental bijuu level jutsu they have at their disposal on their own home territory. No need for Jiraiya to summon them when he can summon him and Kisame to mount myaboku where all the toads are. So, he would get totally demolished by the 20 or more bijuu level toads on their own territory. Kisame would lose. Also, not just all of that Kisame could be turned into a frog. If he absorbs Jiraiya sage mode. Just like how the absorbing path of pain. Turned into a frog when he absorbed Sage mode Naruto's sage mode. The same would go for Kisame if he absorbed the sage mode. Also, Jiraiya was shown to turn someone into a literal frog. Which he could do to Kisame. Also, Jiraiya can use his hair to shield himself from whatever attack Kisame does. Also, Jiraiya can enter into peoples bodies without them knowing. Like he did against that one pain's associates until he was found out by Konan and exited the person's body. Also, Jiraiya says he could take on both Itachi and Kisame at the same time and said that while looking Itachi dead in the eyes confidently. Meaning he was not afraid to take on Kisame. Also, do not forget he took on a Otsuski in a Boruto Episode as well. He also, has good sealing ability. Also, Jiraiya can use the sword that used to stab into the pains. He also has the strength to lift the weapons that the giant toads uses. The most realistic scenario is the one you had in the rewrite. Jiraya has to reverse summon away to survive. Kisame is too fast unlike pain to enter sage mode and even if he gets it,all kisame has to do is separate ma and pa from jiraya... Sage mode can't be kept well and even the genjustu might not work as samehada would disrupt kisames chakra

Don't frog summons use sage chakra? If that's the case Kisame couldn't absorb their chakra or he would become stone. The same would be with Jiraiya's sage mode, in which I think he would have a little advantage because Kisame wouldn't be able to absorb any more chakra in this point and he would have the summonings on his side, including the old toads. Anyhow I think Jiraiya couldn't last long enough to reach sage mode unless in prevision of the fight he uses it before the start.

I was waiting for you to factor in Samehada in your initial analysis to make it more interesting, but when you didn't and moved on I immediately called cap. You can't make bold statements like that when his sword is literately one of the main factors why he can fight someone like Bee in the first place.

The Problem to Kisame is if he uses Semehada, and Jirayra is even trying to get Senjutsu, Semehada Became Stone, if he Try to Fight the summonings of Jirarya they are Imune to Water and are Giants and Semehada need to be Close to suck Chakra plus(is imply that the "normal chakra" of then is already senjutsu), and if he try to Put Jiraya in the Water Dome this would be his Bigest Mistake, Jirarya have 3 Paths to Get Out, summonings , turn everything in oil and explode, or the Worse for Kisame try Senjutsu, because if Kisame Fuses with semehada and touch Jirarya even if Jiraya as been moved and by this fail to enter sage mode, Kisame would be turn into STONE. i think that what make Jiraya impossible to deafeat to Kisame is because he is Sage Mode is a Counter to "suck raw chakra strategy". 16:32 Jirarya is ~50 years old, and in all His Life the Only Thing that could Escape that Jutsu was Amaterasu soo, i don´t think Jiraya would use this Jutsu Against Kisame BUT if he uses Water would not be a way out.

One thing you didn't consider. Even if he creates the water bubble, jiraya could use the rasengan to create a strudel, like Naruto did in a filler episode. This would render this technique useless. Also jiraya is aware of the ability of samehada, so he wouldn't get surprised by it. Sure he has to be careful, but he can't swing this sword that fast. So it's quite easy to dodge. To the summonings, there smaller frogs then gamabunta he could use who can help him and even can block samehada. Also like in their encounter in Naruto. Also he is more resourceful than kiss me, so I think it's way more close than you prescribe. Without the waterbubble a lot of advantage falls flat. Disarming him then from samehada and he would be forced into taijutsu and there I see jiraya in advantage. A normal rasengan to damage him and he wins. As long as jiraya breaks out frome the water with rasengan I see him winning. But it would be hard fight for both.

Nature chacra is a hard counter to kishame first of all it's heavily implied that the summons use nature chacra but even if they kishame only has to absorb a small amount of nature chacra to start seeing side effects remember that when Naruto didn't concentrate he for a second he had his hand turn to a frog paw? Whatever it's called anyway

I do think Kisame is beating Jiraiya strength to strength, but if we take strategy into account, I'm not as confident, at least when Jiraiya is in Sage Mode. Even PAIN could absorb senjutsu but couldn't absorb Sage Chakra on its own and since PAIN is stronger than Kisame, it really dampers on the notion that kisame is gaining any further strength after Jiraiya gets into Sage Mode. Not to mention the toad belly summons, like using the gastric acid to incinerate Kisame, the genjutsu. If Jiraiya sees that Kisame is using Samehada to increase his power, he is likely going to try to separate the two. As when he dragged a PAIN underwater and Nagato couldn't sense him, and he's a great sensory type. So Kisame would have to resort to his own jutsu, the main thing he may have going for him is the Super Water Shark Bomb, but I can also see that that would be the perfect time for Jiraiya to summon a toad and avoid the attack completely. From there, the genjutsu of the frogs would take out Kisame, only if he separates Samehada from him.

Jiraiya wins if he has set up mostly because we haven't seen kasami ever do good versus a genjutsu and the frog song is one of the most powerful. Also if he steals dry his sage mode energy he might just turn into a frog

If Jiraya is in sage mode it's either a close fight if Samehada can absorb nature chakra safely or a clean sweep against Kisame if it can't. If they're both in base, Kisame is probably clapping.

I disagree with a lot of this argument. Saying that the sannin are overhyped is a lie. Let’s remember that Jiraiya is relative to Orochimaru, Orochimaru was on par with Hiruzen. People forget that Hiruzen even in part 1 was stronger than all of the other kage including both A and Onoki, proof of this being that edo Hiruzen who wasn’t even as strong as when he died was performed against Spiral Zetsu’s buddha better than the current five kage who were powerless against it. Meaning that the sannin were relevant even towards the end. Also, Jiraiya holding back against four tail Naruto isn’t comparable to Kisame and Killer Bee because Kisame was still trying to defeat him in a fight. Also, you underplayed how nerfed Orochimaru was against four tails Naruto and Sasuke. Orochimaru had no access to most of his jutsu and his current body was rapidly decaying, with even a Sasuke who had absorbed Orochimaru and fought Itachi saying that he wouldn’t be able to beat Orochimaru at full power. The Sasuke who fought against Killer Bee wasn’t far stronger than the one who fought Itachi as he could barely even use his sharingan abilities until the kage summit. Finally, you were saying that Jiraiya is weak because Pain was basically destroying him, but Pain was so far above him that it’s like comparing a stone wall to a nuke. Zetsu said that nobody in the world should be able to beat Nagato, which includes all the living members of the akatsuki. The same Killer Bee that fought Kisame got shut down by a edo Nagato who was revived as his own literal corpse. I don’t think Jiraiya would beat Kisame in a fight, but I definitely think that Jiraiya could hold his own much better than people act.

More than once you say that Kisame "tank" the Hirodora. What the hell is this definition of tank when the thing you tank defeats you in 1 single hit? And 18:42 Kisame wasn't able to easily keeps up with 6 eights Guy and force him to open the seventh gate so to deafeat him. Guy opened the seventh gate not defeat Kisame, but to destroy all the sharks before they had a chance to escape with info. And what do you mean Kisame was weak and thin? The second he unfused Samehada he was, but he touched her again and regained his power, than got even more after draining almost all Aoba's chakra.

Dude jiraiya basically had a visual victory against pain and did that without knowing the full extent of pains power (on a tangent he really should have though because he should have guess those rods have Chakra connecting powers and did what naruto did to find nagato). So unless you're also saying he slaps pain and Nagano those scaling are way off

I personaly dont think its fair to powerscale them like Dragonball Charakters, because Naruto operates much more on Rock Paper Scizor and a good Matchup might let you beat someone fastly superior to you, while a bad Matchup lets you get defeated by someone equal, or weaker. In fact how some of this early Lines are phrased, it seemns like the Sanin where suppose to be the "officially" strongest Ninja in the verse, only beaten by Pain, and prime Hiruzen.
