They would have to be reanimated, but most of the transformations are designed to be pretty easy in that regard. If anything, the hardest part would be texturing on the suspenders.
I see them as sharing the same universe. Mario and Donkey Kong know each other and have interacted quite a lot, Diddy is Donkey Kong's nephew, and Diddy knows Banjo and Kazooie.
the Banjo OST with Mario sound uh, instruments? is incredibly surreal, like they're so damn close but something is just that little bit _off_ to make them feel wrong. might just be the listening to them in isolation from the game thing, they'll probably sound fine when actually playing.
Yeah, some of them I think "wow it sounds the same" others are "wow that sounds so different" and a few have a kind of uncanny valley effect you described
I'm looking forward to playing SM64 on original hardware with your new optimizations, can't wait for it to come out! It's been over 20 years since i've played that game and I want to relive it exclusively with your code. Seeing this is also exciting, I wasn't a banjo fan back in the day and didn't play it, i thought it had too much slowdown and the atmosphere just wasn't for me. this new cleanup is great and with how pretty it is, and the chance to play mario in it, looks really promising! Could be that I finally get into banjo-kazooie!
This is super cool. One thing I always hated about Banjo was the complicated/clunky movements, so I think this will be a much better game than Banjo. I can't wait to play it!
Might be an unpopular thing to say, but it would be awesome if it was compatible with Super Mario 64 ex-coop. Being able to play this online with friends.
Ich bin super beeindruckt davon, wie viel Zeit und Arbeit du in diese Themen steckst. Ich frage mich, ob dein Tag mehr Stunden hat als meiner :D Jedenfalls: bitte hör niemals auf. Mega!
Nice video! I had to smile when I heard Bowsers laugh in Gruntildas Lair, it gives it a nice touch and fits so much :D And the next one could be Mario in Banjo Tooie? Would be incredible!
We ARE this talented,, you just have to find your lane! Dear _anyone_ who reads this: pick up an instrument and you'll be writing your own music in 6 months.. pick up a paint brush and you'll be cranking out Bob Ross level paintings sooner than you can imagine.. hit the kitchen and you'll have your own recipes so fast it'll make your head spin! If you are even r e m o t e l y creative you can climb the ranks so fast it'll make you wonder what you were waiting for Just go for it man, seriously. worst case scenario you waste a months worth of beer money
Something that really shines in this hack is how many different instruments are used to re-create the banjo OST. I noticed with other rom hacks is that they uses the same 2-3 instruments to re-create other songs, but in the mario 64 sound font.
That's because they are restricted to staying with the same instrument samples used in the original song. One person did a music import test and the same song played throughout the test, with the instruments changing depending on the level the player is currently on.
5:04 oh my god, seeing RtYI right after SM64 gameplay really puts into perspective how much better it looks. Seeing everything added one by one doesn't give you the same idea
Banjo-Kazooie ost is such a banger, it'll definetely be hard not to ask for a playlist with the entire ost! That's something i always wanted when i was a child, seeing my two favorite N64 games together. Looking forward to this.
I need a game that when you beat Bowser in SM64, it says "Thank you Mario but our Princess is in another castle". And it sends you to the Banjo Kazooie world. After beating Bowser there, it sends you to the Donkey Kong 64 world. And you play all as Mario.
Not to brag, but I might have been the first person to combine the two games. Not with any real effort. Just the levels of Banjo in Mario, but it brought some minds together to create Banjo's Backpack.
Oh my god those songs sound so fucking good. Also, I don't subscibe to your RU-vid and Patreon for this, or for RTYI, I subscibe to them for EVERYTHING you have done over the past few years. Mario Odyssey 64, Ocarina of Time Mario, Last Impact, Super Mario Bros. 64, Super Mario Sunshine 64, Through the Ages, and many others have given me HUNDREDS of hours of amazing entertainment. Thank You Kaze!
I am glad you like playing Banjo-Kazooie and Banjo-Tooie for Nintendo 64 and Super Mario 64 DS for Nintendo 3DS, but I personally do not like playing Banjo-Kazooie and Banjo-Tooie for Nintendo 64 and Super Mario 64 DS for Nintendo 3DS. Do you know anyone else who likes playing Banjo-Kazooie and Banjo-Tooie for Nintendo 64 and Super Mario 64 DS for Nintendo 3DS?
One thing I'm wandering about is the dynamic music Banjo-Kazooie is known for. I know Mario 64 had some level dynamic music but is the same system as Banjo's or did they also upgrade that part as well?
The madman’s gonna have Tooie, DK64, Conker and Rayman SM64 hacks at this rate. Before we know it there’s going to be another video outlining how Kaze somehow managed to improve performance by another 40% to achieve 60FPS in the N64’s high resolution mode.
@kaze Emanuar, Are you intending to pull in the more advanced techniques/code/libs/etc from Banjo & Kazooie into your Mario 64 engine? It kind of looks like you could use your M64 engine as a more generic N64 game engine, which would be cool.
I didn't know tooie was mixed I actually thought it was extremely well received and everyone said banjo tooie is how to do a sequel because it refines and expands on the best parts Also I'm not trying to be rude saying that like "oh I thought this" in a rude way
Not gonna lie: When I read the title, I thought that was literally going to be libsm64 getting ported into the Banjo-Kazooie engine. Although... I suppose for that to work, we'd need a decompilation of Banjo-Kazooie first.
Did you implement saving the note counts between levels? And has anyone considered just a hack of Banjo Kazooie that adds this? It should have enough memory to at least keep the notes after a death, if not when you travel from world to world.
My childhood brain would EXPLODE knowing in about 20 some years I could play one game inside of another. Kaze you are a madman. Thank you for all your hard work!!!
sad when a singular guy makes 20 times more games than a multi billion dollar company and also makes them 20 times better than the company in an 24 year old game
I wish to see a complete decompilation of Banjo-Kazooie's code one day and see the wonderful community give it the Render96 treatment like Mario 64 has now.
