Hi friends! Today we take a look at Peeta's torture, and see what would have happened had it been different?
When Peeta is kidnapped by the Capitol, he is tortured using a technique called hijacking. This leads him to believe he must kill Katniss at any cost. But what would have happened had he not been tortured in this way? Would the war have gone differently?

Hi friends! A quick reminder not to post spoilers for "The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes". The book isn't out in many countries yet, and won't be for another few weeks, so it's incredibly inconsiderate. Also, many of you have been asking when I'll make videos about it. I won't be making videos about it until the movie adaptation is released, as this firstly gives everyone time to buy and read the book, and secondly will allow us to use the secondary canon that is a movie to base ideas off of. My view would be that each would take the two parent birds that created the Mockingjay, Peeta would be the JabberJay, and Katniss would be the Mockingbird, the reason being that if they TOGETHER created the mockingjay icon, then it only makes sense that each takes their counterpart between the cause of Mockinjay's existence. this even matches with the idea introsuced that mockingjay's came about because male jabberjays(peeta) mated with female mockingbirds(katniss). This also lines up with the role each plays, with peeta being good with words and a way with getting people to move through speaking and info, and katniss being the unpredictable spark behind the rebellion, with the mocking part of mockingbird being directed at the capitol with her repeated defiance against them, whether intentional or not

Did he ever had a chance at all? I don´t think so. For me Katniss loved him as friend and then just got confused about her feelings. I think that in the of catching fire it´s pretty clear that she loves peeta and he would be the perfect match for her.

Maybe they would both be the mockingjay: The Mockingjays. It would show they are united, and that they were loyal to the Rebellion.

I mean in the movie he was the first one to realize the sound of the mutts and maybe it had to do with him being in the capital. Maybe if he hadn’t spent time in the capital and hadn’t been hijacked he wouldn’t have been able to identify the mutts as quickly which would’ve lead to more of the squad being killed.

Albert Boy i think the fact that Jabberjays were mutts the Capitol created that the rebels used against them, it could be a slap in the face of the Capitol, similar to the Mockingjay (a creature that was never meant to exist)

Jabberjay sounds more like a name the Capitol would use for their own side, considering jabberjays were their intended creation and mockingjays are a symbol of the Capitol’s lack of complete control. Plus, that would imply that Peeta is Katniss’s father...

I think Katniss would’ve still been the Mockingjay but with Peeta being himself and by her side. In a non-hijacked state she’d felt supported by him and would’ve been even more effective at rallying the districts. They would’ve been in lots of propos and he would’ve used his persuasive reasoning to get loyalists to surrender. By the time Katniss was rescued from the arena the writing was on the wall for Snow and the Capitol, so it was just a matter of when and a normal Peeta would’ve sped up the time line. Also, as Katniss says as the end of MJ, she and Peeta’s relationship was inevitable so it would’ve just warmed back up a lot quicker and to the greater happiness of both. They got there in the end but carried far more scars than would otherwise been needed.

Peeta’s hijacking was IMO one of the most tragically non-essential experiences they needed to undergo. Without the traumas they experienced together prior to this, there wouldn’t have been the conditions and impetus for the rebellion. In contrary to this, through the hijacking, they both suffered pain that added nothing to the ultimate outcome. So sad :(

I had a feeling that Katniss losing Peeta is what made her realize she truly loved him and couldn't live without the true Peeta( not the hijacked state peeta). I feel like she still would've been conflicted between the two even though the best choice is Peeta.

I just would like to point out the reason why snow let the tributes get rescued from the capitol is because he thought peeta a would kill Katniss. If he hadn’t been hijacked, snow wouldn’t have let them be rescued.

He didnt "let" as much of " let the defences down". There was still security. However, if snow didn't hijack peeta, they would have probably still been able to rescue peeta, but the job would have been notable more difficult

I think that if peeta hadn't been hijacked them they probably won't have been able to rescue the prisoners because snow kind of let them rescue peeta because he was using him as a weapon to kill katniss

(I'm not sure if this is true but here I go) Well, Peeta didn't cause Finnick's death. Mutts killed Finnick, not Peeta. But I know that Mitchell who died due to Peeta, wouldn't have died, making another person in the sewers (?). So maybe Mitchell would've died in the sewers

But it was from Peeta’s time in the Capitol, specifically when being hijacked that he knew the sound of the mutts, so he told everyone quickly. But idk, maybe he wouldn’t recognised the sound anyhow and they would all be ready to fight and make a quick exit, with Mitchell’s help and added help from unhijacked Peeta, Finnick probably would have survived, though if they hadn’t been able to kill them all someone would’ve still had to have sacrificed themself.

Ik this is a semi old video but if he wasn't highjacked Mitchell would still be alive and able to help while they mad their way through the capitol and against the Lizard Mutts. Mitchell would either die while allowing the other to run, while they were running, before or during the escape, or when they're up against the L-Mutts and the meat grinder pod activates or somehow make it through all of it. There are many parts Mitchell could've died at if Peeta wasn't highjacked

Peeta's alias would have been a plant as he was a baker and plants growing may be symbolic of survival as Peeta wants peace and some plants are symbolic of remembrance and the cost of war which aligns with some of peters views. I’m not sure what plant but I think his alias would have been linked to plants and nature.

I feel like his recovery process was much faster in the books than in the movies.. He was still not himself but it was quicker (btw if you want a good after mockingjay story go to Wattpad and search “Justice” the 4th hunger games book its really good 😁)

I love your 'what if' videos! One important thing I think you miss was would the recuse actually been successful? After returning to District 13, Gale comments how easy it was for them to fly out, as if the Capital wanted them to escape. This was because they hijacked Peeta into a weapon. Without this hijacking, there would at least have been a fight for them to escape. Some, if not all, the people on that airship may not have survived. It also could have crash landed, which would have taken them even longer to return. When communication is interrupted, we see Katniss struggling with anxiety. It would be interesting to see how she would have coped with that anxiety over an extended period of time.

Let's say the truth. Peeta has always been better with words than Katniss. I think that the real rebel is him, and the real potential leader of the rebellion. That's why President Snow i think since the first games has thought that he would have been the real problem for the system. That's why he has been psychologically deviated: his brain is his real force. A real leader can use words better than the physical force. Snow knows that, and so he has kidnapped and tortured Peeta.

I kinda think prim might’ve lived, cus katniss was filled with so much rage at snow for what he had done to her, the games, her home, her friends and family and peetas torture was the tipping edge for her to go split from the group and go after snow herself. On top of that , she forced Coins hand by refusing to be the mockingjay if Peeta didn’t get rescued, which made Coin angry and through careful planning , prim was led to her death (or at least I do blame coin and partially gale, I know it’s still a theory over who’s at fault.)

I think that even if Peeta hadn't been tortured and hijacked Katniss would Have ended up with him. Gale was so unsensitive and Peeta was just the opposite and was kind and caring. You could tell just how uncomfortable Katniss was with the fact that Gale didn't think of those people under the nut in 2 as people. He didn't care that they would die. Peeta would have never done that. We all remember Katniss's face when she looked at Peeta after he had given the money to the fallen families of 11. Katniss said it herself in the end of the Mockingjay book that she would've ended up with Peeta eventually.

I think their lovestory would have been different to, Katniss is somebody who has extreme problems to trust other people and to open up to them. Therefore she needed to experience of loosing him while he is right before her, wich happened because of the torture. Because of this expirience she kewn then that she needed him so desperatly, that she was ready to finaly get together with him.

Based on how currupt President Coin was and how things turned out in the story, I wonder if Coin possibly had some sort of connection to president Snow. If not, it would be very unlikely that the rescue operation would have been a success as the capital has a fairly large supply of mutts. In addition, it was a bit of a coincidence that they were unabeale to rescue Catniss but not Pita.

If Peeta hadn't been hijacked i think the rescue mission would have failed and Snow would have had both the rescue team (Gale) and Peeta killed when they tried the rescue. I wonder what this would have done to Katniss, personally I think she would have given up.

If Peeta hadn’t been hijacked the Capitol wouldn’t let Gale and the rescuers get out that easily. Wouldn’t they have killed or captured Gale as well? And wouldn’t that mean Katniss was even more for not being the mockingjay?

I think Katniss and the rest of district 13 would have been dead because the reason he was hijacked was that he warned katniss about the bomb but maybe they just wouldn't have hijacked him but I believe they would've died

Wouldn't it have been smarter to not hijack peta, and shoot down the plane containing peeta and gale? This would mentally break Katniss, and without the mockingjay, people would lose inspiration and new troops wouldnt be convinced as well, and the whole rebellion mightve crumbled.

How did Peeta get captured anyway?! Why wasn't he with Finick? What happened to Beetee?!?!?!?!?!?!?! Is this covered in the 3rd book 📖 🤔

I think he ran when he heard the cannon, though I've been told he was the one who killed Brutus. But why didn't Finnick knock him out & cut out his tracker? Were they really concerned about Betee needing 2 male guards?

@@sarahswomley2580 so I looked it up after posting this sorry!!! And it turns out he tried to follow Finick but couldn't keep up. Then he accidentally found Brutus and had to fight him killing him. (He explains this in the 3rd book during an interview) he couldn't make it back to the tree in time so only Katnis, Finick, Beete were saved. Poor Peta

@@kristygoodman7790 Thank you, I've been listening to the e-book of Catching Fire, but haven't gotten to that part and sometimes I need to review things several times before understanding, which is probably why I tend to enjoy the movies more, though I did get through Mockingjay, but it left me with too many questions and some things I wish was in the movies were note and others I wish was.

I think that Peet’s himself can’t move people. He’s not that tall or intimidating or has a feminine look to him. I think that’s what helped Katniss be a rallying cry because she had this soft yet stern look and she had she was still very very feminine which gives a loving look to her as well even though she’s not and I think Peter needs someone like that to be the spearhead of whatever he’s trying to convey
