I had exactly similar thoughts. And I searched if there is a what if... I found something very interesting. Read miles morales volume 1. Parker is back, goblin too. I can never express how I felt when I saw him alive. Maybe I cried. Maybe screamed. Can't remember. What I can remember is the fighting with goblin. One of the best.

That would be really interesting. I think that if he never became sandman he would’ve been killed by Spider-Man in a fit of rage when he came after him. That would’ve sent Spider-Man on an even darker path than he was in the movie, and he might actually start killing criminals indiscriminately and become a murderer.

One problem I always had with the original Spider-Man is the Goblin's goals were never made very clear to me. Like, I understood that the Goblin embodied Norman's repressed anger and indignation, and killed the shareholders who wronged him, but...then what? He gives Spider-Man a really vague speech about "little people exist to lift the few exceptional people up" and says "think of all we could create together" but like...WHAT could they create? What were his actual goals before just "make Spider-Man suffer"?
