Horror aside, spiders would probley farmed like like sheep for their spider webs. We already do it, so larger spiders able to produce much more web would be a fantastic resource. Also spider meat would probably be more of a thing, just like we eat lobsters or crabs. We would probably wipe all spider of the planet expect those we are farming, and don't necessary have to worry about them going extinct since they lay ton of eggs. We would also try to breed them to be smaller which may work let's say about half the size of an adult human. Those spider would probably be sold to the public. Whether as a pet, entertainment, or meal. Gun control is far less, bug pesticide is farm more desirable, animal control is a more dangerous profession. Society would be so different especially if these things existed as the same time as our species was evolving to. So ancient tales of cavemen hunting spiders painted in cave walls.

Problem is, spiders have zero social instincts. They are predators that can be docile when handled by a human, but that is only because even a child can crush it in an instant. A spider would be far stronger and more dangerous to handle that a mammalian it's size due to it's carapace being able to withstand more damage (forget about crushing it with your hand). It also has multiple limbs and venomous bite. A cat sized spider would be dangerous, a human sized one? Forget it, unless you cut off it's limbs and remove their fangs.

the thing is spiders have "bookcase lungs" the current level of oxygen in the air wouldn't be enough for it to even be alive at that size due to how those types of lungs work. thats why most bugs are small

I used to have arachnophobia. 10 years ago. Right now I have 9 tarantulas and love it :) It took time but now I find them very interesting. But some of them still gives me the chills. But tarantulas are fine for me :)

If spiders were the size of humans, I think that they still wouldn't be much of an issue outside of trapdoor spiders. Spider exoskeletons are considerably weak and would absolutely be vulnerable to small firearms. Spiders that catch prey in sticky webs could be countered by having a group of people walking in a single file line. If the person in front gets caught in a web, then a couple of people behind him could help get him unstuck while the rest wait and shoot the spider if it makes an appearance. Spiders that hunt like tarantulas do can simply be shot on sight. The only spiders that I can't think of a counter for would be trapdoor spiders, as the only way to know where they are hiding would be to have them actually attack someone, but once they show themselves once, they'll be fairly easy to kill using explosives or gas.

I held a Chilian Rose tarantula at a pet shop to get over my fear of spiders. Well I did after it did its defensive posture with the fang thing but it was scared. But it calmed down and crawled on my hands and couldn't even feel it. That was the real creepy part. Then I held it in my palms and I was shaking. It didn't bite. I think it fell asleep. Would I do it again? Nope! Are spiders still creepy? Yup! Am I scared of them any more? Nope! Thank you Chilian Rose tarantula.

@@saviyounpeters1948 They'd be crushed under their own weight (see: square-cube law) and would move like pond water in the Arctic. Also, spiders do not have the same type of lungs like mammals; they breathe passively (diffusively), as opposed to the inhalation/exhalation diaphragmatic movement in mammals. A spider can "run" for a distance, but will soon run "out of breath" or die of exhaustion, which I have seen.

If spiders were the size of humans and nothing else changed? They’d starve to death or at least would have to be more cannibalistic than they are. They couldn’t sustain themselves. Also arachnophobia is possibly an ancient defense mechanism/instinct that helped to keep us alive as early humans.

There is not enough oxygen in the atmosphere to support a human sized spider. They don't have lungs, so they depend on the natural movement of air passing through little vents in their exoskeleton to breath. (kind of like gills) Insects were larger in the prehistoric eras because there was a higher concentration of oxygen in the atmosphere then.

I was playing a game and I kept being killed even though all I did was heal other players and eventually, I had enough and felt like I was not scared of anything, that's how I got over my fear of Spiders. Don't be speciesist, most cannot harm Humans, Humans are not the only species populating Earth, Earth's actual population is the combined population of all Earthly species. The most venomous Spider is the Brazilian Wandering Spider. Size makes no difference. If Insects went extinct, so would Planet Earth itself.

If spiders were as big as humans they would die. The air doesn't have a high enough oxygen content for spiders and insects to anything close to that big. Their system just isn't built to pull enough oxygen out of the air to support bodies that big,

If spiders where that big I would feel pretty bad for them as they would suffocate immediately due to the fact that there is not enough oxygen in the air for them to sustain that size with how they breathe. The largest land dwelling arthropod I think is a coconut crab at the size of a small dog and they are pushing the upper limit. But it would be terrible if spiders were that size and moving around

@@PokemonFreaaakkk187 I may be able to answer that question. Its a matter of needs of the size of the body. In our atmosphere, they can breathe normally and survive based on their current size. But if they were bigger, they'd need more oxygen, or at least more densely packed oxygen to support themselves. Millions of years ago, Earth's atmosphere was actually thicker, hence why bugs and in this case spiders got to larger sizes. Thus, is a larger spider from back then were to be put into our currrent day Earth, the air would be too thin for it.
