I always felt so sad for Ripley, how the Xenomorph dominated her whole life, took her away from her daughter, she spent her adult life fighting it, still having massive psychological trauma from what she went through, and even after death she was cloned and brought back half alien.

Ripley's being a stickler for the rules indicates her naivety as to exactly how far the company would go to secure a sample for its bio weapons division. Part of the horror here is watching all that come crashing down as she begins to sob uncontrollably after confronting ash in that computer room and realizing that he's been protecting the creature under company orders. Seems this is the first time the company overtly sacrificed a human crew and gave an android full control of a mission. They called the computer Mother but its seems mommy's new roll was to cast away the people and nurture a monster. That's a horror that seemed to go missing in the other films. They were doomed from the very beginning because they were sent to get the creature.

"Oh man those are some weird eggs, let's get out of here. Yeah you're right Ripley let's go" *credits roll*

So ironically, if the company didn’t interfere with having Ash open the doors, they would of had the xenomorph long ago.

They probably already had the coordinates. Ash was a last minute addition to the crew, replacing the regular science officer which is highly unusual. Ripley even comments on this. This indicates Weyland-Yutani was already aware of the situation before the crew even left on their journey. Ash was also likely in semi-regular contact with WY.

If Ripley followed quarantine, the Alien would have been birthed, with nowhere to hide, the burster would have been vulnerable. After the initial shock, Dallas or Lambert would have opened the airlock, and it likely would have run to hide somewhere close, likely still on the ship. After quarantine, they would have been allowed back on the ship, and scanned for embryos, turning up negative. Once taken off, the beast would have went into hibernation somewhere on the ship. The crew returns to hyper sleep, and on to earth, after jettisoning Kane's body as it was in the movie. Somehow, MUTHR knows the creature is still attached to the ship, and sends an encrypted message back to WY. The ship is held at a WY checkpoint in the outer planets, the crew is debriefed and sent back to earth on a shuttle that can take all but 3 of the Nostromo crew, Ripley, Dallas, and Parker draw the short straws, and await another cargo transport expected within 3 days. WY reps find the hibernating beast, and capture it in a stasis pod for study. Shit goes wrong, and cue 'Alien' to happen anyway.

The arguments are convincing about the outcome. However, at that outcome, the three victim is more than necessary. Dallas and Lambert must not be infected, because their suits were still intact, so no quarantine law would prohibit them to get into the ship. And also a chest burster never tries to combat if not necessary, it endeavours to hide until it grows adult. So after they witnessed the violent birth of the xenomorph, they could immediately go to the dropship, and leave the whole monstrosity behind, because the chest burster wouldn't attack them. It would have been a kind of "happier" and in the Alien franchise.

Great video,....however: A 'casualty' is when one is in a medically required/treated status and returning to full status after recuperation. A 'fatality' is where someone is deceased -and also Captain Dallas never gave Ash an order to follow

I would have x rayed Kane after he woke up instead of assuming that a creature that stuck to his face, kept him alive and then just left him and died for no obvious reason. Ripley was smart and thinking outside the box but this was a rookie and and highly unlikely chain of events upon Kane waking. I know it was necessary to move the plot on, but this is the only stupid part in Alien for me. Still one of the scariest and brilliant films ever, the whole film is a rollercoaster ride of anxiety and fear. Not many films can achieve this for the full movie, we only catch a break the moment Kane wakes and after the Alien is ejected from the airlock.

That is... if the xenomorph didn't hide in the Nostromo's landing gear before it takes off and everything goes more or less as it did originally.

For Ash, if "all other considerations were rescinded," and if Ripley's authorization were required, and if he couldn't convince her... Well, then I would think he'd just murder everyone else inside but her, then force her to open the door, then kill her, then kill Dallas and Lambert once they had boarded.

You're right, they would have enough time, could keep it relatively secret AND no one would be questioning their motives. Cuz, these procedures were probably triggered and used a few times before - just not with something as dangerous as these xenomorphs.

Your analysis is spot on and very precise. Had Ripley had here way the aliens would have made to earth and eventually failed containment.

I liked you idea that Ash would try to open to door and let Dallas and the rest in but Ripley already overrode the controls and the door would not open with her override. The three would remain in the airlock for the quarantined 24 hours and follow their quarantine procedure and increase the suspense of the movie. The face hugger would keep Kane alive for that 24 hours. The extra time would allow the creature to grow and things would make more sense with a better time line. Then the movie would proceed like it did.

Magnificent sequence, brilliant and thought-provoking. If I were in Ripley's shoes, I would probably haven taken the risk and not complied with the quarantine procedure: human life is sacred, I wouldn't let my friends die.

Ash trying to say that emotions and feelings should be used to make decisions over established rules is absolutely baffling. That's literally what you don't want to do because there's a pretty good chance it's gonna be the wrong decision.

All they had to do was think first, it was simple. First they could have brought the body back outside. Both come in the chamber, get scanned, get sprayed down to decontaminate themselves, while doing this the crew could have gotten a medical capsule ready by the door. Once the scanners cleared the two of them as cleared and cleansed, open the hatch so the 4 of them could grab the capsule with other medical supplies. Put it in the chamber with any 2 crew members who had the proper health training, close the inside hatch then reopen the outer hatch. The 2 of them could put the body with the face hugger inside the medical capsule, re-enter the ship with everything, now get decontaminated again along with all the equipment. Once the scanner cleared them both along with the body inside the capsule along with the gear, then bring them aboard !! Now everyone is safe plus nothing came aboard that could harm them. Put the body with capsule in a sealed medical room, now do what needs to be done but at least this way the face hugger along with the host can be watched, treated etc. Once he wakes up and the hugger is dead, you still keep them both inside the capsule!! Scan him again inside the chamber at this point you can tell if something is wrong with him or inside him !! Put the dead hugger inside a special bio-hazard container to store it for a safe secure travel home. Now with the host, either he is cleared by the scanner or not, you can either let him out if clear or keep him inside the capsule if not. Surprise ! No one dies, they bring home the host, hugger, coordinates of the planet, the payload, plus a healthy crew along with the ship in one piece undamaged ! Ta - da ! See all profits but then again no movie either lol At least this is how we did it back in the day from our training……

I don't believe Ripley would ask for anyones input (she didn't in regard of the airlock situation), she would leave them there (because of the reasons you said) and that would be the end of it. There would be nothing to discuss. If anything, she would leave them supplies (via alternative delivery, another airlock for example) for mercies sake, but this would just postpone the inevitable.

This is why I love the first two films so much. You care so much about what's going on that you ask questions like this. Good writing and engaging characters. Unlike the new Ridley Scott "films". What a mess.

Answer: The Nostromo would still be a scary ship without the alien on board. I mean seriously, did you see some of the rooms of that ship? I'd carry a flame thrower with me on that ship everywhere I'd go even if I knew for sure there was nothing on the ship that would harm me. Especially the rooms where Brett gets taken and the deleted scene where Ripley finds Dallas and Brett cocooned. The fact that the crew walks around these areas nonchalantly before the alien's arrival boggles my mind. They did a good job making the Nostromo a major character in the film.

When the facehugger fell off he would still been brought on board. Unless there are other regulations in place. The only hope would be if the chest burster emerges and runs off. This is new territory I've never seen what a single xenomorph would do if no queen was present and wasn't cornered in some way. At any length the company would be suspicious of any actions taken.

Letting Dallas, Kane, and Lambert back in? To quote Tony Stark: "Not a good plan."

The Company wouldn't have lost the co-ordinates to LV 426. They were the ones who re routed the Nostromo to those co ordinates on its return from Thedus. They knew perfectly where it was. A small planetoid just short of Zeta II Reticuli which is a real astral body 39 light years from Earth.

I still wondering ... Ash purpose was to have alien on board. What if Kane did not find the hole in spaceship so he was not attacked by facehuger and all crew members just came back to the Nostromo withou alien?

It gets on the ship, either way. They eventually have to open the outer door, where it seems to run off and climbs up the landing gear.

What if scenario: What if Janek didn't down the engineer ship at the end of Prometheus and it took off unimpeded? My view is that it'd either result in Prometheus returning home for an aftermath scenario similar to what the crew of the covenant found (assuming the engineer really did intend to wipe out earth) which would likely prevent or severely derail anything weyland corp had planned for the future, though its possible the company would be able to relocate off-world and would now have even stronger reasons for finding alien technology to weaponize.

Considering the fate which awaited Brett in the deleted scene I'm not surprised he said 'Right'. I wonder if he was conscious during his 'transformation'. Actually, I'd rather not think about it.

I think Ripley, Parker and Brett would have figured out a way to rig up a quarantine room in the airlock or something to get Lambert and Dallas on board then take off. Of course this would have resulted in the Alien getting on the Nostromo anyways by stowing away on the exterior or maybe even getting inside via the landing gear. If you recall, in the director's cut, Ripley finds Dallas and Brett cocooned in the landing gear stowage area deep inside the ship so this would easily be a way in for the alien.

Basically, some people die, more people survive. The movie would be about a different ship going to a planet to find the survivors.

Hi, Alien Theory. Love your videos. But you have to rethink Lambert's and Dallas' fate. Foster's novellization mentions that the minimum crew needed to take off is four person. That's why Dallas takes only three for reconnaissance. Now if Ash is taken down, only three remains, so they can't take off with the Nostromo. In that case they either risk to let Lambert and Dallas back, or give up reaching home and send out their own SOS and go back to the hibernation capsules. As they were 10 months away from the Earth, the first choice seems to be more probable for me. For waiting for a rescue mission unconscious knowing nothing when and if it will be undertaken at all would be outbalanced by the fact that only one parasite attacked Kane and Dallas and Lambert would have probably avoided contact with the newborn baby alien and so would have that avoided contact with them, just like it avoided it after being born inside the ship in the canteen. But I think we have no knowledge when exactly the facehugger died how much more Kane spent being unconscious and how long after regaining it was the alien born. To me it seemed to be more than a day. But Parker and Brett estimated the repair to be undertaken in 25 hours and they finished their work with Ripley's help when Kane woke up and felt the hunger. It is hard to estimate whether it was earlier or later than 24 hours after the return of Dallas and Lambert with Kane's body, because it is also unknown how long the recon trip took. I think there is a fair chance that sticking to the quarantain rules would have saved 5 of them altogether. Unless I missed something. But provided Ash had been successfully destroyed and Dallas and Lambert remained outside the ship Ripley would have to work on Mother to discover why the hell was Ash attacking her and why was he disguised as a regular crewmember despite being an android. We know later Ripley was somehow able to crack the classification of the special order 937 and learn that W-Y's take of the mission. It is reasonable to assume she could have done it earlier too, had it been a known issue to her. Which would have sadly forced the company of taking care of any number of survivors returning to Earth.

The alien and crew fate were sealed when the crew brought on board the ship. Even if some of the crew survived the massacre when they got back to Earth. The company would slap a gag order to the survivors or killed them all so the company would carried out experiments on the alien to make them the perfect killer worker as the company pawn.

Tend to like to think of how things would’ve gone with different sole survivors. Find it interesting to think of such scenarios and how they’d react to the escalating situation when they were the only person left alive with a hostile alien.

If they were kept in confinement until the chestburster broke out then I do not think it would have had anywhere to hide and been smashed to a pulp by the others in isolation. Of course the Acid may have cause a few minor problems but the ship and crew -1 would have been intact , where they go from there ?

This video makes me wonder why none of the crew became even more suspect of Ash, when they're asking him for advice, after the dinner scene. His mention of its "nutritional requirements" has always bothered me.

Ripley was absolutely. What would I have done with Cain; left him outside. By the time the Face Hugger attached it was over anyway.

If they kept the quarantine in effect the whole movie would have been about the moral dilemma of leaving a man to die outside only to be proven correct by a chestburster at the end.😆

I would have jettisoned Kane in to space. I would do whatever it too to keep the infection off the ship. Whatever it took.

Nostromo didn't land on lv426. It was a smaller landing vessel at least in the movie.

The surviving nostromo crew would “disappear” one day … W-Y wouldn’t leave any possibility that anybody else could get wind of this.

Implied in the Director’s cut that Lambert might’ve been in a “relationship” with Kane and Ripley was in a “relationship” with Dallas. When Kane’s life was at risk, Ripley wanted to protect the crew. What if Dallas had returned with the Facehugger attached? She sure seemed cut up when he was pleading with her to kill him. Also, what if all the BS Ash fed the crew about the alien likely being afraid of fire, or the motion detector being an effective way of tracking it were revealed to be just that - how would the sequels have looked?

Always wondered why the Captain AND his 1. Officer had to go out.

a plot hole between alien and aliens is how come the distress / warning beacon that was detected not get picked up by the settlers in aliens ? thay say thay had been there over 20 years.

Did they not prove that this was not enough to keep them safe in a later sequel ? The chestburster came out and still endangered the life of the pilot. I think this could have been avoided if they had instead refused to answer the signal … even if that would have ended with them getting sued and not payed.

Just a press of a button spawned three more Alien sequels and a game.

Ash, Dallas, and Cain has entered the ship, they were exploring the ship and went their separate ways and Cain still got the face hugger... They decided to go back to the ship, Dallas and Ash carrying Cain... " Open the damn doors ! " Dallas screamed over the com system in his suit.. " We have a medical emergency.. " "'Negative ! " , Ripley replied over the other end of the com system inside the Nostromo looking at the viewer.... Cain has the face hugger on his face " Permission is denied, you cannot enter... We do not know what you are bringing aboard.... " " Dammit Ripley open the door .. " , Dallas begins to get angry.. "Open the damn doors now ... " " No I cannot not until 24 hours.." Ripley is sad as well because she is following orders.. " Sorry Dallas, you, Ash and Cain have to wait... "

Alien never supposed to be onboard. Crew ( Captain himself) breached security protocol in the most harsh way . Such approach would be prized by suspending of license not only crew involved, but WY as well.

" Ripley open the doors and let Dallas in before he gets affected... I cannot get affected because I am an android, and I promise you I will reveal to you what I am truly..., Ash took off his helmet.. Ripley, I am an android, who was programmed by mother to activate 937 and protect this alien, that has affected Cain.." After Ash revealed everything to her, she quickly opened the doors to only let Dallas in... Ash stepped back holding Cain as the Nostromo lifted upwards.. Dallas went to his seat to pilot the ship while Ripley sat in her chair and Bret went to the engineering room .. Lambert went back to the communication to see what other signals... Dallas, Ripley, Brett, Parker, and Brett decided to shoot another beacon towards the planet to warn other ships not to approach the planet because it is too dangerous to colonize, or live on the planet....

Ash is the most under appreciated villain in history. Completely overshadowed by the alien, but Ash was the real monster. The alien quite simply had no morality.

Parker and Brett would have got off the Nostromo and got a beer at a local pub.

Seems like one of the only people on that ship with common sense was Parker. They should have froze Kane once they stupidly let him on the ship. Dallas was a lousy captain btw.

No Gorman grenade, they don't lost Newt and all escape in the lift to the surface and the drop ship with Bishop. No going back for Newt, no alien Queen fight, no egg on board, no malfunction, no ejected pods, no Alien 3 and no Alien Resurrection!

ok as a former member of the US navy there are real world paralles to the quaritine that was in alien and they are in place for very good reasons and any captin or crewman that would break quaritine would find them selves in front of a court marshal board
