I live in Cali I hate both teams (especially SF) There would be major problems. Maybe later on down the line it wouldn’t matter but yeah. However, the rivalry itself would be entertaining
I like it. Preserving the rivalries is the tough part. Maybe 6 division games, 3 rivalry games, 4 games vs a select rotating division and 4 games based on schedule.
As a Dolphins fan I like it but like i I said I’d prefer us in the Southeast Division but most likely the Jaguars will probably relocate to another city so it would be Dolphins Buccaneers Falcons and Panthers would the Dolphins move to the NFC or will the Buccaneers Falcons and Panthers would come to the AFC? Either way the NFL has to tweak the divisions and soon they gotta get it right so it can make sense geographically
AFC North too. It makes more sense currently than this realignment. Pittsburgh is only two hours drive from Cleveland and fourish from both Baltimore and Cincinnati. The furthest distance is an 8 hour drive between Cincy and Baltimore. Obviously all the teams are flying a lot but Buffalo is kind of remote, it makes more sense for them to be in his Great Lakes Division.
Miss Tampa they were our fifth team despite thier early struggles by thier fourth season they made nfc championship game. Wish we could get Tampa or Dallas in NFC North Dallas has had good rivalry with Vikings since the 70s they met often in postseason whoever won was SB bound. Both teams made frequent appearances in that game only one time through the decade wAshington did a outside team make sb. Later pokes built up one with packers.. the nfc north is only division where the chief rival for every team is the bears. Wonder who chief rival for bears? Just a thought. Can be outside of division they had a heated rivalry with Duluth Eskimos/Washington redskins now commanders. Vikings tried to do an alternative Eskimo uniform nfl stopped them saying trademark belong to Washington. When they folded they were sold and turned out to be redskins upon deeper research. Loved the Eskimos uniform my grandfather had an original uniform in glass. If not the Bucs or Dallas would be Denver if we’re going by proximity.
All you need is the dolphins and the colts to swap- and the cowboys and panthers to swap and most of the divisions will make sense without destroying rivalries
yea but sadly the nfc east is the most iconic division in football tbh i don’t think it could ever be split up. as a cowboys fan, i’d miss our free wins to the giants and commanders every other yead
@@NikTheHill7 ….Really? I agree with you on the iconic but the other reason is a terrible reason to stay in your division. Also funny how you didn’t mention the Eagles.😂
I've always wanted this as a Dolphins fan. The ONLY reason we are still in the east is because of the Buffalo Rivalry. But we could keep that as a guaranteed game every year like the chargers. Dolphins should be in the south.
@@pheonox14 - Actually, I think New England and the Jets are bigger rivals of the Dolphins than bleeping BUFFALO! But I can certainly understand why Miami MIGHT give a shit about them due to Marino vs. Kelly from back in the day. Otherwise, only the Toronto/Hamilton metro actually gives a crap about the icehole known as Buffalo in pro sports, and even then, the rivalries with metros like Boston, New York, Montreal, Detroit and Ottawa are bigger. Too bad for the Bills that the Argonauts and especially the Tiger-Cats play in the CFL (remember that exhibition game the Ti-Cats won when the Bills were still new in the early 1960's?).
@@NikTheHill7 - The only reason it's "iconic", is because of how NOTORIOUS a franchise the Cowboys are that the northeast metros are willing to make an acceptation of having a Texas team in their division. Tell me, how big is the Rangers "rivalries" with the Yankees, Orioles, and Red Sox; the Mavericks "rivalries" with the Knicks, 76ers, and Wizards; and the Stars "rivalries" with the Rangers, Flyers, and Capitals? Remember, your original GM, Tex Schramm was a master POLITICIAN that managed to successfully get the Cowboys into the East in 1961 (after playing in the West in 1960), and has been there ever since. His successor, Jerry Jones is "meet the new boss, same as the old". Personally, I'd like to know, which *longshot* scenario is more likelier to happen? Dallas moving to another division, or Dallas relocates to a northeast city like Hartford or Quebec?
As a Niners fan, your pacific division is an emotional roller coaster and I love it. Each of those teams are huge rivals to the Niners. And your Midwest division would be so fun in the present moment. Watching Mahomes have to face Cousins and Rodgers twice a year would be good TV
Fun Concept! As a Niners fan, I would switch the Chargers and Raiders. Raiders may be in Las Vegas now, but the Oakland roots run deep and so is the SF-Oakland rivalry. Having 2 games per season with guaranteed gang-related activity is never a good idea.
@@georgec5212 "What type of people can’t not kill each other over a football game?" The same group of people that make up 13% of the united states population but commit 58% of all violent crime
There are NFL rules preventing the Steelers, Browns, and Bengals from being in different divisions. They all must be in the same division regardless of any alignment changes.
for the Greatlakes div i would've made it Lions Bills Browns for the last one ether Chicago or GB, but i see how that could throw off other div alignments so probably do PIT and the "Atlantic" would change names and be Cincy, Indy, WAS and BAL
Actually, Baltimore could have escaped the division without penalty in 2002, only problem is, Cleveland was not going to let them off the hook; and they definitely took advantage of the proximity between Pittsburgh and Baltimore too, to get the Rooney's on their side.
Great thought experiment! Instead of reinventing the wheel, I would have Dallas n Carolina swap. That alone fixes NFC. As for AFC… Dolphins joins South, Colts joins north, and Ravens joins East. Keeps consistency n allows for closer teams.
the cowboys and texans should be in the same divison, we already hate each other due to instate rivalry, so it would be great to play each other twice a year
A SuperBowl simulation so realistic, it even includes horrible clock and timeout management. Could have had an extra 16 seconds to work with if the Eagles called their first timeout before the 4th down play.
As a Dolphins fan living in Atlanta, I wish we and the Falcons played in the same diction and had a rivalry. I would love the chance to go to a game a year.
I'm a diehard Dolphins fan in Orlando, but I would definitely consider doing the drive to Atlanta every season for that game if it was real. Simply because that stadium in Atlanta is so amazing. Hard Rock is great too but I'm not sure that many are on the level of Mercedes Benz Stadium.
Names are very generic and the 16 game format is best tbh. You should keep the AFC and NFC and NSEW directions too. A few circles could be done differently but this is one option. I always used to wonder about this. Glad someone tried it out
Watching this now is crazy because the 2 and 7 niners Seahawks actually played. Bengals are going to play the bills. And the most likely final 4 are facing eachother just in different conferences. Basically 2 super bowls
How about, *NL West* San Jose 49ers Denver Broncos Los Angeles Rams Phoenix Cardinals *NL North* Cincinnati Bengals Chicago Bears Pittsburgh Steelers Green Bay Packers *NL South* Miami Dolphins Atlanta Falcons Jacksonville Jaguars New Orleans Saints *NL East* New York Giants Charlotte Panthers Philadelphia Eagles Washington Commanders *AL West* Las Vegas Raiders Kansas City Chiefs Anaheim Chargers of Los Angeles Seattle Seahawks *AL North* Detroit Lions Minnesota Vikings Cleveland Browns Indianapolis Colts *AL South* Dallas Cowboys Tampa Bay Buccaneers Houston Texans Nashville Titans *AL East* Buffalo Bills New Jersey Jets Baltimore Ravens Boston Patriots I'm sure you can figure out what this is a reference to.
I like the realignment. Didn't care for a few of the play off s and super bowl match up and the result, though...lol. still a number of teams in the league without a super bowl victory. Hoping to reduce that number by one this year with either a Buffalo or Cincinnati win...
Very interesting to think about. Have you ever wondered what a 40 team, 21 week (20 game 1 by week) would be like? To that question: Would St. Louis get a team again? Would they expand to Canada and/or Mexico?
This is a great idea. It’s never made sense to me why the Cowboys are in the East division. And the Rangers are in the West division even tho their stadiums are RIGHT next to each other.
My proposal would be: West Coastal - LAC, LAR, SF, SEA Gulf - DAL, HOU, NO, ATL Midwest - GB, CHI, DET, MIN Southwest - ARZ, LV, DEN, KC EAST Southeast - CAR, MIA, JAX, TB Northeast - BUF, NE, NYG, NYJ Mid-Atlantic - PHI, PIT, BAL, WSH Central - TEN, CIN, CLE, IND Still gives a nice geographic split while preserving a decent number of rivalries and turning some geographic rivals into divisional as well: DAL/HOU/NO, BUF/NYG, NYG/NE, PIT/PHI, BAL/WSH, FLAx3. Could be really fun lol
@@youtubeemployeesarestupid3464 yeah, you have a good point with the timezone. I debated on Atlanta for the longest of any team for sure. Falcons and Titans each would fit very well with Texas/NO. In the end, I decided it close enough geographically that it was worth it to keep the ATL/NO rivalry in tact. Atlanta being eastern time is a very good argument to make the swap, though.
bro this is crazy. the final 4 teams in the conference championships are actually in the real life conference championships, just swap 49ers and Bengals and it’s EXACT
This would be my division realignment: AFC North: Pittsburgh Steelers, Cleveland Browns, Cincinnati Bengals, Indianapolis Colts AFC South: Jacksonville Jaguars, Houston Texans, Tennessee Titans, Miami Dolphins AFC East: New England Patriots, New York Jets, Buffalo Bills, Baltimore Ravens AFC West: Kansas City Chiefs, Los Angeles Chargers, Denver Broncos, Las Vegas Raiders NFC North: Green Bay Packers, Minnesota Vikings, Detroit Lions, Chicago Bears NFC South: New Orleans Saints, Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Atlanta Falcons, Dallas Cowboys NFC East: New York Giants, Philadelphia Eagles, Washington Commanders, Carolina Panthers NFC West: San Francisco 49ers, Seattle Seahawks, Los Angeles Rams, Arizona Cardinals The Colts would move to the AFC North. The Dolphins would move to the AFC South. The Ravens would move to the AFC East. The Cowboys would move to the NFC South. The Panthers would move to the NFC East. The AFC West, NFC North, and NFC West would stay the same. Just my take.
This would be a very lucrative move for the NFL especially on the east coast because fans will road trip to support their teams on the road. However, it may cause more violence in the stands for teams with intense rivals
As a New Orleans Saints fan, I don't mind this, as long as we're keeping the Saints and Falcons in the same division. We obviously don't like the Panthers or Buccaneers either, but they aren't our "archrivals". Long as we keep that traditional Southern rivalry going between the Crescent City and A-Town, I'll be happy. We love to hate each other, and I wouldn't have it any other way. Cheers!
You can’t have realignment based on geography and have two teams in the same city in separate divisions. This is how I would do it while basing it off both geography and rivals. 1. Seahawks, 49ers, Rams and Chargers 2. Raiders, Cardinals, Broncos and Chiefs. 3. Cowboys, Texans, Saints and Falcons. 4. Bears, Lions, Vikings, Packers 5. Dolphins, Bucs, Jaguars and Panthers. 6. Titans, Colts, Bengals, Browns. 7. Steelers, Ravens, Commanders, Eagles. 8. Jets, Giants, Bills, Patriots.
With the exception of the NFC north. That actually does make sense, Chicago, Detroit, Minneapolis, and Green Bay, all northern cities, all in the same region too.
Nice video! I would’ve swapped the Raiders and Chargers since the Chargers are actually on the Pacific. And you also paired the New York teams so pairing the LA teams would make sense as well
I didn't know the NFL only played high school schedules I thought there were 17 weeks that they played and one week off must just be 14 game seasons... Do a little more research before you make a video like this it would be way more entertaining if you set the seedings in the playoff bracket right with the Vikings being 11-3 on the season tying with the Chiefs in your scenario it would still put them at the #2 seed.... RU-vid plz don't recommend this channel for me ever again.
I dig. I wanna see the bloodbath that is the new northeast division, seeing Philly pubstomp the jets and pats. It’ll make meadowlands a constantly good place for constantly good games
It's a fun exercise, I'm sure most of us have thought about it before, but the NFL would never go for this. They want each conference to have teams from every coast and region in the country. The California and NY areas are the strongest for TV ratings, and the better the TV ratings, the more money they make on network deals. Trying to make up 2 conferences that have divisions based solely on location just will never happen. Also, to your point about travel.. they play once a week, and it's not like the other pro sports that play multiple times in a single week. Only having 8 away games in a season, and most aren't even that far of a plane ride makes travel pretty much a non-issue.
Not bad, I like fun exercises like this.I would suggest changing the title “Central” to “Southwest”. Also, if you wanted a proper more accurate “Great Lakes” Division , that would actually go to Green Bay , Chicago, Detroit, and Cleveland as all 4 of those teams reside on the Great Lakes. You can still have a “Midwest” Division as Minn, K.C. Indy and Cincinnati all still qualify to some degree as being “Midwest” Everything else you drew up could stay as you have it.
Great idea. You could have made it even MORE eco friendly by keeping teams in the same state together Pacific: SEA, 49ers, LAR, LAC Central: LVR, ARI, DEN, KC Confederate: DAL, HOU, TEN, NOS Great Lakes: GB, CHI, MIN, DET North: BUF, NE, NYG, NYG Atlantic: CAR, WAS, BAL, PHI Happy Endings: PIT, IND, CIN, CLE South: MIA, TB, JAX, ATL
Not bad for realignments for this exercise. You could question why even have conferences in this scenario. Just have a longer rotation of playing other divisions evenly… each division would play all other divisions 3 times each over the course of 7 years. Reverse the schedule, home/away for the next 7 years, and so on. Playoffs are just combined teams… top 2 get a bye, the other 12 play in the first round. Something like this probably should have been done in 1970, way too late to implement this now given established divisional rivalries.
Alright everyone, listen up! We all know the Dallas Cowboys are NOT leaving the NFC East as none of the NFC East owners would agree to it (especially the Jones' themselves). The question is this. Which LONGSHOT scenario is more likelier to happen, a) The Cowboys moving to another division, or b) The Cowboys relocating to a northeast city like say, Hartford or Quebec? Post your response.
This is almost perfect. The finishing touch should be to swap the Chargers and Raiders. Putting Chargers in Pacific would keep the L.A. teams together as you did for the New York teams.
If any one does remember.. DALLAS was suppose to move division back in 95 when Carolina and Jacksonville join the league BUT Jerry threw a tantrum because of his rival games which didn't make sence.... Dallas was to be in the NFC south moving Carolina up into the east but Jerry 😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭 Like a baby... Look now they would win that division every year
Great video. Actually, I have a couple of NFL themed dynasty leagues, in which the teams are aligned, geographically much like you have. Both are sixteen team leagues 4 divisions. One league has alignments as East- NYJ, NYG, NE, WAS. North- CHI, DET, GB, CIN. South- DAL, ATL, JAX, CAR. West- OAK, LAR, SD, SF.
"classic rivalries" would be forgotten within a season or two as NEW rivalries are made. The truth is conferences AND divisions should both be gone. You just have one large league. Everyone gets 17 different opponents every season(or however many games they decide to have going forward). Then you seed playoffs by record. That's it.... so simple. It allows for every fanbase to see 17 different opponents each season. So your local team will have played the entire league within a 2 year span. This also allows the possibility of ANY two teams meeting in the Super Bowl. This IS the best way to run sports, all sports... no matter what anyone else says. No free passes into the playoffs. you either have a winning record, or you don't get in!
A lot of the divisions are the way they are because the groupings were put together decades ago. The idea of separating the Lions from the NFC North is heresy, given that the Lions, Packers, and Bears have all been together in a division since 1934, and the Vikings have been grouped with the other three since their 1961 inception. The Cowboys being put in the same division as the Giants, Eagles, and then-Redskins probably has something to do with Clint Murchison's purchase of the rights to "Hail to the Redskins." In the AFC, the current East division is the old AFL Eastern division minus the former Oilers/current Titans, and the current West division is exactly the original AFL West (minus the Bengals in the last couple years of the AFL). At least the egregious mis-alignments of the 1970s through 1990s were fixed in the 2002 realignment. You may recall the formerly "Phoenix," now "Arizona" Cardinals having been in the NFC East until 2001 -- but probably didn't know about George Halas' role in that. When the NFL expanded to 12 teams after World War II and the collapse of the AAFC, Halas refused to allow his then crosstown rival Chicago Cardinals to be in the Western Division along with his Bears. The Cardinals thus developed rivalries with the Giants, Eagles, and then-Redskins, which persisted through their move to St. Louis, the addition of the Cowboys, the merger, and even their move to Phoenix.
NFC West - Seahawks, 49ers, Rams, Chargers AFC West - Cardinals, Broncos, Chiefs, Raiders NFC North - Vikings, Lions, Bears, and Packers (it's good as it is) AFC North - Colts, Bengals, Browns, Titans NFC East - Steelers, Eagles, Ravens, Commanders AFC East - Bills, Giants, Jets, Patriots NFC South - Cowboys, Texans, Saints, Falcons AFC South - Bucs, Dolphins, Jags, Panthers That's my pick for realignment. It makes more sense geographically and gets all in state teams in the same divisions to create new rivalries.
Not a bad idea but I would do it a little differently, preserving traditional rivalries better while still being geographically efficient. West: Seahawks, Niners, Rams, Chargers Raiders, Broncos, Cards, Chiefs Cowboys Texans, Saints, Titans Vikings, Packers, Bears, Lions East: Browns, Steelers, Bengals, Colts Pats, Bills, Jets, Giants Eagles, Ravens, Commanders, Panthers Falcons, Jags, Dolphins, Bucs
Dude... So close... Pacific: SF, LAR, LAC, SEA (all WC teams) Central: LV, AZ, DEN, KC (division stays pretty much the same, but swaps AZ for LAC) Southern: DAL, TEX, NO, ATL North: MIN, GB, CHI, DET (division stays the same) Mideast: CLE, IND, CIN, TEN Northeast: NYG, NYJ, NE, PHI Atlantic: BUF, PIT, BAL, WAS Southeast: MIA, TB, JAX, CAR
all good ideas, I really like this channel keep up the great work! (what do you mean the colts aren't close to the great lakes they touch lake michigan)
