I'm guessing the Inklings would just have to live semi-primitively in dark caves underground, because their technology isn't at the same level as what the Octarians' is. Just a theory though.
I always thought the real reason the Inklings won was because they had allies. I could believe a lot of the tech Inklings were using during The Great Turf War originally came from collaborating with their allies so I think the real deciding factor wasn't "Inklings originally had the better tech" it was actually "Inklings were more open to alliance", which wouldn't be unbelievable seeing as 100 years later they're willing to let bygones be bygones with the Octarians. Inklings are so chill they're pretty much the capybaras of the sapient species in the setting (so long as territory isn't an issue, evidently...). As per how their societies would have differed under those circumstances: Perhaps you've hit the nail on the head for the Octarians, they are more serious and structured compared to a lot of the other species but as per the Inklings? Who's to say they'd stay lazy? Their laidback attitude could shift to patience and create a case of "Different Faces, Same Story" as they turn to trying to survive and figure out how to use this ancient tech they've stumbled upon in Inkling Valley. Which... That does create the possibility that peace between the Octarians and the Inklings would be impossible because the Inklings would have lost both the leverage and the willingness to settle for peace whereas the Octarians, having the many subtypes that they do within their own species, would likely continue to not feel a need to forge strong alliances with others. Sad for the Octarians, but perhaps it was for the best that if The Great Turf War had to happen that the Inklings were the winners, it ended up being best for every species 100 years down the line.
Inklings are considered to be pretty dumb well at least the squid kids. During the great turf war they seemed to have war tech equal to the octolings. Though they stoped using it. The octolings kept developing theres. Inklings are more advanced when it comes to general living standards while octolings are more advanced in war tech and to some degree mind control and bio engineering
Honestly i think that if the octarians won octavio wouldn't be the government but maybe play a more sideline role like captain cuttlefish does in the actual game, after all, the capn won but he definitely isn't president
Here is another question/theory: What the hell is up with the mothership? All we know is that it has the ability to summon an infinite amount of salmonids that carry containers that contain a larger amount of salmonids than it should be able to hold. Why is the mothership so much different from other salmonid devices? How are these containers able to fit so many salmonids?
Here's my theory We can kinda assume salmonid society isn't very ordered but still structured since they have technology that is pretty decent. I feel the salmonid have a bit of a hive mind mentality that they all connect to one large thing together and that's what the mothership is. It could either be that or potentially some kind of salmonid incubator perhaps? The salmonid that we kill from the mothership drop eggs. The baskets are not the ones so what if it's like a bees nest thing where there are salmonid waiting to hatch and have a few stand guard before they die? Idk but I do agree that the mothership makes no sense.
It could be the spawners from the octarians (the spawn pads from the first stage of the octo expansion's finale) since the salmonid do have a peace agreement where the eggs are traded for octarian tech
I think this octarian city would be way more technological than inkopolis, the ranked battles would be different, and squidforce could’ve become “Octoforce”. The weapon shop vendor probably will also be different in this alternate timeline, as Sheldon’s great (?) grandfather was with the inklings in the Great Turf War. Finally, I can see Octavio going two ways: he would be either the government, or maybe he’d end up being the one running the weapon shop, idk. Thank you fellow cephalopod for taking the time to read the unneeded comment.
I know this video is a year old and someone probably already mentioned this, but according to the sunken scrolls, a pretty big hit, and what I believe is the main reason as to why the Octarians lost in the first place, was that the Great Octoweapons were originally wired. During the war, a literal plug was pulled by Inkling forces to destroy them thus giving them the advantage. We also know that the Great Zap Fish is as old as the great Turf War, so it’s safe to the inkling exploited their new discovery to help turn the tides of the war. This reasoning could also explain the more tentacles=more intelligence thing as the Inklings were smart enough to not use a wired connection like the Octarians and instead used another source of power, the great zap fish, for their weaponry.
Probably Cap’n Cuttlefish would be a bad guy, the octoling society would be advanced with advanced technology, and an inkling DLC would be released instead of an octoling one.
Actually octarian tech is completely made by themselves, some octo weapons are even made by Marina herself! They do live in ancient human domes though.
Yes this is so interesting. I wondered what our beloved Splatoon world would have looked like if the Octarians won. Maybe the cities looked more futuristic like and the Inklings probably lived a bit like the Octarians in domes like now, but then without the flying stages and houses stuff
That was thought-provoking. It would be awesome to see what happened during The Great Turf War. But what if the Octarians won? If we assume that The Great Turf War was the era equivalent of WW1 (1914-1918), and the game's current era is similar to our (2021). We don't think Octarian Society would be like 1905s America. One hundred years in one period would be too slow. It would certainly pass through it during the post-war, but we feel that diplomatic relations would either improve or worsen. Eventually, Octarian Society would be very similar to the game. Maybe with a few years ahead of our 2021. However, we would see either a mixture of jellyfish and Octarians or just Octarians roaming around. We agree that the government would be very similar to India. Although, we feel that the Inklings would be very different. We think Inkling Society would perish underground, and a "great dying" would commence. Once the population stabilized, the Inklings would try something to improve their situation. However, the outnumbered Inklings would have no chance of taking on the Octarians head-on. With no high-tech to sell or bargaining chips to offer, they would be on their own. At that point, the Inklings would either start a Guerrilla War or leave entirely. Depending on how diplomatic relations have been with the Inklings, the Inklings may or may not receive help from their old allies. Inklings may also put their pride aside and try to negotiate peace with the Octarians. Since the Inklings had lost a large portion of their population, they may try entering Octarian Society. With all that being said, here are the outcomes we think would play out. - Octarian Society is Inkling free because the Inklings had left to find new lands. - Octarian Society is fighting a Guerilla War against the outnumbered Inklings. - Octarian Society is fighting a Guerilla War against the outnumbered Inklings. However, the Inklings are receiving aid from their old allies. - With their low population, Inklings enter Octarian Society and attempt to rekindle their old co-existence. We apologize for the long read. We hope to hear your thoughts.
It would be cool if they made a Splatoon game with a story mode set in an alternate timeline where the Octarians won the Great Turf War. You still play as an inkling, but you are part of a resistance group against the Octarian regime. I imagine it would be like the show "Man in the High Castle" or a kid friendly version of the game "Wolfenstein".
The tentacle number things is Octarian propoganda. They believe that intelligence and power is determined by the number of tentacles you have (hence octotroopers have one, twintacle octotroopers have two, Octo Samurai has five, and octolings have eight). While this may be true for Octarians it isn't for Inklings because their tentacles act differently. The inklings didn't win because of their ten tentacles. I'm actually not sure how they won.
I've read some of the scrolls from splatoon 1 on the Wiki and It looks like the inklings won the war by luck. I read these two Scroll 13 "Heralded by loud explosions, the 'Great Octoweapons' quickly stormed the Inklings' central stronghold. Victory for the Octarians seemed all but certain, but due to a plug being carelessly pulled from its socket, their hopes were dashed." Scroll 14 "Lady Luck shone down on the Inklings, and historians today agree that the Inklings' victory over the Octarians was mostly due to their superior number of limbs." Sorry if I wrote something wrong.
I think it would have been basically Inkopolis but more high tech. Yes, Inklings are smart, but Marina alone made a couple of stages for splatfest. Imagine if a bunch of Octolings like that worked together to make something bigger.
Welcome to the land between cephalopods, your our newest octo adventerur, let me tell you a story kid: It was four score and 7 years ago. The end of the great turf war was here, but inklings didn't have mpu on their bamboozlers, and lost the great turf war, however they did not go down without a fight. The octarians won but were very weak. The octarians made a pact with the inklings that would keep inklings below ground, but the inklings did not seem ones to uphold promises unlike us octolings. When it seemed like the war could restart, one group of 4 octolings journeyed to the inklings gathering zapfish along the way. They sneaked, fought, and battled their way through inkling ranks to their leader...what was his name again?...anyways, they agreed the octarians would supply the inklings with energy in the form of zapfish if they agreed to uphold their end of the pact permanently and stay seperated from octarian land. The Inklings agreed and set-off to find new land. They found the splatlands, a once inhospitable area, and formed the border between cepholapods. To this day, we honor these brave octolings by having a group of young 4 octolings go and deliver a zapfish to the inklings...and I've heard that "turf war" game has started to become popular among you octopi, even if "Mr. Octavio" is opposed to it. Well, recently i've been hearing rumors that the inklings are plotting some way to "win the war they never finished", and all the other octopi ive been trying to get to help me have been walking past me. Kid, I want you to become a real adventurer, not one of those phonie kids who are just ceremonially bringing gifts to the inklings, no I want you to find what they are planning and, if need be, "steal their energy supply" what do ya say kid? You: ... Great, now then, lets get you suited up-
I also thought about what would happen in the scenario if the inklings lost it'd also be cool to see a whole story mode on this! (also I subscribed before I could be called an "unsubscribed viewer"
I am picturing now Splatoon 1 but with more chaotic and powerful weapons, where it's only Octolings in Inkopolis. Their attire instead of being based on Japanese and American fashion trends from the 90s and 00s, would be centered around Indian influences and 50s-60s America. Perhaps they're fighting salmonids more head on. Who knows what they've been cooking (literally) after the great turf war in this timeline?
My understanding is that octotroopers etc are the limbs cut of of octolings and octolings are just inklings but with an octopus motif so the term octolings may be a derogatory term to describe an inkling that is an octopus so if the octolings one they would be called inklings while the canon inklings would be called something along the lines of squidling. Octo canyon/octo valley would probably change to squid canyon/squid valley, octo shot become squid shot, octo brush becomes squid brush etc.
The tentacle bit may be litterally true considering the bosses innthe octarion army are pilotted by tentacles. The squids could, if they had their own equivalents and more of them, send out more troops.
funny little bit of input, I feel like an Inkling variant of Octo Troopers would probably be called Tenta Troopers or something, seeing as the arms of an octopus are different from tentacles, which squids do have
If this was, hero mode might be you as an octoling signing up to fight the second (much smaller) turf war. Like you would see a few posters and it would lead you to some place to sign up for! Just an idea though :p
My theory is the great inkling weapons are part of something called project tentacle, so when it says they have more tentacles it means they have more weapons of mass destruction
it would have been interesting if in the ruins of humanity the inklings and octarians found the humans weapons of destruction such as nukes missiles tanks attack helicopters and more and used them on each other during the great turf war but also reverse engineering them with their own tech into it like imagine fi the inklings were pulling up with M1 Abrams or leopard 2s and the octarians with type 99s or t90s
Funny you mention the splatoon 1 explanation, but don't mention the scroll in Splatoon 2 that states the Octarians lost because someone accidentally pulled the plug powering theor great octo weapons.
I wonder if the Calamari Inkantation would have ever been created if the Octarians won. And if it was, would it be used as much more of a direct weapon against them?
If MS 88-2 was completed 1 month sooner, the octarians would have won. Instead it was completed 4 days before time was up. This was enough for the octarians to reclaim some land. (Octo Canyon, Octo Valley, and others) with ease. The inklings that witnessed it in action said it was the biggest movable object they had ever seen. And that it was turbulent with specials. It was unstoppable. They got splatted again and again and again. Finally they decided that the only option was retreat. And thats why the Octos got their valley.
Ok hear me out. Diffrent octo weapons. No splat charger it's an octo charger octo roller etc more powerful but slower. If they win it would have diffrent tech for weapons
we would probably get a more cyberprep-like splatoon 3. i bet the music would be a bit more electronic too. also i could imagine the story mode idols being parts of the government or smth instead of thieves.
This one is going to be an opposite versions all in series I’d doubt… Even tho, If I where an Octoling? I’d become a mere traitor after taking down Octavio out of the buckets. when I just wanted dealing off from those happenings, meh, it’s up to them Rather like it or not…Besides, I’m asian, hell I care about that even they won, that’s simply as put to it. 🤔
This all seems very plausible, yet one issue still remains. It would all end very soon because of tar tar. Since cuttlefish and 8 would never fall into the deep sea metro, no one would be able to stop tar tar from blasting it all away.
I just have this question what if there was another great turf war and what if the arctarians won that great turf war if anyone has any ideas in the replies it will be gratefully appreciated!
