Montana just didnt fit into Steeler o-coordinator Ron Erhardt's offense and remember, the Steelers were coming off a 12-4 season with O'Donnell in 1992. So it just didnt wouldnt have made any sense to go after Montana unless they were gonna overhaul their entire offense around him. And if im actually remembering correctly, Tampa Bay tried to go after O'Donnell in the 1993 preseason, the first year of free agency, and the Steelers re-signed him for 3 more years.

I think Montana would've won a Super Bowl with Pittsburgh.

Let's not get down on Neil O'Donnell too much. He was able to get the Steelers finally to the Super Bowl after so many other Steelers QB's couldn't. As I recall, Rod Woodson actually pleaded to him to stay with the team but with "Slash" getting so much undue buzz he probably felt the writing was on the wall against him. Steelers could have won that SB but to be honest, Dallas was the slightly better team overall and was deserving of the Lombardi trophy, unlike the Packers in SB45 who were far inferior to the Steelers, but the fix was in against Pittsburgh that year.

You’re right he was a solid QB but I think it’s fair to say Montana would’ve been a better option and the difference in the SB against Dallas

He threw that Superbowl away. I'd like to have Joe that day.

We don't know if the cowboys were better because Neil threw the game away.

My Steelers blew it with Marino too. So bad that we drafted Kenny Pickett to make sure we didn't blow it. Like they did with Marino

My Steelers should have made that move.
