I think the most impressive parts of these Gym videos, for me, are how the move sets help in telling a story. I don't usually think of Pokemon balancing or anything like that, but it always seems like a lot of thought went into deciding the moves.

Maybe shift out Sharpedo for Dragalge; it's known to destroy ships that enter it's territory, and the Poison type would help to get rid of pesky Grass types like Ludicolo or Cradilie. I know it's not a Water type anymore, but maybe you could have it use Soak on itself or do a double battle format. Maybe swap out Basculegion for Jellicent for similar reasons.

I’ve had a whole bunch of ideas for a potential water gym. One that leaned into the rain theme in a rain-drenched, foggy forest. One that leaned into the water HMs in a Submerged Castle-esc gym. But in the end I leaned on something that was a little bit more me. I love the water, the sea, the rain, and all the life in it. But one other thing I love is to put on a show (As seen from my incredibly cheesy writing) So here comes you, an aspiring trainer. You find my gym in a bustling greek-esc city on the coast, with an enormous marble structure cantilevered over the sea. The building would look like a mixture of the colosseum and the Hanging Gardens of Babylon. You approach this beautiful marble structure, covered in trees and greenery, with aquaducts and waterfalls winding in and around the building. Around the gym would be gym trainers dressed in costumes and wearing fancy masks, all coloured blue and white. The trainers using pokemon like Omastar, Prinplup, Dugong, Gorebyss, Lumineon, Alomamola, Starmie, Azumarill, and other cute or elegant water types. The primary gym puzzle would have to rotating sections of aquaducts to redirect the flow of water around the gym, which would for one just act like an interactive maze sorta like Nessa’s gym where you can redirect channels of rushing water that formerly blocked your path. But you could also direct these channels into water wheels and other mechanisms to open doors and pull elevators. Once you complete the puzzle, you’d enter the final “room” of the gym. An enormous greek-styled amphitheatre overlooking the coast and beautiful sea, as you descend the stairs of the amphitheatre you notice a woman pacing back and forth on the stage, reciting lines to herself. She is decked out in beautiful layered clothing, all split down the middle in colour with one side deep blue, and the other white. A matching blue half-mask covering the right side of her face. As you draw near, she notices you and apologizes for being so unprofessional. She then introduces herself as [Me!] the water type gym leader, as geisers of water erupt from holes dug out of the floor like KISS fire plumes. She then recites some poke-shakespeare to you in a grandiose voice, and challenges you to a battle. My hypothetical final team would be -Lumineon -Lapras -Omastar -Jellicent -Milotic -Primarina And finally my ace, a Tera Water Arboliva Most of my team is there to reflect the elegant side of the water-typing, the incredible beauty of the ocean. The greek theme also carries through with Primarina, whom is literally a siren and a seal. Omastar was a weirder pick but it fits really well I think. The antiquity of the building and of the art of drama both fit well with Omastar’s status as a fossil pokemon. The rock (and the colour of its shell) also hint at the marble of the building itself (and act as some nice coverage for any water types you might have brought). Water Arboliva is then the apex of all of these themes, it is elegant and holds its feathery arms in the air like a dancer, with its eyes shut like a singer in the midst of an intense ballad. It is also an olive tree, which is so very greek. After you beat me I give you some speech about appreciating the beauty of this endless world around us, and letting it be our muse to create wonderful things. Then you recieve the TM for Sparkling Aria (which was in Gen 8 not exlusive to Primarina, it could be bred into Lapras), or if thats not possible then probably Aqua Ring or Rain Dance. Lastly you’d recieve the Coast Badge, which would look like a wave crashing against a rocky shore, and curling up and around in sort of the shape of a wing Once you’re done with my gym you could probably watch plays in the amphitheatre or just bump into me around town or by the water, usually swimming or sitting on the rocks admiring the sea with my pokemon. This gym was a little less fleshed out than the last one, but I like it, and it feels a lot more me.

The Blastoise is a fantastic idea, I wish Pokemon did fun stuff like that in their games. Especially forcing people to use a different team than the one the may have been building. Could add some much needed difficulty. These videos are sooo fun! I literally cannot wait for the ghost gym! You have fantastic ideas, and I'd love to see what you'd come up with for the type. I live in a notoriously rainy city, so natch my water gym would be rain themed. Outside with a permanent rain effect, it would have you running around dodging puddles and avoiding getting splashed by passing buses Gym trainers would mostly have pokemon whose abilities benefit from rain such as seismitoad, including a few non-water types like toxicroak and accelgor My team would be similarly designed to take advantage of the rain with two ludicolos (one physical wall w/ rain dish and one special sweeper w/ swift swim), wash rotom (w/ 100% accuracy stab thunder), pelipper (w/ 100% accuracy stab hurricane and drizzle in case rain is replaced), and my ace... Castform!! Moveset includes weather ball, hurricane, thunder, and rain dance, maybe with a z-move or dynamax to make it a bit more viable, but I've always loved little rainy castform

I had thought of a very similar idea - with Monsters of the Deep being the general theme. However, there are some differences. This gym would take place in the Alola region at the Seafolk Village. A shipwreck was discovered here years ago, and archaeologists and anthropologists have settled in a camp just outside the town for research purposes. To access the gym, you will surf out to a platform, and begin to descend. As you submerge, you'll battle trainers with Omastar, Relicanth, Cradily, Sharpedo, and Jellicent. Before reaching each trainer, you would see a breathing apparatus in screen. You could push the hoses that led to the surface, which would drag the trainers potentially out of view for battle. This will be the final gym in this journey. When you finally reach the bottom, you'll enter the wreckage, which will have an air bubble and a large water battlefield, and lights strung up around the perimeter. Instead of a khaki wearing archaeologist, instead you'll encounter an imposing figure with an old-fashioned diving suit (think Captain Cutler's ghost from the old Scooby Doo episode). They will take off the helmet and explain that they once commanded a powerful sailing vessel, but it was sunk by an unknown sea monster in the open ocean. The beast escaped, and his Pokemon were able to get him back to shore. It is now his mission to investigate other wreckages, and bring information to the surface to prevent further catastrophes. This is a 5-on-5 battle with a team comprised of Kingdra, Dragalge, Lanturn, Gyarados, and a Terra-Water Dhelmise. After defeating the leader, you will receive the Deluge Badge, and the TM for Hydro Pump. After defeating the Elite Four, they will add a Dragapult to their team in a full battle. It will operate more like a stealth submarine in battle, rather than it's more jet-plane appearance.

I think I would have the Bayou Badge; My team would be filled with Pokémon like A Swampart(Mega), a Quagsire, a Clodsire with the Water Terra Type, a Dreadnaw, a Whiscash, and a Feraligatr. In terms of actual Gym and Region? I've taken over for Crasher Wake as the fourth Gym leader of Sinnoh. I was a lover of Ground Type Pokémon, and dedicated my life as a Ruin Maniac to finding and preserving the ancient places of the world. My travels eventually took me to Pastora's Great Marsh, where I encountered Wake as the Guardian of the area; Through him I came to learn of the Marsh's long history, and importance to the regions ecosystem, that is when I decided that this place needed preserving too. I moved the Gym into the Marsh as to have a more constant presence (as well as to give me the chance to really *DIVE* into my work). I'm not really sure on a Gimmick right now...anyone got any suggestions? lol

When it comes to a water type gym, I think it might be pretty cool to break from the standards. Usually, water gyms involve pools or traversing water or other things of the sort- basically making the whole theme of the gym water itself. I think it would be way more interesting to theme it around something else related to water, like ships and islands. Maybe the player needs to take down ‘enemy pirate ships’ with cannons as they navigate some sort of maze, and they eventually find the gym leader themselves on a ‘deserted’ island. They could use Pokémon that have fitting lore ties to sailing without being a cut and paste of basically every other water gym leader in existence. They definitely need a Blastoise though acting as a battleship.

Here is my gym concept for the water type. Location: It would be in an unidentified place in galar, as a new up and coming gym leader on the coast of a small island that you need surf to get to. the puzzle: The puzzle will not be there at first, until one of the gym trainers knocks you out and you wake up in a prison hulk, with different floors, having to battle your way through the gym trainers, with the need of strength to move heavy equipment the trainers: the trainers would be like the aqua grunts in terms of get up, with pokemon like carvana, sealeo, veluza, pelippers, whiscash, gastrodon, and an occasional seismitoad. Before the battle: "Eh? Oh, you. you managed to get through my lackeys, huh? well, they were just krill's, compared to me, I could take them all on at once, but that's a tale for another time, lets see if you can compare to the ruler of the sea's." The team: this is one of the harder battles as a double battle, as there is a permanent rain storm, no weather moves can happen, with the text: "the winds are far too strong to remove the rain" with a team of Azumarill w/ Huge Power (aqua jet, play rough, ice punch, belly drum), Ludicolo (Scald, Giga Drain, H. Power Electric, synthesis), Toxapex (Scald, Baneful Bunker, haze, toxic spikes), Seismitoad (Sludge Bomb, Scald, Earth Power, Power Whip) the ace's: "You think your some big shot, eh?! Think again. Now you will feel the agony of those from the sea!" I then send out Dondozo and Tatsugiri, terastalizing into water to further power it up. Dondozo had the water veil ability, with the moves Order Up, Wave Crash, Earthquake, and Rock Slide. Tatsugiri has the commander ability w/ Icy wind, surf, draco meteor, and toxic. After the battle: "Well blimey, you over came the tribulation, your one in a few to do so, you deserve a special reward." "You recieve the wave badge" "You recieved TM55: Scald"

My Water-type gym would be a firefighter training course, where the challenger has to put out fires to progress further. They will be fighting gym trainers along the way. Before taking on the gym leader, you would come across two separate zip lines: one to take you to the beginning for those who want to go to the Pokémon Center to heal and to train some more if they want, and the other which takes the challenger to the battle arena. Challengers who defeat my gym will be rewarded with the Duty Badge and, depending on which gym you're facing(whether this is the 1st, 2nd, or 8th), the TM for Water Pulse, Rain Dance, Scald, Aqua Tail, Liquidation, Hydro Pump, Waterfall, or Surf. Depending on which gym you'll be facing, these are the Pokémon you might be facing against the gym trainers(what Pokémon they will have will be randomly selected when you first enter the gym, so every player would have a different challenge): Squirtle(one trainer would have a full team of Squirtle each holding the Black Glasses item as a reference to the Squirtle Squad), Tentacool, Tentacruel, Psyduck, Golduck, Poliwag, Poliwhirl, Poliwrath, Politoed, Basculin(one trainer would have one of each color variant), Basculegion(one trainer would have one of each gender), Shellder, Cloyster, Seel, Dewgong, Johtonian Corsola, Remoraid, Octillery, Krabby, Kingler, Horsea, Seadra, Goldeen, Seaking, Kantonian Slowpoke, Kantonian Slowbro, Johtonian Slowking, Staryu, Starmie, Magikarp(one trainer would have a full team of Magikarp), Gyarados(one trainer would reference the Lake of Rage), Lapras, Vaporeon, Omanyte, Omastar, Kabuto, Kabutops, Totodile, Croconaw, Chinchou, Lanturn, Marill, Azumarill, Johtonian Wooper, Quagsire, Mantyke, Mantine, Johtonian Qwilfish, Mudkip, Marshtomp, Lotad, Lombre, Ludicolo, Wailmer, Wailord, Wingull, Pelipper, Surskit, Carvanha, Sharpedo, Barboach, Whiscash, Luvdisc, Relicanth, Spheal, Sealeo, Corphish, Crawdaunt, Feebas, Milotic, Clamperl, Gorebyss, Huntail, Piplup, Prinplup, Bibarel, Buizel, Shellos(one trainer would have one of each version), Gastrodon(one trainer would have one of each version), Finneon, Lumineon, Oshawott, Dewott, Samurott(one trainer would have one of each regional variant), Panpour, Simipour, Tympole, Palpitoad, Seismitoad, Tirtouga, Carracosta, Ducklett, Swanna, Alomomola, Frillish(one trainer would have one of each gender), Jellicent(one trainer would have one of each gender), Froakie, Frogadier, Binacle, Barbaracle, Skrelp, Clauncher, Clawitzer, Popplio, Brionne, Wishiwashi, Mareanie, Toxapex, Dewpider, Araquanid, Wimpod, Golisopod, Pyukumuku, Bruxish, Sobble, Drizzile, Chewtle, Drednaw, Arrokuda, Barraskewda, Cramorant, Dracovish, Arctovish, Quaxly, Quaxwell, Wiglett, Wugtrio, Finizen, Palafin, Paldean Tauros(Aqua Breed), Veluza, and Dondozo & Tatsugiri(one trainer would be a Double Battle that involves facing 3 Dondozo and 3 Tatsugiri, and they'll have one of each version of Tatsugiri). If I were a Water-type gym leader early on, my team would consist of Finizen, Chinchou, and Johtonian Wooper as my ace. If I were a Water-type gym leader in the middle of the journey, my team would consist of Azumarill, Lombre, Frillish, and Quagsire as my ace. If I were a Water-type gym leader with a full team of six(as the 8th gym leader) that could not use fully-evolved starter Pokémon, my team would consist of Palafin(my lead that uses Flip Turn on the first turn), East Sea Gastrodon, Ludicolo, Jellicent, Kingdra, and Walrein as my ace. If I were a Water-type gym leader with a full team of a six(as the 8th gym leader) that could use fully-evolved starter Pokémon, my team would consist of Swampert(Damp), Primarina, Empoleon(Defiant), Araquanid, Walrein, and Blastoise as my ace(either regular with the Rain Dish ability, Mega Blastoise, using the Waterium-Z, regular Dynamax, Gigantamax, or Terastalizing into a Water type). After defeating one gym after mine, before taking on the Elite Four & Champion, and during the post game, 1 or more NPC's will stand outside of the gym acting as Move Tutors teaching a variety of Water-type moves that aren't already TMs in this hypothetical game.

My water gym would be similar but it’ll take place on the sea floor in a hydrothermal vent field with brine lakes as well, this area would be a wild area as well. I’d probably have Pokémon Pokémon based on tubeworms, deep sea oysters, vents, as well as Pokémon like crabominable, lanturn, and Wishiwashi. The actual gym will be in a area similar to the volcano alien base in subnautica. My character is studying these alien bases in the deep sea to find out the origin of life on earth.

Well just like my fire gym idea im going to history for inspiration again! I think the main theme of my water type gym would be ancient Greek sailors. Think of the Odyssey, ancient Greek naval battles, etc. and id be around the 4th-6th gym you'd face. Puzzle: The gym would consist of 2 islands (one at the entrance and the other where i am) with a series of warships connecting them with a different puzzle on each so going over & under oars on one ship, navigating a maze of barrels on another, etc. Badge: The Poseidon Badge Team: Carracosta, Palaphin, and Octillery are all based on creatures that are very common in Greek areas of the Mediterranean and would be the body of my team. My ace would be a Falinks which fits the ancient Greek vibe for obvious reasons and it would be Terra water to fit with the gym's type Oh and it'd imagine i'd be located in Paldea i feel it's the region that fits the theme best

My water gym would probably be on the idea of duality or opposites since water, is essential to basically all living things but it can also be very dangerous. It'd probably be like a 6th gym and I'd probably use Gorebyss (since it's elegant but cruel), Wugtrio (since it looks unassuming but is actually vicious), Floatzel (since it rescues drowning people but also attacks you in PLA and SV), Wishiwashi (small and weak but becomes very strong), and water tera Pangoro (since it's violent but stands up to bullies). Maybe the badge will have a yin and yang motif, not too sure on that.

Personally, if I had a water type gym, I would go for a Pirate ship theme, with my Pokemon chosen to perform some sort of role on the ship I would use Ludicolo(got to keep entertained at sea somehow), Slowbro(quartermaster, if not a particularly effective one), Barbaracle(the name already sort of fits the pirate theme), Clawitzer(cannon), Lapras(landing raft), with Blastoise as my ace, who better than a starter to be my first mate the gym challenge would take the form of a pirate ship as you do, with the gym test taking the form of "liberating" a set of 3 keys held by specific gym trainers who use stuff like the Sharpedo, Crawdaunt and Pelipper lines, along with Chatot, Squakabilly, Dhelmise, and Wishcash to deal with the grass and electric types you brought(what you expect the captain to do everything), and once you beat me you'll get the plunder badge and the TM for Water Pulse I also have an idea for a Fire type gym with a civilization theme I would use Talonflame, Houndoom, Rapidash(all 3 are based on animals that have been domesticated), Coalossal(coal advanced society a fair bit), Chandelure(chandeliers are often associated with high society), with Armarouge as my ace(based on a knight) the gym challenge would take the form of lighting a number of torches throughout the gym with trainers with pokemon like Torkoal, Camerupt, and heat Rotom blocking your way, and by beating me you'd earn the Promethean badge, along with the TM for Sunny Day

It's been a little bit since the Hoenn region shuffled around its gyms and got new leaders. You approach the Mossdeep gym, which is now closer to the rocket launch pad. As you get inside, the room is domed, with lasers projecting the night skies above you. It is an observatory. It is dark, and moving lasers draw out paths along the way. If you misstep, you fall, finding in some water, and a diver dressed like an astronaut will come up and challenge you to a battle. The two most common pokemon used are Staryu and Chinchou. However, Tentacool and Finneon will make their appearances too. Eventually, you find your way to the end, where you see me. "Did you know that Astronaut means "star sailor" and have you ever noticed that we call their vehicles space ships? Maybe they aren't so different. Let's embark and see what you are made of." My team starts with pokemon that glow, much like the stars. Lumineon is my first and easiest to beat, followed by Lanturn, Tentacruel, and Starmie. Araquanid comes out next. After you beat him, I will say "Did you know spiders are even more effective in zero-gravity? Imagine what our fight would be like if we were up there." The lights all shut off "Wake up, my friend!" I will end this battle with a Malamar, terastalized into a water type. Once he is beaten, lights will turn on, revealing the paths resemble grasping tentacles. "It is said many alien creatures remain hidden in the voids of the sea. Be careful, my new friend, and take these." I will then hand you the Deep Badge, a circle of black and blue inlayed with a spiral, as well as a TM for water pulse.

YESSS I'VE BEEN WAITING FOR THIS ONE!!! Okay, so, I'm a gym in a coastal town. Maybe somewhere in Alola, Hoenn, or Paldea. I want somewhere with BIG ocean. My building is built on the coastline of the region beside the town, and it's a MASSIVE glass building, like an office. It'll be a bit later of a gym, because you're *required* to be able to use Surf. See, this is a water level gym, like in Pastoria City. You find yourself at ground floor on a grated platform, and you're made to battle the trainer before you. They're a Diver, which is weird... because after you beat them, the water level rises!! Your Pokemon automatically Surfs, so you rise with the water, and thus you must Surf to various platforms, battle Divers, and watch as the water rises and lowers... Finally, you're raised up hiiiigh to the top of the building, where a dude in swim trunks waits for you! They introduce themselves and you enter battle! Their team has a Gyarados (duh), an Azumarill, a Quagsire, and a Water Tera Malamar!! After you beat them, expecting a badge, they inform you that *they aren't the gym leader.* The water level begins to sink, down... down... down..., past divers and platforms, further and further, and you reach the ground floor. However, the grated floor sloooowly opens up, and you sink deeper down into the water... Further, further down, deep, DEEP in a glass tube, and you find yourself watching bioluminescent Pokemon bobbing about and huge dark shadows lurking past... Until you reach a sandy, shell-speckled bottom that the water slips down under. You're in a massive underwater glass dome, with a huge sand-strewn battlefield. On the far side, a woman adorned in gold, beads, tattered ship sails and even an anchor roped to her back stands up from a throne of shining, glossy seashells. As she introduces herself, a huge shadow with glowing eyes rears up behind her, spreading its mouth wide to reveal a shiny set of pearly whites. A spotlight shines on it and you find it to be a brand new evolution to Sharpedo: JAWGERNAUT! Based on the Megalodon, Dunkelosteus, and ghost ships, this massive shark adorned in wrecked ship parts and teeth on teeth on teeth, it's a gruesome Dark-Ghost beast. Slipping forward, through the glass barrier like a phantasmic horror of the abyss, Jawgernaut reveals itself as... THE TOTEM POKEMON!!! That's right, this is a combo gym/totem location (insane as that is), in which the creature battles you while summoning allies like Jellicent (who phases through the glass like Jawgernaut) and Malamar (who teleports inside the dome). After you nearly knock it down to red HP, its ally Pokemon heals it up to yellow with Wish or similar. But with Jawgernaut's ability "Revival", it gains double HP from the move and is basically regenerated to full HP again!!! It then Water Terastalizes, and from there you can only hope on beating it. But if you do beat this mon, you'll find yourself in possession of the Deep Dark badge and the Phantom Force TM (a move that Jawgernaut uses quite a bit). So uh... yeah 😅 Sorry I went so hard on this. (Also I typed this until the next video started so oof lemme see if I can resend this)

This video gave me so many ideas! I'd water be a water/flying gym in a generation that introduces a defensive type swapping gimmick. Every gym has a quad weakness, and the gym trainers all give clues about their Leader's preferred Swap Type and Ace. My team is mostly water types, with some water/flying and and water/ground Ace. The gimmick swaps a pokemon's type for 1 turn. You are prompted to swap when an opponent selects a super effective move. You can swap 2 times in a battle. My gym theme would be a mid-game Hotel with a complimentary Gym. All the trainers have water or flying "cleaning" pokemon. The hints for the Ace are "A specific water/ground pokemon that swaps to flying type". The Leader is the Head Butler and there's room for a penguin on the team somewhere.

My Ultimate Water Gym: Challenge: This gym challenge is the same as my original gym challenge, except the challenge itself has been changed. Your goal is to traverse through a maze that's loaded with ladders and water slides. Unlike the previous challenge, there are three floors to this challenge as opposed to two, and the ladders and slides have taken to much of the area to the point that it'll be difficult to determine which ladder is connected to which slide. Plus, most of the ladders are blocked by gym trainers, each with one water type Pokemon. Defeat each of them one by one to make your way to the goal, and the main room where the battle will take place. My Team: #1: Palafain (Level 65) Flip Turn, Focus Punch, Ice Punch, Endure #2: Seismitoad (Level 65) Power Whip, Sludge Wave, Muddy Water, Drain Punch #3: Empoleon (Level 65) Earthquake, Hydro Pump, Flash Cannon, Blizzard #4: Wishiwashi (Level 65) U-Turn, Earthquake, Aqua Ring, Hydro Pump #5: Gyarados (Level 65) Earthquake, Dragon Dance, Hydro Pump, Iron Head #6: Quagsire (Level 66, Water Tera Type) Hydro Pump, Earthquake, Blizzard, Sludge Bomb Why I Chose My Ace: By giving Quagsire a water tera type, and moveset like this, it can be able to fool its past and current weaknesses, meaning that it will be able to take out both Grass and Electric type Pokemon in like a boss. My water gym would be located in the Marine Tube, or above it. It would be based on an Aquarium. You'd have to look at 6 different signs that tell you more about different water type pokemon. After reading, a trainer will appear and you will have to battle them. They will tell you more about more water pokemon or lore about the world related around water. Once you beat them, you get a stamp card you got at the start of the gym which will depict a picture of every pokemon used by me at the end. Once you get all six stamps, you can approach the end of the Marine Tube, get on an elevator, that will bring you up another tube, showing off all the water pokemon and the aquarium and then you will appear in the middle of a water field where it is raining and you meet the me. My pokemon would be Poliwrath, but not my ace this time. A Shining Jellicent. Palafin. Walrein. Greninja. And finally, Empoleon who is my ace and has a new mega evolution.

No others trainers but a fun challenge to entertain me, King of Sootopolis. With the pokemon of your choosing, surf around the crater as fast as you can. This would play like a Temple Run, with 5 lanes you can change to. Of course, there would be obstacles such as Cramorants dive bombing, Sharpedos coming fast in the opposite direction, Qwilfishes awaiting and Tentacruels trying to grab you. If you make it, you gain the opportunity to battle me. Quagsire (Yawn - Rain Dance - Mud Slap - Muddy Water) Slowking (Nasty Plot - Future Sight - Slack Off - Water Pulse) Walrein (Aqua Ring - Rain Dance - Brine - Ice Beam) Kingdra (Whrilpool - Hurricane - Smokescreen - Dragon Pulse) Empoleon (Aqua Jet - Liquidation - Steel Wing - Drill Peck) Nidoqueen (Surf - Earth Power - Sludge Bomb - Flamethrower) Sheer Force You get to live the city with the Coral Crown badge. Then when the trainer finally makes it to the end of the race corse. They find me in a boat-house/workshop. "You did good beating my crew. But Im not a pushover like they are. See if you can match my speed." Then I'd set of the sprinklers giving my team Rain for their swift swim ability. Each member has swift swim. I have had this concept for a while for a Water Type Gym. My thought would be this would be a 4th Gym, so I am gonna give myself four Pokémon. My Gym would be located in Mauville City, taking over for Watson. My concept for an interesting Water Type Gym would be that it’s actually the Mauville Fire Department, with me serving as the Department Chief in addition to the Gym Leader. My Gym Trainers would be several of my firefighters that work there. I think it makes sense: our Pokémon get training in not only common battle tactics, but other unorthodox strategies through firefighting. My Gym Challenge would relate to firefighting techniques, having to use certain kinds of Pokémon to put out fires in the proper amount of time to advance, or else you would be stuck with facing a firefighter Gym Trainer. After you get through all the rooms, you would face me on a firefighting boat that has a battle stage on it and we would begin our battle. I would start off with a Paldean Tauros Aqua Breed, a strong physical Water Type who would frequently go into buildings to rescue people trapped inside. If you can get past it, my next Pokémon would be Wartortle, the leader of one of our Squirtle Squads. If you can beat Wartortle, my next Pokémon would be Seadra, a Pokémon I use for on-the-water rescue. Finally, if you can get past all of those, you would then face my ace: Armarouge. Surprising, yes? Well, its color scheme of red and yellow seems fitting for a firefighter and its cannon arms could be a water cannon. It would be a Tera Water Type with Tera Blast to give it Water STAB. If you beat me, you would win the Hydro Badge and get the TM for Surf. For my rematch, my Wartortle and Seadra would have evolved into Blastoise and Kingdra, respectively, and I would add the following two Pokémon to my team: Pelipper (for air cover/aerial operations) and Palpitoad (with it being part Ground Type, it gives another option for dealing with fires)

My gym would be an outdoor area, similar to a Trial from the Alola region. It would have a few islands connected by plank bridges, and spots to Dive and Surf around. There would be plenty of Swimmers and Divers and Tubers around, and there wouldn't be so much a puzzle as finding a good path through the gym's area: you could Surf and Dive in some spots to take underwater passages and skip out on facing some of the trainers, but risk facing wild Pokemon. There would also be a couple times you had to do so to hit switches that form a stone bridge leading up to the final island. It would be stretching the Water typing a lot, but the theme of my team would be based on the concept of carcinisation- convergent evolution and animals that evolve into crabs. I would be dressed a bit like Professor Kukui with a lab coat and board shorts, and wearing swimming goggles instead of scientist goggles. I would make an unbearable amount of crab puns and use crabs as a philosophical metaphor for enduring hardships, as well as hyping up crabs as "the ultimate lifeform". I would have a Kingler, Crawdaunt, Clawitzer, and non-Water crabs in Klawf and Crabominable, both of whom would still know a Water type move or two. My Water Terastal Pokemon would be a Zangoose who just for this battle has somehow learned the move Crabhammer. After battle I would be a little crabby, but nonetheless satisfied that you proved a worthy challenger. You would receive the Crab Badge as well as the TM for Liquidation, which would symbolize the crushing power of crab claws. I would give you one last warning about a rare Pokemon that lurks in the dip nearby before letting you leave.

okay the rhydon was a fun twist the water gym I designed recently is themed around..... the wild west? your challenge will be using the game's camera view to hit targets with a water pistol, triggering (hah) gates and water wheels to move water around and finally pour out into a little oasis in the middle of the desert gym. because in the harsh dry desert, water is life. my gym is a really early one, probably the first or second, so my team is only 3 pokemon: the pistol fish remoraid, an aqua breed paldean tauros, and my tera pokemon, the lone ranger cubone. cubone can learn water gun in gen 1 by tm, and as this gym's signature move of course this cubone knows it. it also has the lightning rod ability to counter any electric types you've brought. but once you beat us you'll have earned the tm for water gun, it's pretty basic but it gets the job done, and. the sheriff badge ba dum tsss

Gigantamax in Kanto? Have you considered making a theory video on how the region specific gimmicks (dynamax and terastal) could be possible in a future region? My hope is that Gen 10, being the landmark that it is, gives us all the previous gimmicks rather than giving a new one. Maybe Sonia or Magnolia has studied the Champion's Eternatus and figured out how to refine and transport its Galar particles. Maybe the discovery of the disc pokemon leads to future research on perfecting the tera orb. And by anime rules, you can only use one gimmick in a battle, for balancing. They should also make dynamax and tera require held items for balancing (like mega stones and Z crystals)

My idea for a water type gym would be an underwater reef. You go into a little submarine and traverse through the water, along the way you find wild Pokémon, Lego city Deep sea adventure style. But during the journey you keep seeing glimpses of… a mermaid tail? Must be your imagination. Once you finally go back to the top, in a different gym room, you get out of the submarine, ready to battle but… there’s nobody there, just a large rock. At first. There’s a large splash of water, and you see me, on the rock, in all my glory, the Powerful Princess Mermaid, complete with a mermaid tail and reveal that the mermaid tail you’ve been seeing was me watching you throughout the gym challenge, and I’ve decided that your ready to face me. I take off the mermaid tail costume, and challenge you. All of my Pokémon are mermaid themed: Gorebyss, Vaporeon, Milotic, and Primarina. Of course, looks can be deceiving, my Pokémon are not just pretty, they are also powerful, and they also have some ice type moves up their sleeves for your grass types. And my primarina can use its Z-move: Oceanic Operetta. (I’m thinking my mons are a mid-level gym, around 5th or 6th). If you do beat me, you get the Mermaid badge and the TM Water Pledge.

While typing this I got a 2 minute Disney+ ad, so that was anoying. WATER WHEELS! I love fantasy architecture, and I recently drew out a building with a water wheel that I've fallen in love with. So similar to what you said I am gonna use botw as reference. I like the actual puzzle or the vah ruta, so I'm gonna be inspired by it. I also want to have a gym that takes place across an entire town, my plan is quite interesting. The town will have a large river cutting right through it. And unlike a regular town cutting through it, it's gonna also have a lot of tidal powered contraptions. Such as draw bridges and rotating path ways. So your goal is to traverse the town without using your ride Pokémon. If you use it then you are disqualified. You have to enter buildings and move around them in order to open up the bridges. And all sorts. If this had to be in a pre existing location I would put it in canalave city in sinnoh. There won't be too many trainers. There will be the classic "in order to do thing you must battle me" kinda trainer, but other than that you will mostly get targeted by wild bibarel. You make your way up to the town plaza that in my head is on an elevated surface with platforms that only stick out when certain parts of the town are activated and that's how you climb to the top. And there you find the gym leader, who starts talking about how this town is fairly new to the pokemon region that as a joke I'm just calling 'lore' for now. He says his grandfather designed the mechanisms for how the town worked, while his father put it all together like a jigsaw. Now he must work hard to keep it a thriving city, and one of the ways he wanted to do that is by building a gym, so that a constant flow of trainers will come through. He sends out his first Pokémon barraskewda, and follows up with his pelliper. He uses gastrodon and bibarel. All of these Pokémon do something to help with the town, all of them should be self explanatory except for gastrodon, who in my head is used to grease some of the mechanisms. To be honest I want to use a fakemon in that slot but oh well. He sends out his final Pokémon, jelicent. I didn't go into too much detail on his team because a lot of it I wanted to be fakemon, but I think it's fine. And I mainly wanted to focus on the puzzle.

So to not completely get off topic of gym leaders. Who approves gym leaders? The Champion? The Champion & Elite four? What are the requirements to be a gym leader? Do you need to have eight badges? It would make sense, Blue is a gym leader. If thats true does that mean even Giovanni has eight gym badges? Was Giovanni chosen to be a gym leader by the previous champion before Blue? Can you only be a gym leader in the region you have eight badges in or is it open to badges from any region? Could you defeat the first gym leader from the gens 1-6 & 8-9 and then become a gym leader in any region? Were Karen and Will just gym leaders in Johto at the time of the original games like Koga was in Kanto?
