Chris, I have to say, your videos are some of the best car videos that I can find. Not to sound rude or anything, but jeeps don't have this problem. Just open the straps, lift the hood up a little bit, push the hood release lever, and just open it. The one downside to the jeep hood is that there's no spring retention system. Got to use the old fashion hood rod.

Your videos are so helpful, especially for those who wants to do these things by themselves, but also for the new mechanical like me that need to learn more of this work. I'm from Italy and unfortunately in my high school the teachers are literally fuckers, I hate them because their lessons are empty and boring. So now in my holidays I'm trying to learn more by myself, and a couple of days ago I discovered your channel. I was like "woow! Finally a serious person whence I can learn more!" @February54

@cakefaice
@cakefaice 8 лет назад
+February 1990 and up Jaguars (or Forduars in this case) aren't made to last in the slightest. Their parts are extremely expensive, the labor is intense thanks to the stupid engineering, and it's almost guaranteed that any modern jag you see with more than 120k has been through at least one engine and two transmissions.
@helivesonforever
@helivesonforever 8 лет назад
+February The parts are a lot more expensive than say a domestic car. For example, a water pump on my truck is 39 bucks. On this jaguar, it's 191 dollars plus a core charge. Compare the prices to your car on any parts store's website. Most stores won't have the part in stock, or even carry it at all.
@February54
@February54 8 лет назад
Cake Face They are not a Honda, but they are not an italian Fiat either. My favorites are X300 and X308 bodystyles. X300 had a few small problems (mostly electrical like clock not working or power seat switches not working), but their inline 6 was very reliable as was the ZF auto. Maintenance is cheap if you do the work yourself. X308 V8 did suffer from Nikasil liners being eaten away by sulfur in the fuel and plastic timing chain tensioners breaking because bad quality plastic was weakened by engine oil. These issues were fixed after September of 2000. Compared to pre 1992 Jaguars, Ford really fixed how these cats were built. It would be a fun project car and I believe a reliable daily if you are mechanically confident and competent.

My hood latch is a conventional paddle located at the center of the grill. It seized up from years of dirt build up from fine sand blowing into the engine compartment. The cable release still worked but the latch was a stubborn problem and barely moved. I gave it a good long couple of blasts of Gunk "Engine Degreaser". The latch let go. It couldn't fight me no more. I used an old tooth brush and scrubbed away as much dirt from the hood lock hinge, then gave my engine a good shampoo while I was at it. Satisfying. Coupla spritzes of WD40 on the lock and I was done.

My problem was the second stage of opening the hood on a 2013 Sonata. Release latched inside the car worked. Second stage is pulling up the lever under the front of the hood. I could not get it to release without using a screw driver to push the locking arm over enough to release the hood. Stuck a small screw driver under the release arm that would not go down and found a small stone was hidden under the release mechanism. Don't know how a stone could have gotten in there but at least it was a no cost fix.

If you don't want snagging when pulling cable through, you should tape from bottom to top when securing both cables together. That way the exposed ridges of tape job is facing down and won't try to unravel vertically when being pulled through, like in this video.

I need to do this repair so I'm very grateful. But I can't see how that wide grommet possibly pulled through that firewall hole.

That was great, thank you so much for posting! I have a Mercedes 380sl, but everything looks just like the Jaguar here - including the rotted-through cable!

Thanks for the video, and the useful tips! this will help with most cables! I changed all of the cables on our Yamaha Blaster, and it takes some careful threading of the cables.

Are you done with the project police interceptor series? I really enjoyed that one! If you are then you should consider doing another one. Maybe ESAR (Emergency Search and Rescue)? That might even be beneficial for all of the wannabe's out there too hahah. Anyway, keep up the awesome videos so close to 1 million!!

Sometimes a old worm soft radiator mount will sag down from softening up over the course of its lifetime putting unnecessary unneeded pressure the hood release cable causing it to stretch and kink and breaking the conduit to let moisture in causing rust to form. And where that car was wrecked at that certain place it would be a great idea to un bolt the mount and check it, that accident could of pinched the bracket part of the radiator mount causing the bolt to be out of whack, theres another video for you there Chris, great videos bud.

feeding the new cable through on the new cable is amazing! i hope this works for me along with replacing the hood release latch assembly (scirocco) :O

Tips: 1. Did not have to un-bolt the hood latch lever (cable end can simply be rotated off in place) and 2. Good time to lube the hood latches themselves (and even the bare parts of the new cable) with white lithium grease.

My dad had the X-type (car in the video) exact same thing happened except it came open with a fair bit of jiggling around! it was the mechanism that was stiff. I fixed it myself with a with of lubricating fluid (WD-40) so it is not always the cable. jags tend to give problems when they age XD
