What kind of player is that good with blocks, dribble, pass and accept passes easily with long hands, quick on the feet and shoots well. This is just insane. 🔥 🔥 💪
His timing & use of both hands when pursuing a block, is next level. His ability to strip a guard & get in/disrupt passing lanes is going to cause a major shift in offensive sets…you cannot put the ball in his vicinity. This is going to be an eye opener for most players except Jokic who has good base, footwork, passing & shooting. What he lacks in quickness/athleticism, he makes up in BBall IQ & skill. I need to see more, but Wemby is a major threat to the NBA status quo.
And people complain cause he doesn’t stand in the paint 😂 blocking threes like that is unheard of, keep him in the perimeter especially cause spurs have a tall team even without Wemby
In a league that is shooting more 3s than ever, his length and quickness on the defensive end has the potential to absolutely drown smaller teams like Golden State that rely on hitting 3s. You can see that Pop has instructed Wemby to contest shots and immediately leek out for the fast break rather than seek out a defensive board. This means if a Spurs player can secure the ball and pass it to Wemby downcourt that they will get an almost guaranteed basket. This also means Wenby's rebound numbers will be less than expected by the average fan that just sees a really tall guy. The way Pop is playing him I wouldn't be surprised if Wemby averages almost as many offensive boards as defensive ones.
Good analysis, as a new basketball fan I was wondering why Wemby wasn't using his height to contest rebounds and was always pretty clear from his own rim at times, i guess the idea is to have him downcourt to secure baskets.
He was already playing like that long before he met Pop (he's been playing pro ball since he was 16)! Excited to see his growth under Pop tho, he's gonna be phenomenal
Can you imagine in a few years time when he gains more mass, endurance and works on his 3 point accuracy? What kind of monstrosity would we be dealing with.
@@DW-op7lythey dont even need to bulk him up like Shaq, if they get him to tim duncan or giannis type of physique the league is in for a rude awakening
@@ImJyu Or just keep him looking like a taller Durant and let him keep doing what he's been doing, which is a wing defender and whatever he wants to do offensively.
Great hands, soft touch, smart, unselfish.. This kid is going to be amazing if he stays healthy. And I think he will! He seems very focused and committed to injury prevention workouts.
Victor Wembanyama could very well be the first Rookie to be the MVP of the league and Rookie of the year. He is being called the Alien 👽 because he can do multiple things that no other human can do. He will have a better rookie season than both Lebron James and Michael Jordan, putting up nearly identical numbers or better as they did their first year.. yet adding 3 or 4 blocks a game and 10 rebounds a game to those 20 + points and 6 to 8 assists per game. He will undoubtedly average a double double for sure with his rebounds.. and finish many triple doubles his first year. Not only all of that, but he will increase his teams win percentage dramatically, and that is going to be a huge weighing factor for him. None of the other All Stars like Jokic, Giannis, Lebron, Durant, or Curry will be able to do this. The fact that he is so humble and wise makes him a very likable dude and fan favorite for lots of votes! Big Vic for MVP, or at least Defensive Player of the Year.
Damn I remember watching lebrons rookie tapes and thinking this was certainly different than anything before him but this guy wembanyama….I don’t even know what to say, all I know is he’s going to be special.
This type of player is exactly what I use to create in the old NBA game when I just wanted to win every match easily. It was like a cheat code. He is the kind of player who can make some nba rules change.
Other than Wemby, can you name a player who has blocked the shots of two future Hall of Famers (Curry & Klay) and a former all-star (Wiggins) twice in 20 minutes of one game? Plus, nearly a point a minute throughout the preseason
7:19 & 11:38 these plays are just not fair. Making space jam plays and starting from the paint to quickly run and block a 3 point shot. If this young man can stay healthy the entire league is in a whole lot of trouble for years to come.
The craziest thing about him is that he makes a shot and he's the fastest guy back on defense!!!! He's running as fast as the guards in the league! INSANE!
New Nickname: The Big Brioche. This kid is remarkably gifted being over 7 feet tall, and he seems like he is just loving being out there. If he can stay healthy, the sky is the limit.
Based on his limited stats, this guy can average over 5 blocks and 25 points a game if he wants. In his first year, on 30 minutes a game. And those are conservative estimates. However.. he’s got to stay healthy.
Definitely has that Tim Duncan swag in him and if Tim Duncan is one of the greatest players of all time and this guy is better.. Yall better get ready for something because this boy spectacular!! I was Set on Bol Bol being my main Center playing like this and being very ignorant to Victor.. I must say I apologize Vic.. This dude is going to be the truth
If he keeps this up in the regular season and doesn’t get injured I can see the spurs earning themselves a play in spot, potentially playoffs if he keeps ascending.
01:06 - Should have been an offensive call against Wembanyama. Watch how he attacks the defender with his head crushing his jaw. Watch it in 0.25 slowmo.
I hope they don't run him down. He's young and eager to push it but he's very tall and lanky, his joints are at their peak now and need to be preserve from now on, as long as possible!
Wembys a hooper. God Gifted talent that has been advance trained at a very young age. Yes, we have to step back and watch this kid, he is once in a life time. But the greatest ever will require a "Lebron like" career with his God given talent.
I remember Jerry West saying some time that basketball could compete with soccer to be the biggest sport in the world. Here is the reason that this will never happen. Basketball is a sport for tall people.
