Like many a hobbyist, I have a lot of plans circulating in my head at any one time. With that in mind, I thought I'd ask you folks what gives you the inspiration for your next Middle-earth Strategy Battle Game projects. Do you draw from the books, the movies, a single character miniature you like or something else?

I have a chat about my ideas for Dwarves, Elves, the men of Laketown, Goblins, Orcs and even Ents. There are far too many projects going around in my head to count and I doubt I'll get around to half of them!

My first army was Moria because that’s my favorite bit from the movies. Seeing those goblins on the big screen in 2001 was fantastic and that has just stuck with me. My good army is Gondor because Gondor. All my favorite hero’s are there. Aragorn, Faramir, and Boromir.

Some awesome faction choices. I remember the Goblins coming down the pillars and thinking that was pretty awesome - I do like the Goblins, especially with the addition of a few good burly trolls! Also got a proper soft spot for Boromir (what a dude!) and Faramir gets overlooked so often so good to hear some love for him.

The Jon Hodgson and Free League art is a big influence. I keep wanting to kit bash stuff based on the pictures or create overgrown ruins

For sure - I love the art that was done for the roleplaying games. Some of the pieces in the newest edition of The One Ring are particular gorgeous, especially for the creatures

Honestly for me the scenarios have always been the inspiration for me. I’m currently trying to get through all the models needed for the large battle of pelennor fields found in the Gondor at war book. Probably an insane endeavor, but as I have to paint all the models for my group, 6 unique armies I figured was a great start.

I do love that - focusing on trying to get the miniatures together to create those big set pieces. One of these days I will have the miniatures to play out a proper Helm's Deep clash!

My armies are always based around thematic scenes. My main aims currently are tracking old metal sculpts of the Fellowship. I'm also considering using proxies from The Printing Goes Ever On to build a Noldorin Exiles/Rangers of the North force much like yours. So in summary, the few projects I am doing or have planned all focus around Eriador. :) (also the Shire is next on my to-collect list but assembling minis is not strong point, hence the 3d-prontable proxies)

That's very cool - I do like the idea of collecting to theme. I tend to find myself doing two sides which could fight each other. So, I collected Rohan then felt I had to do Uruk-Hai to go up against them etc

I've mentioned it before, but Lord of the Rings Online is a BIG inspiration for me. The way it takes you away from the published stories and shows you what else is going on in the world is wonderful. For rights reasons, a lot of what it does can't be translated into MESBG, but with a little fudging you can get close - like using Angmar Shades as Cargul.

Ah for sure - I did a Cargul using one of the Ringwraiths because I got inspired by LOTRO! There are some fun ideas and I think my schemes for a few characters have been based on the way they've done the game. Would be fun to do some cool character kitbashes based on the main characters that you meet along the way!

@@BecauseOfDragons I've spent the last few days checking out the latest expansion. While I haven't yet made it to Umbar, I have been looking at the Corsairs list and wondering.

I wanted to add a dragon to my Moria army, but I wanted it to be a beautiful model so I used the Age of Sigmar Stormdrake - But for the dragon not to flee, I needed a warhorn in an allied force, I went for Black Numenoreans from either Mordor or Umbar - But the model is outdated and unavailable so I used Age of Sigmar Black ark corsair with their scale capes to make a true "dragon cult" - But because I now had Black Numenoreans, I decided why not add some corsair for a full Pirates of Umbar army ? - But I didn't like the purple official paint scheme, so I look up historic pirates and found out about barbary pirate (mostly yellow outfits) - But if I was making an arabic pirate army, I obviously needed a Harad green ally contingent for the theme - But the new Suladan didn't really look Arabic so I went for the old model who looks VERY arabic - So, yeah ... I wanted to play a dragon in my Moria army, I now have an Umbar and Harad army
