I completely understand the purpose. What I need to know is why I try to generate them and they are empty. I want to know HOW to print/file/generate the January forms.

The video was informative, however if you are filing via US MAIL, do you have to hand write the 1099-NEC and send only COPY A to the IRS? I am asking because I have created the 1099-NEC s using a PDF filler and since I cannot 'print' or enter any information on the "RED" scannable copy, I am assuming that I MUST hand write the information on the actual "spindle edged" form. Please help clarify if you can.
Very well explained and now I am ready to file on my own. This was always prepared by our accountants but this year, as I have only 2 contractors to do, I believe I can file on my own using the QB program and same my boss the accountants expense.
We are in Houston TX, If we get the cost of services from Outside USA. In that case, should we need fill or submit this form 1099-NEC on behalf of a vendor outside the USA?
Hi Hector. Great video. Very helpful. On my 1099 filings screen in QuickBooks Online there is a Status Field. 2 of my 1099 submissions have a status of InAgency. Can you tell me what this means? Others say Accepted.
Hi I am a upholster and sold a rehab company $350 of red vinyle and charged $350 for labor all the work was done in or shop not at there place of business. Now they keep calling me to fill out a w9. We are like a auto shop not a subcontractor. Is this w9 something I need to fill out for them. I gave them a paid in full receipt? thank you for your help
Super helpful! Is there a due date to have your 1099-NEC given to your contractors? Is a w-9 form from your contractor a required form that needs to been sent in with your business taxes? Thanks for this content

I categorize subcontractors as Cost of Labor/ Cost of Goods Sold but it is my understanding, that in order for Quickbooks to generate 1099's subcontractors have to be assoiciated with an expense account. Do I have to re-categorize all the subcontractors?
I forgot to add one contractor when I e-filed through QBO. I'm trying to file just for that one contractor again through QBO but it brings me back the list of all the ones I already filed for. I'm un-selecting all except the one I missed. Is that correct? Should I press submit now? Would QBO sent the correction to IRS? Am I missing something?
Hello, Myriam! You can indeed unselect the others that have already been filed and only prepare for the 1 individual. However, the 1099-NEC is due to the IRS by January 31st, so this can no longer be e-filed through QuickBooks. This means that you can indeed prepare them in QuickBooks and print them on forms to mail them to the IRS, but they cannot be electronically filed. If you're needing to file the 1099-MISC, these are due by March 31st if filed electronically, or February 28th if you'll be filing by paper forms. Hi, If I pay a contractor partly from Credit card and partly from Bank. In this case, what amount i need to fill out in 1099? Should it be the payments from Bank only or should it be payments from Both methods??
Hi Sandeep. Payments to 1099 vendors made via credit card, debit card, or third-party system, such as PayPal, are excluded from the 1099-MISC and 1099-NEC calculations. This is because the financial institution reports these payments, so you don't have to. The amount you paid the contractor in cash or by check would be the amount reported. Here's more information: (quickbooks.intuit.com/learn-support/en-us/help-article/form-1099-nec/payments-excluded-1099-nec-1099-misc/L8bOWEWEs_US_en_US?uid=m0ee86yq). I hope this helps. -Karey
Hey Kerry! Thanks for reaching out about this. If you're on QuickBooks Online trying to run reports and are receiving a blank page, try to clear your cache and cookies for 'All Time' and refresh your screen. That might give your browser the kick it needs to work properly. You can also try to run a report within an Incognito Chrome browser. :) ^Jasmine
I am a bookkeeper do I need to provide W-9 form to my clients because they are paying more than $600 during the year for providing bookkeeping service to my clients.
Hello there, Darshani. The W-9 form is typically used and filled out by an independent contractor or freelancer who has been paid more than $600 for work provided to a/the business. With that being said, the freelancer or contractor will typically fill this out themselves. For more information about W-9's, please visit the IRS website right here: www.irs.gov/forms-pubs/about-form-w-9. ^Faith
If a contractor lost their 1099, is there a way to send him a duplicate? Quickbooks e-filed for me. Lat year they sent a PDF of all 1099's but not this year,
Thanks for reaching out here, Matt! You sure can. If you filed your 1099's through QuickBooks Online, you can access these again by: 1. Selecting Expenses and then Vendors 2. Select Prepare 1099s and then click 'Let’s get started' 3. Select Next until you come to 'Finish and Prepare 1099s' 4. Then click 'Finish and Prepare 1099s', then select 'E-File for me' NOTE: This will not charge you again. This will bring you to the login screen for the E-File Service so that you can view the 1099's you've already filed, save them as PDFs, and keep them for your record or send the contactors an additional copy. ^Faith

Great question! The recipient of a 1099 should always be the contractor who files income taxes. DBAs don't file taxes. Here are some great answers to more 1099 questions: quickbooks.intuit.com/learn-support/en-us/help-article/form-1099-nec/1099-need-file-one/L83INRc1B_US_en_US. Best of luck. -Karey

Hey there, Tom. If you received your 1099 form after you had already filed your taxes, then you may need to submit an amended return. For more information, you can visit: (www.irs.gov/instructions/i1099mec#:~:text=You%20can%20furnish%20each%20recipient,31%2C%20if%20filing%20electronically). With that being said, only a business owner with a Federal EIN that has paid you more than $600 between 1 or more jobs/contacts you performed for them will be required to provide you a 1099 at year end. Otherwise, it is up to the independent contractor to track their income and taxes. To find out more, please visit: (www.irs.gov/taxtopics/tc154). ^Faith
