In this video we talk to you about bass blocker, sound caps, caps, speaker chokes, or whatever you call them. We show what they are, when you might want to use one, and how to connect one. We then show you what it does to the sound going to the speaker.

Great video. I actually added a 199uf blocker on my 6.5 door speakers recently. Found that they still play a bit too much bass than i would like. Your crossover point capacitor selection chart is a real good piece of information to have in helping me select a crossover point a bit higher. Thanks for an excellent video with alot of useful information.

He has a pink noise generator to actually see the frequencies been cutoff, i just learned something by watching the display, that as you turn up the volume, the frequency drops,thereby adding a bit more bass to the speaker.I do agree with you a demo with music would have been nice,as long as he would put those speakers in an enclosure.

Okay this is perfect unfortunately I need the other way around. I have a 10 in sub box that goes in the house that is design for home theater system. The speaker is in excellent condition. But the amp that drives them died so I threw that out. I want to wire a house amp directly to this base been. But I don't want the highs or the mids going through just allowing base only. I know that there's something that I can put on the positive side to the speaker that will only allowed the base to pass through this speaker do you know what it's called? Do you know what I'm looking for? Thank you very much great video by the way

First off I love your videos and have learned so much! I have a question hopefully you can help me with. I've got a set of Infinity Kappa 1.4" edge driven soft dome tweeters that I want to replace my factory tweeters with (21 Ford Super Duty with the factory B&O audio). I believe the factory Ford tweeters have a base blocker so I'm assuming the tweeter circuit is full range. The Kappa tweeter is part of a component set (90CSX) and the crossover specification on the component set is 5kHz. I didn't want to use the Kappa crossover as it's a large round (hockey puck) that won't fit in my dash. The Kappa tweeters are 2.5 ohm and based on a 5 kHz low frequency cut off, I could use a simple non-polarity 12uF capacitor which would be 5305 kHz cut off. My primary question is I thought that the ideal cutoff range was somewhere between the resonant frequency (Fs) of the tweeter and the actual crossover frequency of 5kHz. I have been unable to find the resonant frequency specifications for my tweeter. Should I just target 5kHz or should I go lower. I feel that 5 kHz would be safe but I don't want to lose lower frequencies if the tweeter can handle it.

I’ve got a new car. I want to install a new sub and amp. I’m keeping the factory deck and speakers, however. I want to add bass blockers to my speakers so that they don’t put out the bass. Im going to have to use an in-line converter though to put RCAs to the amp. So being that my radio setting to adjust bass will afford for all speakers including my subs, if figured bass blockers would be the best way. Thoughts on this? bsl bl a cap will is a 6 db per octave slope. Basically it is a slight decrease in volume for each frequency below the crossover point.
@changooo1172
@changooo1172 6 лет назад
Does this work on the frequency or the power or watts going to the speaker. My 5.25 doors and 4x6 rear pillars on my pick up are my concern. I want to add a 10 in. sub and a 50 watt amp. I just noticed the bass is still pushing through the small speakers don't like the distortion on the smaller speakers. I wanna stop the bass not the power going to them. 25x4 watts stereo with sub pre amp outs.
@LionWithTheLamb
@LionWithTheLamb 6 лет назад
They passively reduce the power of the lower frequencies below the filter point of the capacitor. If you had a 4x6 speaker and used a capacitor for 200Hz then all of the frequencies below that would be attenuated / reduced by 6db per octave. The power of the stereo is not effected but there is a very small amount of loss with passive filtering. It's well worth it though as your smaller speakers will play louder and clearer. The lower frequencies will still come though a small amount but those frequencies will be greatly reduced.

@kwacz
@kwacz 3 года назад
a little late but maybe it will help someone else. I have a 2 channel crossfire amp that has a diagram for a three speaker setup. You run your sub bridged and simply hook up the left and right speakers normally. The subwoofer will get double the power of the speakers, but usually when you are running a sub you want to drive it harder. I have personally used this setup, although it is usually better to have 2 seperate amps, as long as you are not driving the amp close to the limit it will work fine. Remember it will run hot when pushing a lot of power so just keep cooling in mind and you'll be fine.

If you look at minute 2:19 he has a chart that tells you what capacitor to get according to the frequency that you want to separate / cut .You are asking for a 2 inch speaker, thats a mid range, so I would cut out any frequencies below 1,000 or 1,500 hertz. A capacitor between 30 and 35 farads is what I would use.

What's the difference between those capacitors "Bass blockers" and traditional crossovers?

Daniel Saucedo there is no difference. This is exactly the same as a 1st order crossover

@@noelbostrom5834 Noel, i had a question if i may,i have 6x9s in the back of my car,5.1/4 in the doors and in my dash i have provision for some 3.5s and a buddy gifted me some here recently and I'm going to install them,I'm running a small amp (400watts or so) just for a bit more clarity and bite to the music,i dont really go bassing around,should i still get some base blockers for those 3.5 i will be installing or would that be a waste of time? i really appreciate your time.
@noelbostrom5834
@noelbostrom5834 3 года назад
@@dntlss well yes, since 3,5 inch speakers or tweeters (dont no exactly what you got) is so small the xmax on the unit is quite small. If you don’t have a filter on that speaker you will probably burn it

1ruckus1 you wired your stereo to a 2 ohm load and it will eventually blow if you keep playing it like that

@jonyschn7906
@jonyschn7906 7 лет назад
Malcom Williams it uses thinner/thicker wire and more or less windings

Resistance of the coil, a fat ass resistance of 8ohms mean you need more juice to move that coil,

hey, do you think these will make my speakers sound better if I add them to a blown tweeter? right now the 3.5 tweeter starts to make a farting sound when there's bass, so will adding this make it sound better overall?
@FiveStarCarStereoInc
@FiveStarCarStereoInc 7 лет назад
Ahsan Khan see every tweeter needs some form of a bass blocker on it. By adding a cap it will stop the farting noise
@AhsanKhan-st8if

Thanks for the reply! yes it worked and made the overall sound better.. I think every tweeter should have a bass blocker indeed

Great video guys. But why not just buy some through-hole caps from Mouser or something? Why pay for the Stinger, Audiopipe, Pac, etc name?

firebirdude2 it is convenient. We order them with other products we get from them.

advance help. bass blocker are Capacitors at 4.7- 2.2. useful. But it have a Scrapping Sound. not complete block of bass at loud music.
@FiveStarCarStereoInc
@FiveStarCarStereoInc 7 лет назад
Rampakash Neutron those would be for tweeters. Caps are only a 6db slope, that means at really high volume you may get yuck sound. If they are paired with other speakers, like mids, you could try turning up their crossover.

MOPAR 300 the caps will be fine. Be careful at high volumes, test the sound of the speakers with the subs off. Make sure the sound is not breaking up or distorting.

I was told by adding a bass blocker to a non Amplified system it will burn out the outputs on the stereo because it changes the load and I was wondering if this is true

I disconnected the ANC from underneath the radio. Happy to say that the sub feedback is gone. Thanks guys. I guess cutting the ANC off from the radio controls by pressing 1,6,power and display didn't actually cut the ANC off.
