Becca Mitsos, Child Life Specialist for Lurie Children's Surgical Services, shares how child life specialists play a critical role as part of a child's healthcare team.
I would love to have this job. But the problem I have is the schooling part. I have a learning complication and I tried doing online school for early child education but my mom had to practically take the course for me. During my high school years I have been through so many internships in daycares and elementary schools that I enjoyed. I’ve also been a patient in my childhood in a hospital. I think through those experiences I could help children understand what it’s like to be in a hospital and what to expect during a procedure. Is there a way I could take the course with a little extra help?
Hola! Gracias for this video! It gives me hope. As a child, I endured multiple surgeries due to an eye condition without Child life intervention. As a result, I'm now on a journey of medical trauma recovery as an adult. As part of my journey, I'm writing a fictional book about Child life. I would love to interview Becca if she's up for it.
