Chords - when three or more notes are played together. - responsible for setting emotions in the music. Harmony - when two notes are played together. - The most common chords are triads Which contains three notes from the major scale - Root - 1st note , 3rd note and the 5th note. In music there are 4 types of triads. In this video major and minor chords are discussed. Major - sound brighter and happier Minor - sound darker and serious
I appreciate the video, but the title is a bit misleading. It says nothing about "how to write better chords and progressions". This is a topic on which I would love to see a video.
I don't understand how to know the chords quality like it says in the video. Like how do you know if the fourth chord in the key of A#, for example, is minor or major?
Can't seem to get my brain to understand this stuff. Don't understand music theory and I always let my ears guide me. I can get some chord progressions to work well but very simple ones. Nothing great or complex which would definitely give a better emotional feeling. Music theory is too complicated and scares me. Guess I'm not very smart LOL!
We all start out that way. A great way to learn about #music theory is kind of following the same learning patterns that you do with learning a new language--or even working out. Taking a brief moment of time out of your day to sit down and immerse yourself will gradually transition you from a novice to a pro.
@@LANDRmusic thanks for your reply. Do you know a good video I can watch not too complicated besides yours? Triads, half steps, whole steps, really confusing stuff. 😁
I play guitar as a hobby and never tried to understand from where chords and scales comes from as it sounds like a astrology to me. By watching your three videos here, it all makes sense now! You’re great teacher!
You paid way too much!!! You could have picked up any decent keyboard book at the guitar center for. For twenty or 30 bucks and learned not only this lesson, but much much more!!!. And, saved a ton of money to boot!!.
Wow, I've tried to understand this for years and you explained it wonderfully! Thank you for sharing and making a difference for those of us who are musically challenged. Science and math are easy for me but music goes right over my head. Thank you!!!
Came for the chords - stayed for the shirt. All joking aside, the video was well taught, simple, and easily understood. Thank you from an aspiring new musician.
This is, without a doubt the best music lesson I’ve ever watched. Peggy you explain so simply and effectively. Thanks for making the piano keyboard make sense
wooooow thank you! i have played the clarinet when I was young and now learning myself to write music on the (digital) piano and I am having sooooo much more fun. thanks for your explanation so we can just start making music and not overcomplicate things.
Thanks for this! Although i learned to read music at school and can play chords on a guitar i never really knew what a chord was, what made it major or minor. This is so helpful!
There's the major key and the minor key, each of which adds to the overall direction and mood to a song. To find out more about chords, see this blog article: blog.landr.com/learn-chords/
I don't like her explanation. I prefer the 3-2 for Major. And the 2-3 for Minor. Cause she says 4-3 but thats counting where you land and not where you start.
Every single chord is an exact replica of each other the only thing that's different apart from its given letter is its sound and pitch. Musical note progression is an infinite loop with 22 variations per chord 7 main chords in total its endless. For no one on earth could ever fully master it although many have tried but all fall short.
wish you could teach us how to work out what each note in a chord is just by listening to it ....... wondering does that just come from knowing all the chords ? .. or is there a way to hear a chord you never heard before and working out what each note is ? ...
A friend on my friends Mac laptop watching this video with two screens. You look awesome! Such a great teacher! Pleasure to watch! Really epic chords! Fun to jam with!! Loving the simplicity!! :)
I am weirdly understanding. I usually have blank brain when I try to learn anything about music, but this tutorial is weirdly making its way in my head.
I have a question.or a couple rather. as a beginning song writer producer who would watch all of your videos in which to learn chord progressions and the starting of a melody which in turn would hopefully stir up some creative emotional writing as I write from emotion usually lower keyed deeper emotion then gradually forging to a higher emotional standing ground, would I for one need basic keyboard skills, music reading basic knowledge, etc. or could I just watch all u have on chord progression then take that to my daws, and midi, currently learning with in home studio: MacBook 2017 version , mpk mini , interface , Aston microphone , and autotune. my goal is to write something slowly melodic that is freeform written from the soul. do I need a keyboard ? or is midi sufficient ? sucks as an artist you have to go to school or at least know u have the right tools. for some of us missing in strategy and vibe can be costly . Great explanation! I am a lil confused about scale and chords. Since a scale are notes that plaus well togheter, playing any 3 notes togheter randomly in the scale will make a chord? Thanks :)
It would be incredible if you guys film other video where you explain ideas of how to do a regular progression more interesting and things like secundary dominants etc
