The first dental curing light, the device with the control box, that required the fan. What Brand was the unit? THIS IS A WONDERFUL video! I remember the older ones. I remember the sound of the fan. I actually liked the sound of the fan. But It's now 2024, and things are much better, and much more compact!

Hi, that was a Optilux 401 made by Demetron/Kerr. It used a halogen bulb and the fan was needed to cool it off. Thank you very much for watching!

@@VeryNiceSmileDental Due to all of my medical conditions, life in and out of the hospital, and over 100 operations, I've always had a massive interest in the medical field, and study it in depth! I'm chronically ventilator dependent, have a trach, and a feeding tube, but I LOVE to learn. Back in 2006, When I got my expander put in, was the first time I had an Optilux 401 Dental Curing Light used on me. I had seen it in the orthodontist's office a few times before, and turned it on to hear the fan, and for a second, very very briefly, I looked at the blue Light shining on my hand. I'm already legally blind from birth, so I've always been protective of my eyes. But, when they told me how it worked, I was VERY curious, and grilled the Orthodontist, and his assistants with question after question about the use of the light, and the soft buzzing of the fan I found a pleasant sound. Well, finally it was time for the expander to be placed onto the top teeth. I lie there while they placed the device, and then the dental assistant said, "All right Peter. Now for the part you're looking forward to." She turned the device on, and began curing the material. I heard the buzzing, and was fascinated with the beeping sound when the light turned off. That meant that it was time to move to the next tooth. I couldn't feel the buzzing in my head per se, BUT, I could hear it in my ears and I could feel the buzz on my teeth. A few months later the expander was removed and the procedure done again, because it was loose. Well, I got to experience the curing light again, and I told them that I really thought the technique for light curing was interesting. Well after the expander was off, the Orthodontist let me play around with the curing light, and while I didn't look at it directly, I would activate it, let it go through the light cycle, and then reactivate it a few times and had a good time. He knew I was very thankful that the time with the expander had come to a close, and now it was just a few other steps before I could have my braces on a year later. I got my braces on a little bit less than a year later, but I remember being very excited about the blue curing light, and they all knew it. I had my braces on for a while, but when I got them off, I celebrated by playing with the dental curing light for a few minutes. The assistant said, "You're going to miss that thing aren't you?" I said, "YES I AM! BIG TIME! To this day, I play around with the one at my local dentist's office and while It's a much newer device and it's not the Optilux 401, I still think these devices are so cool, and important. I don't know exactly what interests me about it, but I find these very cool and interesting!

Hmm, I don't know. In addition to eye protection, I don't look at the light for the 10 seconds I have it on.
