@DudesWithWrenches the Dodge Warlock the best truck dodge ever though up come check out the story on the beginning of 2023 Dodge Warlock #dwwrenches #dodge
This, and the Little Red Express, was Dodge's way of attempting to keep muscle cars (trucks) alive for a little longer. Trucks had loopholes around emissions laws so it's pretty cool Dodge did what they did.
I was like 5 in '78 ,but a neighbor kids folks had a his and hers. He knew what was up at the time too, he purchased extra EVERYTHING that made up a little red, decals and wood and the pipes.
When I was in The Army, they were still using M880's. A one and a quarter ton 4x4 version of the W200 with 318 V8's. They were impressive eventhough they burned gas like it was free.
Oh yes we have one. It was used on an army base then was sold and used as a fire truck and now even still has holes in the roof from the light bar. It drank 10 gallons just going to town and back 😂
Had a 76 power wagon 360 in it put 1 ton overloads on the rear came with Dana 60 rear and 44 front wish I still had it, it was a monster my brother put triaxle log truck in the ditch there was a Chevrolet and Ford pickup sitting across the road when I hooked the power wagon up they were laughing but that end pretty quick when I threw it down in low range 2nd gear and drug the truck out
Warlock (1959) was an Old Western before that time, so that’s probably why they made this truck with the Saloon style pinstripes, and wood paneling on the bed 🙌🔥
Right ive always wanted a round headlight square body chevy but a truck like this with a 440 in it would be awesome and when ya hit the local mud hole there wouldnt be 10 trucks just like it there...
@MPerry-ox9qb Actually, it is, as the T/A was bragged up in 1980. Trucks racing wasn't really a thing back then since 99% of all trucks were farm truck. Just a step or 2 faster than a tractor.
@@purplepotato69I know right. 22 and I have a 1988 f250 diesel with manual and 4x4. It's really not that hard. Mine was a steal and deals are all over. People who "can't afford them" don't really want a classic car. They are CHEAP to build, own, and maintain.
@@bldontmatter5319 i got mine for cheap cause the dude needed it out of the trailer park, only issues it has besides the usual old car stuff is the paint job that they put on it. Bright green spray paint on everything so it’s a little difficult to clean up but other than that it’s in excellent shape
The 74 w200 I had as a teenager had that same grille. That thing was a tank. Club cab with the full box. Adventurer package and that truck was heavy duty for it's time especially had a worn out 318 so we put in a freshly built 360 with mid rise intake 650 4 barrel carb and a rv cam and then various other things. Glad I had the opportunity to own and drive an old vehicle for awhile before eventually upgrading to something more fuel efficient.
They even had the old Gemmer worm and roller steering box. I thought they used the low deck 361 truck engine with the high compression and closed chamber heads like the 67 440 and 383? Anyone know? Uncle Tony, do you know? The 361 in a 4x4 was a blast. Not high strung but the Thermoquad really worked on it.
I had two of them, both 2wd and black 360 trucks and both had the bench bucket seats too. I’ve seen a few red and green and one brown over the years. I passed up a green 44o truck a few years ago.
Yes sir, I had a 77 dodge street van, no windows on the sides, past the front doors (except mushroom windows)😅, and louvered back door windows, mine was black with a 318, we called it the war wagon! Great ride!
My Mopar nut cousin had a Little Red Express and a 440 4-speed 4WD Warlock when I was a kid in the '90s, both were pretty cool trucks. He had done motor work to both, and they both made GREAT power and were fast.
The Gremlin emblem always scared me. Under pressure from other school kids I once ripped that gremlin emblem off a car in the elementary school parking lot. They called it popping emblems. When I got it in my pocket and showed a few people I started to feel real bad. I felt that gremlin was more of a demon. It was haunting me. I went back 3 days later and pushed it back into the decklid holes from which I found it. That was just as scary as I was by myself and shouldn't be there during school hours in the teachers lot. I have no idea how long it stayed in it's original position without any real way to secure it but I do know for fact those little demons haunting me went away after putting back the emblem. After that I respected every single automotive emblem and script that existed. After that experience the only emblems "popped" were in the junkyard, where as a teen until years later, loved to go on Saturdays and see what I could find and spend $5 on. I have a rare set of 15" Olds rally wheels with a screw on cap which were 1973 only. That is just a few of the rare treasures I found in the bone yard. They got to know me and all I had to do was wave if by myself going in. I turned 54 today and am reminiscing on those times.
My dad had a 1990 Dodge ram single cab fleet side pickup. It was GOLD. A color dodge definitely doesn’t go with these days. I miss that truck. I wish I could find it and own it if it’s not in a yard somewhere…it had the ram on the hood and all that. Beautiful just beautiful.
Yes but that was a dealer package that was not offered through Chrysler basically all the dealer did was take a little red express and paint black and put midnight Xpress on it. I don’t remember what dealer was an extra start of that package though.
The leaning tower of power is actually pretty common for it nowadays, because of its laughable sub 150 HP in a heavy truck and dangerous slowness. But it's reliable and serviceable so it gets a pass. I've never heard it used pre-2000 so it's a new term
That’s freaking awesome. We have a 1978 warlock just like that one except it hasn’t been restored and it’s all original. You can see the original primer on the hood where the paint has worn away and I won’t say faded because the clearcoat still there.
OMG that is one of the most beautiful trucks I have ever seen kinda looks like a bandit edition Trans Am... Now that's some sure enuff beautiful eye candy
Worked at the local dodge dealer in 77 to 79. Unloaded these things off the truck. Then detailed them for the show room. Lots of problems with the paint and decals on these things. People also didn't take care of the wood panels on some these trucks. The little red express was very limited and the warlocks weren't that numerous also The power wagon was an even bigger flop It had stripes ,roll bar and grille guard from factory They then went to aftermarket conversion company's and suffered even more warranty claims lol
Man she is one sleek little adult toy though The older cars just seem to be gaining more and more appeal everyday simpler more reliable and little to no computers onboard to confuse you or shut you down
Soon after venturing into the trick truck crowd with the Dodge Dude the marketing wizards at Chrysler sensed the public was hungry for more. Enter the 1976 Dodge Warlock; a production show truck for urban cowboys that wanted to look even more like Burt Reynolds.
This type of marketing was fun at the time. You seem to forget: Demon, Twister, Super Bee, etc...WE ARE ALL CHILDREN AT HEART. I'd love to have one of these toys today!
Dodge Warlock were produced from 1976, as was this example, through 1979. The Canadian military used Dodge one-ton 4x4 trucks, with a 360, and 4-speed manual, and they would go practically ANYWHERE.
My grandpa had twin brothers farm hands back in the 70s and they had a Warlock like that then his brother bought a Llittle Red Wagon edition that had stacks with rain flaps on them. Id love to have either one. I had an 85 Long Wheelbase two tone silver and i did a home made blue wrench drop by heating the leafs about 6 inches from the ends and every third coil spring loop while my buddies jumped up and down on it. I had it so low I'd knock road reflectors off when changing lanes.
It was around that time Dungeons and Dragons and spellcasting became a popular idea, so makes sense to have a Warlock. Love the pinstripes on it...good color too!
Love the warlock! My '81 w250 is likely going to be a close as I will get. While modern luxury trucks are comfy, & great for towing & long trips I sure miss when trucks were trucks.
I like the round headlights that actually give off enough light to drive at dusk/dawn. Modern aerodynamic design has minimized function features such as the headlight 🤦🏻♀️
Dodge has always made some cool trucks and some kinda ridiculous ones such as the Macho package or prefomance version as far back as the early 60 with a 426 wedge
I brought home a 78 Dodge warlock 4 x 4 truck unrestored and 100% original, she has the 318 the 4 x 4 option bucket seats with Center council black paint job still has the original gold pinstriping package and gold faded but it was so worth the $3,000 I paid in 2010 for it
