Promoting Independence through Functional Life Skills Systems
As a system, we are responsible for preparing students for life in the real-world.
What that real-world will look like is different for every student.
In February 2016, the Individualized Program Plan (IPP) Review (www.ednet.ns.ca/docs/individu...) identified the continued value of designing customized and meaningful programming for individual students.
The Functional Life Skills System is an approach that connects each student’s individualized outcomes and promotes independence. These systems provide students with daily opportunities to discover independence as they move through the school system and prepare to be contributing members of society.
The following video was recently developed by our Program Planning Specialists as a resource to inform families, partners and staff of options available to support students with individualized programming for independent living and employment when they transition from school to community.
It will also be used to help teachers in Learning Centres throughout the HRSB set up their own system.
