- My name is Dr. Morris Collins. I'm a consultant head and neck surgeon and since 2003 I've been practicing hair transplant surgery exclusively. Our clinic is purpose build for the treatment of patients suffering from hair loss. Hair transplant surgery is by definition a surgical procedure. I'm a surgeon and if I was going to have an operation, such as a hernia or my gall bladder removed, I'd want a properly qualified surgeon to do it. Hair transplantation is no different. Our team consists of dermatologists, plastic surgeons, a general surgeon, qualified nurses, very experienced technicians and a very, very dedicated support team. Collectively, we are the most highly skilled team of hair transplant specialists anywhere in the world. One of the problems facing a patient who wants to get advice on their hair loss is finding a reputable, credible clinic. It was very important to me to have the clinic accredited by Joint Commission International. This is recognized as the gold standard in health care globally, and we are the only hair loss clinic in the world with this accreditation. Patients suffering from hair loss no longer have to deal with commercial clinics, located in the back streets or basements of Dublin, London and New York. To begin with, we go through all of the various options that are available to the patients, so that they can then make a properly informed decision as to how best to deal with their hair loss concerns. It is important that this consultation is carried out by a qualified doctor. Sales people should never be involved in discussing a surgical procedure. In the last 15 years, hair transplantation has moved on leaps and bounds. The old plug grafts that Elton John or Frank Sinatra had are no longer acceptable, and we now transplant the hair grafts individually, and this results in a very natural appearance. The key element of a hair transplant is the design and planning. We have to meet the patient's current needs, but more importantly we have to plan carefully for their future. This is an element that many clinics overlook, and this lack of planning can easily result in hair transplants that look unnatural in years to come. The vast majority of hair transplant clinics around the world do not do any form of presurgical planning. The patient basically arrives into the clinic on the day. They're asked where would they like the hairline, a line is drawn, and that's it. And in my experience a lot of them would end up with hairlines that are less than perfect. In our clinic we design the hairline for their particular hair loss concerns, and we work very carefully with the patient so at the end of the day, we achieve an individual hairline that is unique to that patient. When I meet patients afterwards the comments I hear are, my self esteem is much better. I'm feeling more confident. I have a sense of contentment. I no longer think about my hair. I've practiced surgery now for 40 years, and I've done many disciplines. But what really caught me by surprise was hair transplantation. Obviously, technically you have to do a really good transplant to make it look natural, as if nature left it there. But the change in the patient's personality, their self esteem, their self confidence, they constantly remind me of contentment, peace of mind, and to me the biggest compliment our team can get here is I never think about my hair anymore. I find that we truly do change people's lives for the better.
