Me, as a musician who has been performing for almost fifty years, I can appreciate your video, at least, 80% more than your normal viewers. I have played 17 different real instruments (sax, trombone, trumpet, accordion, drums, ..........) most of which I wouldn't dare touch again because my whole heart and soul is with the piano, now. I travel worldwide and pretend I do not have time or the metal prowess to utilize the little tech or computer savvy express. Man, I do thank you for breaking it down to kindergarten level for dudes like me. I am considering investing in the lowest one, the Novation Launchpad (you said $100 to $150. I play the piano and have worked for, at least, electronic drum machines and I went out on a limb with a new system called the Beat Buddy. For now, I spend time with my head UNDER the piano adjusting the 'BB' and I am really hoping the launch thingy will let people know I am not nipping on a bottle or sniffing strange things hidden under the piano on their nickel. >> Respectfully.

I thought you just had to tap random buttons and it plays the note or something.

It really agrivates me when someone gets a launchpad and gets pissed because it won't make music on its own. It's a CONTROLLER, not an INSTRUMENT.

How much is a beginner's Launchpad?

I watched this with my Son as he wanted to show me what he is about to do on his Raspberry Pi. I have to say your video explains the basics well and you seem like a good kid and a good ambassador for what the young generation.Keep up the good work!

This is super helpful, thanks for making this. As an outsider wandering into random videos, it's pretty confusing everything that's going on. My major confusion was how much effort is needed to make the lights do pretty stuff. It sounds like it's non-trivial, which is unfortunate, because I'm a lazy lazy guy. Still tossing around the idea of picking up one of these though. My current controller only has 9 tiny little buttons and no lights (nice sliders though).

Thank you for putting this video together. Basically a launchpad is REALLY easy to play, but to make an entertaining and well put together mix on one, it take a lot of practise and skill with the programming! Anyone can use one, even with very little musical skill, doesn't mean it will be impressive to watch though. Good mixes take time and effort.

I'm really really wanting to start doing this I just have no idea where to start. I'm about to get a MacBook Pro so idk what kind of launchpad to get and then how do I download everything I'm just super confused and I haven't found anything on RU-vid helping someone to start sooooooo yeah

I've seen people basically play these things like differently laid-out pianos. Good for people with smaller hands, as sometimes chords can require a big stretch.

Now that I understand what a launchpad is and what it does, I still don't see the point of it? Unlike conventional instruments there doesn't seem to be any room for expression, I mean after hours of sampling and memorizing patterns all you are doing is playing the exact same song in the exact same way it was before you chopped it up... where is the musicality in that?

I'm really itching to get myself a keyboard, or launchpad, and play around with one of those old-school tube vocoders. Thanks for sharing this!

Thanks you answered some questions for me as far as how to use a launchpad. I've played guitar & bass in punk bands for years. I'm into EDM and using keyboard and drum machine. I'm interested in getting a launchpad. I understand totally how you talked about the pages, just like my drum machine if u change the drum kit u get different sounds... anybody talking trash about you they just don't understand the new music tech like I was once ignorant to.

I thought launchpads were pretty cool to begin with, but these answers to the basic questions made them pretty baller, and impresses me that people are able to memorize what each blank button does, i know i wouldn't be able to do it cause my memory is pretty bad if i'm bein honest.

Im looking to come up with some original music and i have been looking into getting a launch pad. if you could please give me any advise on what to buy, what not to buy or any important info that would be great. Im tired of using garage band and would like to do something different.
