Unfortunately linguistics is one the most underrated and somehow neglected fields on the Internet and what you do Sir is highly valuable to me and other linguistics students who are trying to make a progress in this field. Hope to see more updates in this channel. With lots of love from Iran 💜🌏🌹

Not anymore, actually it's high in demand nowadays! Many IT and AI companies are recruiting linguists for linguistic data generation, there are even some new master programs about linguistic data analysis for both who want to study linguistics from scratch and those who already did!

100% loved this, especially the pros and cons. Thank you so much for making this video before I make that step. My goal is to do exactly what you do and work at a university. but yes there is risk in a small field.

Thank you for this video! Great insight into not only linguistics specific career path, but also into the academic field as a whole. Very helpful as I'm choosing between industry and academia.

You are very moderate when talking about yourself! Thanks for sharing your precious knowledge on linguistics. I am doing Master in Cross-cultural German and Chinese Studies. Would be lucky to find a kind supervisor like you for my PhD after graduation. I have great interest in Semitics, critical discourse analysis, CDA, sociolinguistics, Neurolinguistics (need to narrow my interest fields first)

In fact the linguist approach rather than the mathmatical approach is how I solve programming tasks. Which seems to confuse a lot of math heads.

Hi Professor! So nice to see you back posting! I'm currently a High School student and is very interested to learn and excel in Linguistic. Do you have any book recommendation for me to read as a basic knowledge in Linguistic? One more thing, I'm still struggling to explain to people what examples does a degree in Linguistic do. I appreciate it if you could explain shortly what Linguistic degree could do. Thanks!!

Hi, I can tell you out of my own experience that starting with reading something like George Yule - The Study of Language can provide you with a solid insight of various fields and branches of linguistics that you might be interested in and which you could potentially pursue at university. Yule provides a really solid take on linguistic issues, and that book might as well sort of tell you whether you want to study linguistics or not. Good luck.

Thank for such an informative video! Could you please also explain how a new bachelor’s program or faculty that is created by a university will be accredited and how long does it take?

"What is a linguist doing all day"? Well, if they are working at a university, they would probably be making efforts to get their Ph.D. That's what they are there for, basically.

Good suggestion, I'll think about that! So far, a lot of my content is designed with visual support in mind, but I might branch out to audio-only.

Martin what different lines of work can a linguist go down? I did my bachelors and have struggled to find a career what advice would you have? Also Thankyou for your videos, they greatly helped me pass with a 2:2 ☺️👍🏻
@MartinHilpert
@MartinHilpert 2 года назад
Congratulations! Concerning career advice, it happens to many humanities students that they think "but I have no skills". As a consequence, they shy away from applying for certain jobs. It's important to realize that your bachelors actually gave you lots of practical skills, from communication to project management to leadership and analyzing complex problems, and of course the ability to learn new things. My one piece of advice would be to state confidently what you can do and what you are ready to learn. Employers will reward a dynamic "can do" attitude.

And why the second word was found use reverse word of the first.? If the word was absorbed from another language, why they keep it.?
